Those are cool looking. I got the strongholds and love them.

Composite toe is great for cold weather as steel toe sucks the heat right out of your toes. I just bought my second pair after using the first pair for 5 years of 50-60 hour work weeks on concrete floor, lots of knocks and kicks walking in tight places in trailers and crowded dock. Could have worn them at least another year longer but the way I walk my right foot comes down at an outward angle and wears the outside back of the heel terribly on anything I wear so it got to be too much wear on the heel, the other foot does the same thing but at a much lesser degree so it was fine. If they still make them by the time the new ones wear out I will be buying them for a third time.

Actually, the lacing hooks are metal. I know they look like plastic, but I got out a magnifying glass and could see metal around the edges where the coating was wearing off.
I got my Danner 8 inch insulated boots last January and they're still like new. They've held up well and protected my feet very nicely. Best boots I've ever bought. They replaced a pair of redwing 9 inch loggers that were crap.
(I'm here in southern Idaho btw).

Are these better than the Danner Steel Yards?

I had a pair of these (6" height). I work outside in all weather and all terrain including rocks. I am _very_ hard on boots. They were _very_ comfortable right out of the box. That said, the waterproofing gave out almost immediately. I had sprayed them with alcohol so maybe that ruined it? Either way, it didn't hold up. After about 11 months the stitching on the side started giving way. By 13 months it had ripped out entirely and I had to replace the boots.
Also the leather over the toe seemed especially susceptible to chipping. I'd definitely get a toe protector and put it on.
If you need a really comfortable waterproof protective toe boot, it's a solid choice for something you want a year out of. Just get a toe protector and beeswax/mink oil.
If I bought a second pair (which I didn't) I'd see if not alcoholing them makes the waterproofing last longer. But I didn't buy another pair because of the stitching giving way by the outside ball of the foot.
For a one-year boot it's a decent choice. I'd buy em again, but I thought I'd see if I could do better.

The only complaint about these boots is how waterproof or water resistant they are not :/ other than that they are great 👍

Question? Does anyone know if they will pass for inspection with forestry standards
