    As a long time cruiser I really appreciate a well presented and professional tour of a new ship. This is the best one I have seen of the Rotterdam! We are looking forward to our first cruise in three years and it will be on the Rotterdam! Thank you, Peter for your creative presentation!

      She is one of my favorite ships. I was fortunate to sail in her five times, including her final voyage for HAL and then another cruise when she was REMBRANDT. I'm so happy she has been saved. Can't wait to go back to Rotterdam to see her again. They have done a great job in preserving her.

    I am considering a short trip on Cunard's Queen Anne, which I understand is very similar to the Rotterdam and other Pinnacle ships. Looking at the video I am really missing nice, spacious outside areas to walk around the ship. That obstructed promenade on Deck 3 looks more like a service corridor. Guess I am too old school for those modern ships, despite all the bells and whistles ;-) .

    • @midshipcinema
      @midshipcinema  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I haven't been included in the latest visits, so can't report on QA with much authority but I will say that the ROTTERDAM's obscured promenades are disappointing. Otherwise, I think she is a nice ship for her size. I do hope to visit QA this year and provide some insights on her design. The VOLENDAM has nice proms if you want to go HAL and the Viking Ocean ships have them, as well, although not lined in teak.

    Thank you Peter! I am sailing on this ship April 3rd to the eastern Caribbean and can't wait. Your video well put together with beautiful photography and interesting and informative narration. I too am an avid fan of the older cruise ships. I have been many times on the Olympia/Regal Empress and also once on the Gripsholm/Regent Sea, Zion/Dolphin, S.S. France/Norway, Vaso de Gama/Seawind Crown, Federico C/SeaBreeze, Transvaal Castle/Island Breeze, and many of Carnivals original older ocean liners. I never was able to try the Rotterdam from the 50's, but it is great to know I can still visit her! Mike🚢🚢

    great video,Peter. I sailed on Rotterdam 6. They really ruined it by turning the Sea View Pool into a wading pool and making those "lanai" cabins that opened on to the deck, so others had limited lounge chair space. Partner and I sailed to Hawaii on Rotter Dam 5--- down my favorite ship. QE 2 was stunning on the outside but a horrible mishmash of Carnaby Street inside---but, still glad I did a trans-atlantic on it. Hope you do a video on Queen Mary 2---loved that ship, never thought another liner would be built after QE 2---many "family" members couples on that ship.

    I totally agree that the slot machines located by the Ocean Bar (across from Rudi's) lack class. People go to these venues to get away from the noise and the crowds. You are paying extra to dine at this wonderful restaurant, especially for its ambiance, and you have to put up with these machines? Which person designed or planned this ought to have their head examined, unless they were in the finance department looking to increase revenue for HAL during 1.5 years it was out of commission due to the pandemic.

    • @midshipcinema
      @midshipcinema  Před 2 lety +3

      Thank you for watching and commenting. Putting the boats on the deck level saves more unobstructed space above for balconies. At least this ship has a fully encircling promenade, which is better than what most ships are offering these days

  • @trainattendant5810

    I sailed aboard sister ship Koningsdam during her inaugural season. I boarded with an open mind & tried to like her, but it wasn't a match for me on so many levels. Pinnacle class ships don't have that sumptuous feel of Statendam or Rotterdam class. Zaandam will always be my favorite HAL ship. As a three star Mariner, it seems to me that HAL is becoming a shadow of it's former self. I've jumped ship so to speak to Viking Ocean. Those slot machines contaminating the Ocean Bar are unforgivable. Perhaps one of the worst execution of lounge space ever.

    • @midshipcinema
      @midshipcinema  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you for posting. I understand how you feel about the new versus recent HAL ships. I definitely prefer the size and wraparound proms of the STATENDAM and ROTTERDAM 6 class but this ship does have some very nice spaces. I have been told the slot machines were there for a charter, so hopefully they have been carted away now.

      The outside cabanas are called The Retreat. You can rent them by the day or by the length of the cruise. They include a table and chairs to eat inside, two lounges, robes, and slippers as well as Avian water spray misters. You are provided bottles of cold water in a top hat along with a basket of fresh fruit daily, and are alsoserved chilled grapes, choc covered strawberries and champagne in the afternoon (between 2-3). There is a mini continental breakfast (pastries, coffee, juices, water) served there in the morning (I have also seen champagne served there in the morning as well in case you want to make a mimosa) and the wait staff will also bring you lunch (you have menus to view and choose from). There is an outside eating area with tables and chairs, as well as lounge chairs outside if you want to catch some of the sun's rays. They are usually a quiet space (those not having a cabana are usually not permitted entry to this area) if you want to get away from the crowds and noise.
