  • I did a backpacking trip that started at my front door. Normally I drive somewhere so that was a first! I stealth camping on the beach 2 miles from my house. Stealth as stealth gets when exposed on a big wide open beach. 😆 I made hot dogs over the fire and enjoyed some cheap red wine while watching an amazing sunset. Some people saw me but did not bother me. I woke up early and hiked home before too many people or beach patrol comes by.
This area is between Seacliff State Beach and Manresa State Beach on Pacific Ocean / Monterey Bay California.
The tent I used is a SlingFin Crossbow 2. Since the weather was perfect I left the fly at home. This tent is great for situations where it is windy or there is blowing dust/sand. Fortunately there was minimal wind and no blowing sand. 😃

Have you ever camped on a beach?

Only a couple of times, when I worked as an instructor for Outward Bound, down in the Everglades. Sand is HARD, without an air mattress!!

@@SasSaga That sounds amazing! I was in Everglades last year. I slept in the back of my rental car. Saw a lot of gators. I might be a little nervous sleeping in a tent close to water in the Everglades.

We go up the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in the UP most summers and stay at Union Bay Ca,pground. We always reserve camping spots right along Lake Superior. Like, the camper is literally like 20-30 feet from the shore and it is amazing!!! Nothing beats going to sleep and waking up with the sound of the surf!

@@lutheranhiker Love it! That sounds great. I used to live in Wisconsin and would visit Pictured Rocks NL yearly. Camping on Lake Superior is one of my favorite. The size definitely feels like being on the ocean.

Thanks! It was fun. I read that Backbone Trail guide you sent. Sounds like campsites are few & far between, and stealth camping might be needed to space it out better. Do you plan to camp in the campground or designated sites when you go?

@@MountainsCallingMe Not opposed to stealth camping so my motto will be WIT= Whatever It Takes 😁

Hmm, looks fun, but I'm not sure "stealth" means whatever you think it means!

Yep. I know. Stealth as stealth gets on a wide open beach. đŸ€“
