I make it point to find real "live" performances of this era. Many times the acts would lip sync to their recordings. My hat is off to this great "live" performance by the lengendary Danny and the Juniors.
I just wanted to post another comment- I'm from 1990 (so that means I'm 21 now) and I just love this song so much :) I've also set it on my cellphone as my alarm to wake me up every morning!! :)
thought I had seen all of the film of this one but NO -never saw this one. so big thanks. I have this one and ramalamdingdong on my computer dasboard and they get played daily(almost)
Met them after a recent show. That's the first time I've had a 72-year-old man tell me to "keep rockin.'" Current line-up includes Joe, Frank, and Frank's brother Bob. Super-nice guys that can still rock.
@@Genninap The co-writer (with Dave White) of the song, John Madara, is a good friend of mine. In fact, went up to see him this week. He and Dave were writing partners for many years.
This is actually one of the few recordings where they actually featured live audio! Most of the time in 50's, they used the studio recording over the live performance, but this is one of rose rare exceptions!
Fabulous live performance by Danny & the Juniors! A shame that lead singer, Danny Rapp, blew his brains out in Vegas in 1983. Although they were thought to be an Italian quartet, they were comprised of Irish and Italian guys. Wonderful group live ... miss 'em a lot. Listen to a B-side of theirs 'Sometimes (When I'm All Alone)' to hear their beautiful harmony.
Check those crinolines on the girls' dresses! I remember my (then) teenager aunt using boiled sugar to make her crinolines stiffer so they stood out almost 90 degrees! Yeah - live voices - but somehow the music sounds very live too! I bet there's a band out of sight to give them a backup. There are certain nuances different from the original recording in the band that make it sound to me like it's live, not Memorex.
No, it was Clark, himself, who suggested it. The song was originally titled "At the BOP". And Clark said to the writers that the dance, "The Bop" was going out of style and the new thing was "sock hops". He suggested that the title be changed to "At the HOP". As they say, "And the rest… was history!"
Obviously this film was originally 4:3, then wherever they got this digital copy was 16:9 which stretches their faces, then the uploader, instead of reframing it to 4:3, they just cropped it to a 4:3 picture. That's why the text at the beginning and the guy on the right(I forget his name) is a bit cut off.
Al your sensitivity is just oozing out of your comments and also incorrect, Danny did "commit suicide" in Parker, Arizona. You have no idea what drives someone to it and I wish you nor anyone ever have to directly deal with a loved one doing something like that. If you do maybe then you may choose your observations better. Why can't you just enjoy the music and video as rare as they are.
It's nice to hear a truly live version.
57 years old and still one of the best Rock n Roll songs ever.
Absolute utter perfection! One of rock and roll's definitive masterpieces.
@MikeBlitzMag & @Chunkymonkey7, Back when music was ACTUALLY good

What a great song? I was six a the time and remember my older sisters dancing in the living room. Great memories!!
Something about American post war times, the cars, styles, music, accents,,this song encapsulates all this, pure gold.
As a baby boomer who grew up during that time, it cant be said any better than you did...well done indeed....
when music was about fun
Why couldn't I be 15 at this time :/ wonderful era
Same I love this kind of music especially the 50s
We need to bring Rock n Roll back
Oh, there are many Rockabilly and Rock 'n' Roll bands out there for sure. Such a pity you have to find them.
One of the best jiving to this song.

I know you posted your comment 7 years ago, but as. you may or may not know, Joe Terry passed away last year.
I did, thank you. Sad to have lost him and Dave White within a month. So glad I met Joe.

If this isn't one of the best oldies and a real cool song to dance to, I don't know what is.
Ah, fellow high school alumni, from Saint John Neumann HS, S PHILLY.
Is that live? Sounds faster than the original! Daaang!

MichaelsShortFilms Do you know what show this was on?
@@deserthound2605 I'd also like to know
Superb!!
Ground breaking

Just the way they were dressed is enough to make them great role models.
And these guys at this time, were only a couple of years older than you are.... : )

Danny & The Juniors - At The Hop (1957)
@47Mystic47 Wow! That's one hell of an alarm clock !!!
All the guys and chicks can get their kicks at the hop. "Kicks" meant having fun.
This live version is better than the recorded one.
Hathaway Alfred I miss the cool attitude of the recorded version. This one seems corny by comparison.
Fond memories>>RWB
Boys scared to death to dance with the girl's!!@. LOL!!!!!
After all, that's have babies are conceived. I thought everyone knew that!
cats and chicks!! :D Greaser "language" ;)
this one should be covered by The Overtones. It´d be great!!

1:23 the guys in the middle sound like a duck... ;D I like this song!

People grew old faster back then, I guess.
I heard that it was Dick Clark's wife who suggested they change the song title to "At The Hop"

Where is this from? Local bandstand show perhaps?
Danny should have held off his demise until the advent of youtube, He would be a star all over again!!
The guy on the right looks like a young Jamie Farr
You're not the first person to have said that.
did somebody put it on 78 rpm...should be 45 rpm
It was live so they sung quicker.
Bartrum High School
What's with big heads?
what show even is this?
IM pretty sure people had bigger brains then now, apparently...
OKAY, CAN THEY SNAP ON BEAT .. DAM WHITE FOLKS I SWEAR
why is there black lines in the screen
Because
Why are their faces so big and body so short?
Distortion. Probably from converting the original film footage to digital. I don't really know.

if u be able to write a song like this.... then u don't need to look for a job any more....
@mopable Danny Rapp committed suicide in 1983, it is not a joke buddy.
