My darling Partner would frequent his local and quite often find himself sitting between an Irish friend and a Scottish mate which quite often left him just sitting 🪑 and nodding hoping their conversation was going well with the liquid lubrication that didn’t always help 😆but that was all part of life before we lost him 💔 Live your life and be Thankful for the Friendships that are there for You 💖 Thank You for taking time to share this happy memory with me 🍻
It was the early 70's my Girlfriend and I loved Rod Stewart. We got tickets to see The Faces. Lights were low, safety lights on the stage and lights coming from Amps. Suddenly the lights came up, the Band was onstage and Rod was running around in a Pink Satin Top Hat and Tails with a feathered Boa ... madness ensued and one hell of a show! I remember every moment 50 years later.
My mother went to Ireland and saw The Dubliners. She purchased an album for me, The Dubliners Live at Albert Hall. I played that album till I wore it out. Took me forever to understand the accent. I was 19 years old, and that was 55 years ago. I miss my mom.
Yer man below is half right. Ewan wrote it about an imaginary town, inspired by both Salford and his parents background in Scotland, written for a Joan Littlewood play. Most of us under 60 in Ireland were introduced to it through The Pogues version, but the older people knew it from The Dubliners.
Still love the rendition by LUKE KELLEY
R I P Shane MacGowan, We will never forget him.

A great Irish ballad...written by an English man about Salford.
Yep ,Rod Stewart performed iconic IRISH Ballads so brilliantly. 👍
It's that well known Irish town Salford 🤣🤣
I understand your comment now, the Poques covered this. It was written by Ewan MacCall, born in Salford of Scottish parents.
