Most of my guides focus on how to either gain gold and various currencies, or how to spend them. Something equally as important would be to not waste them, which I haven't talked about yet.
So let's talk about avoiding wasting your gold, as well as some other account bound currencies, such as Laurels, Astral Acclaim, Spirit Shards, Unbound & Volatile Magic, and what vendors to absolutely avoid!

Finally, something i am good at! Being duped...
Hey, a win is a win :P
3:15 don't tell me what to do. I will have you know I have bought the essence of gold every single time and I have made at least 10 silver by doing so^^
Given infinite time, you will have outearned all of us :P
@@phandrel im actually at 2+ silver on a normal money drop by now
so cant stop now^^
how was the 565 gold figure calculated for the essence of gold item? its 1000 AA which if you cap and are buying 35 AA = 1g at the end, is only a 28.57g investment
@@tehcodingmonkey It's the approximate value of the legendary starter kit
that makes sense.. but you can only buy one legendary starter kit. its unfair to say 565g = 1000 AA for all the astral acclaim you earn
Dont use waypoints unneccesarily. For example if you need to get to Cantha maps from central Tyria, make sure to use your Arborstone scroll first, and then WP to your desired map. You'll save like 7 silver. Do it 12 ish times, you saved like 1 gold.
That is so true! I'm guilty (and have been ever since I got the game) of this.
also there is a HUGE use for revive orbs
i myself have not used it but i have told many others to go for it
fractal cm 100 is a fight where people can die .. but those orbs can be used
if you do not have those orbs in your inventory but u have enough astral acclaim you can open shop get an orb and use it to revive yourself
kind of an skill issue
fair.. but if argue still better than wasting a try ten minutes in the making
also.. yeah costs like 2.5g per use if compared to the endless gold bags of 35astral acclaim per gold... but its usually your fault if u die there so for you to pay that is kind of fair^^
That actually sounds not too bad if you just want to get the clear in 😯
I always get the reviver orbs, for the bugfestival 100 fractal
I had never considered that scenario. I got 70+ in my bank, so I'm still good, for now.
I'm starting to dislike the wiki and crafter on Efficiency in how it only values items based on buy orders and not on sell orders. Specifically because it underestimates the actual cost of crafting something when no one selling remotely close to the buyer's price.
I've been using gw2bltc lately, but the crafting tree doesn't always show up. Also, slowly working my way through some spreadsheet for that specific reason, they're slower, but more customised to my needs.
in the crafting calc on Efficency is a drop down for order or instand buy right next to "use own materials" and most other pages there have a similar option for the pricing.
i do agree on most of them...
but saying 1k astral acclaim for 1% gold find is a waste.. since its the equivalent of 500somethign gold is... only correct if you have not bought anything from the shop
more realisticly is that youd only buy this at the very latest.. i have.. every seaso nso far gone way past the limit and instead of just buying 1 gold for 35astral acclaim.. so 28gold 50silver for 1000astral acclaim.. i went with 1% gold find
will it pay for itself.. probably not.. probably still a bit worse than having almsot 30 gold...
but its still a long shot from your 565gold
one could argue that its some sort of long time investment / specualtion that in the case some content gets released where gold drops is a bit higher.. then an active account with several of these bonuses will make it worthwhile
as of right nnow i would tell others to avoid it even tho i myself go for it.. but still... you make it sound TERRIBLE.. while its just a bit medicore
Yeah, compared to the most modest gold coin option, it is indeed less bad.
I felt like still comparing it to the Legendary Starter Kit, though - as I figured not everyone is buying every item in the shop.
Having the starter kit be in your bank for a year still feels like a better investment to me, personally.
How is the cost of Lesser Essence of Gold the equivalent of 565 gold? Are you talking about how the Legendary kit is priced? It would be more fair to compare it to Gold coin bags, the equivalent of 28.5 gold. The whole "value" of the vault items are arbitrary when you compare it to other limited purchase items.
When you already bought everything Lesser Essence will always benefit the long run. Since late game mobs drop whole, multiple silver all the time.
I agree that the starter kit might have been a bit of an exaggeration as a comparison. I still find it hard to see value in 1% gold increase, though. For 2 silver, that's 2 copper. Knowing that the DR mechanics supposedly start kicking in when killing 5+ mobs/min (albeit never confirmed), that's a lot to still catch up. Given enough time, it'll probably pay off, but I'd rather get gold now and put that to use.
Yeah, wasted stack or two of ecto on Lhyr, which is a significant expense for newbie.
Yeah, at first, it looks like a decent option since you can forego levelling crafting professions. But those 10 ectos per purchase add up rather quickly.
@@phandrel The main problem is that I had level 500 professions, I just didn't know that I could craft the essences on my own.
OOPS I'm guilty of spending mithrillium and other ascended mats on provisioners tokens...
Turn those into a xunlai electrum ingot and make a jade bot core: tier 10 a day :)
Requires some tinkering to do in a cost efficient manner (notably research notes), but it's a solid money maker.

Mystic forge? I think you meant mystic toilet.
I misspoke, hoped no-one would catch it.
you forgot to mention guild halls and scribing as money sinks 😅
True! Levelling scribing was far more costly than I thought, and I seem to constantly sell stuff for the hall (and that's with a helpful bunch already contributing materials as well).
