    I had the opposite of entitled honeymooners on my flight to Alaska. I had the middle seat with a husband and wife on either side of me . When they found out it was my first time flying to Alaska the woman gave me her window seat, because she said I had to see how beautiful Alaska was. It was very very nice of her.

    You can get buttons at Disney World to wear that tell people it's your honeymoon (or birthday, anniversary, graduation, etc) and then cast members and characters will congratulate you. They might also bring you a free dessert or something at a restaurant, but it's not a definite thing, just a 'we're feeling nice' thing. If you don't wear the button or tell anyone they're not going to know, and if you act entitled they're probably not going to get you free stuff

      Exactly what I popped down here to say--there are ways to easily signal what your special event is, and (when mixed with nice behavior) can increase the chances for a little extra perk here or there, but never guarantees it. But, if they're the type to see their friends happy and publicly sulk about it, I highly doubt they inspired many cast members to sprinkle extra pixie dust.

      I remember when a diabetic conference went to Disney. We tried really hard to be as normal as possible. Meals got weird, since we had to keep asking for carb counts, and some people would give us odd looks or say “You’re to young to care/be on a diet.”
      One of the cafe workers, though, she was great! I awkwardly asked for the carb count on a sandwich, and she promptly responded with “Let me go check. Or would you like our diabetic-friendly meal?” Apparently, only one place was aware that this conference had a lot of kids! I was only 10 at the time. And I was one of the ‘older kids’

    I honeymooned in Disney World and we were escorted to the front of the line at Test Track by an employee who noticed our “Just Married” buttons. We were also given free or upgraded desserts and special signed cards from characters. When we went with our son more recently, he got a free ice cream for wearing a “first visit” button. Both the line cut and free ice cream were very near park opening time (when it is less crowded and chaotic). I feel like they have a quota and try to get it done at the start of the day.

    • @ramsfan515
      @ramsfan515 Před rokem +15

      They do not have a quota, but Cast Members are empowered to do special acts for guests to enhance the "magical" Disney experience. Cast Members also follow Walt's "no child crying" policy that allows them to do special things to keep children happy. Just Married, Birthday, Anniversary and First Time button wearers get special treatment simply because that was what Walt wanted. Disney backed off of a lot of these services under Bob Chapek, but Iger seems to be slowing reintroducing them.

Like...if there weren't so many boundaries they wouldn't feel the need to be touchy in inappropriate places. 🙄 The strictness, particularly if its religious or indoctrination and that turn into an adult with those exact values, it's very common that the actual wedding night is disappointing. The sex is bad. Like...when we were having bad sex in college and know what were doing and what we like now, older. If your wedding night was the first time for both of you and you spent your entire life avoiding the sex, that becomes...well...interesting.

    The "Bahamas were closed" story reminded me of when I took a train to Edinburgh, Scotland. We didn't have much time, and got in Saturday midday. Apparently ALL of Scotland is Presbyterian or something, because the entire city was closed on Sunday. No groceries, tourist shops, restaurants, nada. My friend and I were happy to find a tour bus that was available, toured the area for a couple of hours and then went back to our hotel to pack and get back to London on Monday. We thought it was pretty funny, actually. Nobody had mentioned how SERIOUS the Scottish are about their Sabbath, but we chalked it up to a learning experience, and I still look back at that weekend and laugh. If you have the buttons on (birthday, first visit, just married, happily ever after) we see them and congratulate you but cast members can get written up for any kind of perks, sometimes we can do a magical moment but it depends on the day, who the coordinator and leaders are. Oh and before people get upset, the “perks” might be an immediate fast pass (now lightning lane), a Mickey bar or churro, maybe a little extra attention from characters. Don’t expect things from the cast members, a HUGE number of them are 25yrs old or less (CPs and ICPs) they’re overworked and underpaid… 10-12hrs shifts for minimum wage. There are a huge amount of cast members who sleep in their cars in the cast member parking lots… show them kindness and compassion, I can guarantee that they are doing everything possible to make your trip magical, but you’re not the only ones there.

I thought it was sweet that some cast members went out of their way to congratulate us in small ways but in no way did I expect it or feel like I was getting “special treatment” all the time. Disney cast members do not have to do that for people although usually they do seem to go above and beyond. The Bridezilla phase usually begins at engagement and lasts at least through the honeymoon. If they're horrible before or after, they're just horrible people. Others know it's not acceptable and that it will loose them friends/influence, so they're usually able to mask well in public. The stress/entitlement mix makes them drop the mask but, later, they put it back on. Still horrible people underneath though. I don't think every woman who has nerves, cries once, or snaps ONCE at someone during the wedding period is a bridezilla, especially if they (eventually) apologize.

    • @RavenSutcliffe
      @RavenSutcliffe Před rokem +19

      There's actually a video by Charlotte about that! Some were just horrid and got divorced etc and a few were in fact just very stressed and weren't like that before or after. I think the video is called "Bridezillas become Wifezillas" or something like that. I remember one in particular that basically turned into a different person during the wedding planning because due to a hard upbringing and family issues she'd never had a proper celebration; her wedding was super important to her and the stress of making it perfect turned her Bridezilla. Now she's very oriented into raising their kids so they don't suffer like her and apparently channels her planning "thing" into making sure the family has really nice outings and lovely memories. The kids and hubby love her. There were other positive stories in the video but that one was my favorite. ^^
      I have OCD so I'd probably go a little bridezilla during the planning phase due to sheer anxiety, but I understand my compulsions can be uncomfortable for other people so I try to compensate. It just makes life easier, so you don't have to deal with Karen's as much or at the very least can say you told them so.

      Yeah, I found it weird that the travel agency didn't warn about the holiday cause they must have known. It might not made a difference anyway cause the bride probably wouldn't have changed the wedding date but it would have avoid problems.

    Disney asks you multiple times upon booking, and any communications you have with them if you're celebrating anything special. You can literally make up anything you want. When you get there they will give you pins to wear, some for honeymooners, some for anniversaries, birthdays and "I'm celebrating ____" and they write it in with Sharpie. Given how many of each thing they see daily you won't get a huge reaction, but most cast members will say "Happy birthday", "congrats" etc when providing you with various services, getting on rides, wait staff congratulating etc. It is unlikely that you wouldn't get any mention during a reasonably long trip, but it would be mentioned. As for big things, you roll the dice. Most of the time, as highlighted in this video, you're not going to get massively special treatment because you're honeymooners. Going by the number of people in "bride ears" I have seen in any given trip you are not a small portion of the general crowd and they can't treat all of any group super special (charities being an exception).

    @logancotter6766 Před rokem +3

    I honeymooned at Disney and go often in general and if you get the free celebration pins, cast members will often say congratulations which is super nice. We also got free desserts or champagne at some of the nicer restaurants we went too, but you have to tell them either when your there or when you make the reservation. Disney Magical Moments though are definitely at the discretion of the cast member and not required, so if you’re not nice they’re probably not going to do it. Also, since Disney can be expensive, many people wait to go until their special occasion. There are so many people there celebrating something that it’s probably impossible to always do something for everyone

They were kind enough to give us free desserts, treats and made sure to say congratulations. It really made us feel special. I had a sinus infection but other than that, the honeymoon was amazing. 😊

    I spent my wedding night with my brother and sister in-law. Let me explain. My brother and SIL went to get ice for hotel room. They forgot their key card and my niece was in their room but she was passed out from drinking at the reception. Went to other rooms on the floor that had my relatives, everyone is passed out cold (fricking awesome reception). I should also tell you that my brother was only in his underwear and my SIL in her night gown. Finally they got to our door. My husband and I really weren't happy to see them. They explained the situation. My husband got dressed and went to the front desk to get another key card for them. We still l laugh about it to this day.

This was my first time flying and I didn't know that you could purchase seats by each other. After everyone was in I said ' I'll give $150 to anyone who will switch seats with me and my little.' I had five offers immeuand everyone was so nice.

    Our honeymoon was 2 weeks at Walt Disney World 💜 the only bad things to happen was sunburns (pale canadian, we don't tan, we ROAST) and someone taking a full on dump on the bridge into Tomorrowland. Not even a little kid or emergency situation. Just some derranged individual pulling off his shorts and full on pop-a-squat right in the middle of the bridge.
    To be fair though, the great 2018 dump on the bridge into Tomorrowland baking in the florida sun was great foreshadowing for how 2020 went :P

    I treated my parents to a Disneyland trip for their anniversary, I also went as did my brother and his new fiancé. We got little pins for my parents saying it was their anniversary but that was about it. Well nothing over the top happened, but every time we stopped at one of those little photography stands the photographers would make sure to post my parents in some really cute poses - kissing and holding hands, looking cute etc - they always took a couple extra minutes with my parents and got us some great pictures. We weren’t really expecting special treatment, and we thought it was super sweet and were very grateful

    My husband and I went to South Lake Tahoe for a ski honeymoon in March (1982). Yup . The year they had an avalanche and we couldn’t get out. We stayed at a little cabin by the water. It was very cozy. The owner told us “ there is a back up supply closet and the key is on the top of the door frame.”
    He had food , water, wine and firewood.”
    Got an extra week.

    At every Disney park you can get buttons for whatever you're celebrating, Birthday, Honeymoon, Anniversary, 1st Visit, etc. I spent two weeks at Walt Disney World for 2 weeks for my honeymoon. When you wear the buttons, pretty much every employee will acknowledge with a "Congratulations", "Happy Birthday ", etc. Not necessary, but my Hubby and I got a lot of special treatment and freebies that made the trip more magical. We also wore the bride and groom ears (veil and top hat) and got picked at shows also. Just stay in the spirit and have fun.

    Honeymoon horror story here. We drove off I was thinking we would be getting at least a hotel room, no we went to his dads place which was in a trailer park, dog shit and piss everywhere and roach and flea infested…. I privately asked my then husband if we could get a hotel room that night, his family later found out why and got mad at me.

    Speaking of Siesta. Our family went to Italy for the first time (ages agol). We're out on the town, looking at stores, when suddenly we get rushed out of the store we were in. They were holding siesta, first time we ever heard of it. We were definitely surprised, but took it in stride, asked if that happened every day and at what hours. On future visits we had siesta planned in and loved seeing other tourists surprised by locked shops, lol.

    HAHAHA my husband and I were separated on multiple flights to and from our honeymoon. Was it slightly annoying? Yes. Did we complain and cause scenes? Absolutely not. We just dealt with it, watched the same movie, or picked each others seats to play games against (they had screens where you could pick certain seat numbers to play games with). It was actually fun and helped distract us from the long exhausting flight!

    My ex and I honeymooned in Ixtapa Mexico in '88. We were given a hotel room tucked in the bottom corner of the beachside resort with an extremely small room and twin beds. I was like a housekeeping room. Lol! Took a while to convince them we were honeymooners. I was not the excitable, demonstrative type. We eventually were given an appropriate "honeymoon" room. We met 3 other couples who were married on the same day as us, and were even from the same province/country. We all had the same flight home. One couple was really boisterous, showy, vivacious and had bought all the traditional touristy keepsakes... like sombreros and piñatas. At customs they were let right through.... whereas my ex and had our bags inspected and given the 3rd degree. We had purchased things like jewellery, hand carved marble decor, and pure vanilla. Go figure! And yes... the twin beds should have been an indication as to where this relationship was headed... lol!!

    Eloped 10-10-2020. Since everything was closed or limited we didn't get to have a wedding or a reception so we eloped with a photographer who was a long time friend of mine. Had a great day! On our 1 year anniversary we booked a 4 day disneyland vacation and ( being a former Cast Member) I knew how to make our stay the best. We stayed at the disneyland hotel, got custom buttons, wore mr & mrs stuff and all the Cast Members made our anniversary vacation a great time. You have to put in the thought and work to make your celebration good. No one will do anything special for you unless you let them know. 🤷🏽‍♀️
