    The April 16 patch brought a lot of new exciting changes to Guild Wars 2: class balance changes, the cosmetic inspect option, and overall "improvements" to the Jade Bot Protocols.
    Well... they would be improvements, if not for one tiny change.
    They not only fixed the internal cooldown on Jade Offensive and Defensive Overcharge, which give you every single boon in the game when entering combat, but increased it to 90 seconds. As it stand right now, you're lucky to get 10 seconds of buffs, for the next 90 seconds.
    On paper this might look like an okay decision, but it translates horrendously when it comes to actual gameplay. Fear not, though, as I have been coming up with ways to alleviate the need for these protocols, and even keeping some of the builds that heavily relied on them intact.

    Now, after a few weeks without the protocols I noticed that it did spoiled some fun I had in open world. Not because I was depending on them. 90% of the time I run boondps builds in open world, so even before the nerf I mostly didn't take them since I hated to pay attention not to travel to Mistlock, guild hall etc. No big deal. But in these 10% when I used them (for example map completion on tiny alts or rift farming) they feel REALLY. And they are not just useless. I find myself even actively avoiding them now because it's sooo annoying being hit all the time by some trash mob and then not being able to engage where you would actually need them. As I said I never needed the protocols, but they were so fun to use. Since they are gone the grindy stuff feels really like a slog.
    The protocols might have been bugged with 0s CD, but in my oppinion it was absolutly in line with all the other QoL stuff anet is giving us. It was absolutly brilliant design because it used to be both super strong, but very limited at the same time - so it was never gamebreaking.
    What many people forget is that all you got was a short boost once you enter combat. This only helps ONLY you on trash and grindy content. Once you entered combat all you had were max 30s boons, that's basically nothing. Also it's strictly limited to open world.
    The Dragon's End meta is the perfect example. The boonbursts made the loooong, boring part far more enjoyable while they did not matter once you reached Soo-Won.
    There are many people defending the nerf, but I still wait to hear ANY valid argument against them. Yes, it's strong, but you can apply the same criticism to a lot of QoL mechanics in the game like dodging-invulnerability, mounts, etc.
    Please, if any of you feel otherwise, please challenge me on my oppinion. Where have the protocols as they were any gamebreaking or a net negative for the game?
    Don't get me wrong. It's not the end of the world. I'm just sad to see an absolutly brilliant mechanic butchered. Luckily the game is sandboxy enough, so I can simply ignore most of the grindy parts I dislike doing. Rift farming for example. 🤷‍♀Also I'm experienced enough pick the right classes and builds to get the stuff done I want. Anyway, ... I would like to see the protocols return or making them even more accessable since they mostly benefit less experienced players and maybe demonstrate to them why they SHOULD care about buffs in general instead of ignoring them.😮‍💨

    • @phandrel
      @phandrel  Před 21 dnem +2

      I agree that the 0s ICD was fine. Metas weren't affected any more than they are now, since you're mostly in combat during the actual event.
      Gathering didn't really get "broken" on specs without perma-quickness, because enough boon duration, the one quickness ability most have access to and enough boon duration takes care of everything. Which leaves mob farming, and that is protected by the Diminishing Returns mechanic. So there's really no good reason to not put it back at 0s. But I'm glad they at least are willing to admit 90s was too much, and they'll revert it back to 30 when the next build goes live.

      I honestly can't find a good reason why a nerf would be warranted. It mainly benefited players going in and out of combat, and that's it.
      Meta events would still be influenced the same by the current or previous versions, as you're basically stuck in combat for most meta events.
      Gathering with quickness is possible on every spec with some creative workarounds. So the only thing I can think about is mob farming, and there's DR to curb abusing that.
