I have a Panama Canal cruise on Rotterdam Jan 24 & found your vlog handy - especially liked the diagram w/red maple leaf which helped show where you filmed.
I have retired long time ago, but I did work in the early 60's on the SS ROTTERDAM, sailing from Rotterdam to New York and The Caribbean islands. I enjoy your tour of the latest ROTTERDAM, what a difference with the past ships ROTTERDAM, you have done a fantastic job with your tour with the latest ROTTERDAM, ******!!!!!!!!!!!!.
@@CruisingCanucks I did work on the fifth SS ROTTERDAM, for its design in the early years it was very controversial because of the 2 tall funnels in the back of the ship. It was very modern for that time, I still have fond memories & working for Holland America Line. I have a few picture books about HAL & a photobook of the ROTTERDAM, it, is called "Grande Dame: Holland America Line and the ROTTERDAM by Stephen M Payne.
Wow - that's amazing. We googled it and saw what you were talking about - that odd configuration of stacks. That's amazing that it was the fifth - so they've had three different ships named Rotterdam over the last 60 years. That looks like a book that all die-hard HAL cruisers would appreciate and enjoy!
@@CruisingCanucks Did you know that the ROTTERDAM (5) ship is made to a hotel a few years ago and it still going strong as a 4 star hotel, next year I will go to the city of Rotterdam and board the old ship to have lunch there, would it be fun, bring back memories for me.

The Rotterdam had a few upgrades from the Koningsdam - so we are sure you’ll enjoy her. Yes that little buffet is a well kept secret in that back corner.
Love that you have the deck plan there with your flag on. Paul said it is like the Marauders map from Harry Potter! That is a unique library, and we know we would spend a lot of time in the Music Walk, we would love these live music venues. Wow what a stunning dining room too. Great tour liked the way you methodically worked your way through the ship, including the deck plans. Thanks for showing us around, looks a fabulous ship!

You have highlighted that there are many hidden gems and special spaces aboard a Holland America cruise-ship.....This newest ship is a marvel of decor, of dining options, and numerous spaces that one could easily miss, pass by, or not even know exist on the ship. Among other benefits, it means that there are always quiet and uncrowded places to enjoy throughout the ship.

Hi Jill and Jerry. I have been watching your VLOGS about Holland America Rotterdam. We just returned from the 10 day Southern Seafarer cruise just a few days ago. I wanted to let you know that since you posted this tour of the Rotterdam, there already have been some subtle changes on the ship. For example, there now seems to be drink service in the World Stage. We saw this midway through our cruise. The problem to this is the fact that passengers leave empty glasses and cans under their seats after leaving. Not very nice. We did agree with your assessment that the theater is under utilized. There were nights where there was not a show there. On our cruise, Lincoln Center stage performers did not show up until day 4 of our 10 day cruise. Food was excellent. When you had mentioned that you were unable to secure the same waiter each time that you came into the main dining room, we were able to do so for the last four times we ate there. We received four complimentary dinners for our trip. We ate twice in the Pinnacle Grill and once in both Tamarind and Canaletto. The overall experience was great. It’s a beautiful ship and much like her sister ship the Nieuw Statendam. If it wasn’t for the library and Half Moon Bar they’d nearly be almost the same.

@@CruisingCanucks Thank you for your feed back in regard to the Rotterdam. I've heard that many people love Holland America Cruise Line for a more up scale cruise that's geared for adults. It will be hard for me to switch from NCL, but I really need to try another cruise line, such as Holland America's Rotterdam.
Without question one of the most well done ship walk throughs I've ever seen! Makes me definitely want to sail on this ship. We have been mostly Carnival cruisers and love it, but this makes me want to try something a little more upscale. Thank you!

Nice Vlog Jerry! The one item we love on this class of ship is the breakfast sandwiches you can order in the Deli. Stick with this vlog style as it is very enjoyable.

Amazing tour, thank you!!! Most comprehensive one for this ship I’ve seen. We’ll be taking her on the Trans Atlantic cruise in October, Rotterdam (!) to Ft. Lauderdale. Can’t wait!! I think I’ll spend much time stumbling/staggering around the Music Walk, when not at the adult pool or Retreat. I’m hoping to eat at Tamarind also.

Great video Jerry! I'm on this ship for the first time in August (to Alaska). I just started including screen shots, including a deck plan, from the cruise line app in my videos. I think it really enhances the content, especially your version with the maple leaf!
For some reason I thought the Rotterdam was over in Europe this summer- that's great that its available for Alaska! We may finally do Alaska next summer - and on a HAL ship. Hopefully we can confirm in the weeks ahead!

Let us know how the Alaska cruise is for weather - we are trying to determine if we would book a Retreat Cabana or if it’s too chilly. However, it does take a lot to make us chilly. ❄️🇨🇦

Thanks for watching. The make-up mirror does have magnification. The make-up table has a large mirror that lights up well. The best lighting however is definitely in the bathroom. Have a fabulous repositioning cruise! Very exciting.🛳

No, you don’t have to tip a second time. We often will give our favourite bartender or waiter a little extra at the end of the trip if service was great.

That's great to hear. The Nieuw Statendam is nearly a carbon copy of the Rotterdam except for the Half Moon Bar. So they should have a great time.
