Once I visited the deep south and I noticed everyone going to church every sunday....then Monday through Saturday everyone acted what I would consider questionable behavior, cheating on their spouses, doing drugs and acting belligerent...I asked my uncle why do people act so horrible the rest of the week and still get on their pious high horse because they attend church? Its like going to church and believing in god gives Christians permission to sin because they believe we are all sinners...my uncles response...you got it...so next time someone says an atheist is an atheist because they want to sin....remember Christians are sinning left and right because it is in their doctrine that all they have to do to get to heaven is believe in god and jesus Christ as their savior..thats it....they can sin all they want after that...I prefer to hold myself accountable for my actions thank you very much.

sharislo I started going to this new church after we moved, and the smell of booze and cigarettes was disgusting. And obviously not washing recently. UGH. I stopped going. And I had stopped believing even before that. It was something you just did.

I'm sure that there are quite a lot of christians that don't cheat on their wives. I'm sure that most of them are like any other human being from any culture. Biology has a huge effect on behavior. The idea of a soul is none sense. Men are attracted to many nice looking women and think about sex often. It doesn't matter if the girl is 15 or 60. Am I suppose to believe that a god really wanted to design this and then Jesus says to tear your eye out? Evolution theory can explain the situation better.

This is how cruel Christianity can be, in Australia the New South Wales State Govt. had a vote on a bill to allow Terminally Ill people in the final stages access to Medical Pot. The bill was voted down by 2 votes from the Christian Democrat's, a spokesman for the Party quoted “While we have sympathy for the terminal ill we believe that no one should be able to enjoy their medications”. Really!! I get relief from my morphine daily which gives me enjoyment does that mean my morphine needs to be taken away.

I am all for Planned Parenthood, both as an organization and as a concept, but the organization should probably change its name, as the name implies that their only purpose is contraception and abortion. Maybe Women's Health Association?

    • @theatheistguard8690
      @theatheistguard8690 Před 9 lety +3

I have often contemplated that too.
Then again, it is "planned PARENTHOOD," not "planned avoidance of parenthood." It implies that they help you plan to be a parent, not that they provide services to avoid becoming a parent. I always felt their name was deceitful, back when I was a pro-life theist.
Still, I think they could still do well if they adpopted a superior name like you suggested though. Good idea.

He said hemispherectomy, which is incorrect. What he means is corpus callosotomy, where the corpus callosum (the bit of nervous tissue connecting each brain hemisphere) is severed. This is usually done to treat severe epilepsy where no other treatment has proven efficacious. This results in ipso facto two different individuals in the same body, unable to communicate. Hemispherectomy is an extremely rare procedure where one hemisphere of the brain is removed.

So, in order to have the universe be the way it is, it HAS to have this "order", or else you wouldn't even exist/you'd be asking why the universe had THAT "order".

Some form of order was required to cause Pi? Has that guy actually looked at pi? It's not exactly the most orderly number. There's literally no pattern to it. If some form of order that's capable of making structuring math itself caused pi, then pi most certainly would not be the value which it is. The only time pi is a round number is in base pi, base half-pi, base 2*pi, and so on and so forth. Even then, the natural logarithm is still just as icoherent as Pi in any other base and vice versa.

@CoreyfromEarth nobody needs to label things, its just much easier to do. By rejecting the word "atheist" you simply force yourself to describe yourself as "a human being w/ no superstitious beliefs or religion" rather then just call yourself an "atheist". Your free to do so but it doesn't change the fact that to normal folk who don't reject the word atheist, you are still an atheist which means you have something "specific" in common with other atheists which means your still in the same group.

Isn't it interesting that the word atheist if looked at with separation between the a and t it reads a theist. Maybe we should look to another term describing us non believers? 😊

@coopersnoop The people who founded Israel as a nation only did it because the Bible said it would happen.
As a real world example: Star Trek said that one day we would have hand held devices which allow us to comminicate via voice over incredible distances. The guy who invented the mobile phone only did so because of Star Trek. Is Star Trek suddenly prophetic?

No the 16% are declared to be atheist or unaffiliated with any religion. They were asked and replyed "none". What kind of religious person would say that?

@noble381297 Well, here are two possibilities: You could either try to have a rational conversation with them about why you're an atheist, and hope they will either see your reasoning and either drop their faith or at least accept your position - or - You could just not bring up the subject and let them think whatever they want.
Personally I'd aggressively argue with them until I either alienated them or won them over, but that's me.

Fair enough:As a person who happens to be african american, the fact it was founded on hate based ideas is a big red flag to me. Whether the current administrators adhere to the ideology or not the fact remains it was founded on those ideals so the question to me is does it fulfill that founding ideology and being that the majority of "clientele" are minorities and given the concentration in low income neighborhoods I would say it does. Though Im open to learning/ changing my mind.

I feel bad for Ronald but I have been in his shoes myself. He is just on the cusp of learning and is far from understanding. The fact that he thinks pi is a constant... wow. Pi is a ratio. It is no different than giving a funny name and greek character to 0.5 since 1 divided by 2 equals 0.5. It just has significance as it is the circle ratio and circles are used to model lots of processes and things making it easier to just use a variable. All Ronald needs to do is start reading books on math and science. The confidence that would provide is incredible as the whole universe does make sense (at some level) after all and you dont have to stick a god in the holes of your lack of comprehension. In fact, merely the process of shrinking the holes in your comprehension is itself enough for most people to arrive at the conclusion that sticking god in any knowledge-hole is unjustified and a logical falacy.

Ronald's logic was way off, but he was right that Pi is a constant, because it is a mathematical constant that describes the ratio between circumference and diameter of a circle. He wasn't wrong there.

@me25422 No not if the mother wants. Im saying compared to the mother's life being in danger, I would value the life that is fostering another life. Considering the fetus as life/human, then in turns of taking a life then yes, its morally wrong. However if the fetus is just congruent to life, similar to a plant in that its living but you dont envision it 'Dying' or being 'Killed' per se. Personally, I think as long as the parents cannot manage to raise a child properly they shouldnt have kids.
