- Our Campervan Bed that moves!
Having two kids and two dogs we needed the ultimate flexibility when it came choosing our campervan conversion bed frame and seat. We didn't want to lose the massive boot space our BVW Camper affords us and at the same we wanted the kids to be up front with us for long journeys. We found this, The Smart Evolution R! Hiya we have just had the same seat fitted and really like how you have boxed in the underneath. Who did this or did it come like this?

Im wondering if you could let me know what the clearance is from the finished floor level to the top of the bed frame? Also is the bed removable from the vehicle?
We are seriously contemplating purchasing van just like this! We too are a family of 4 with 2 girls. My question is! What are your sleeping arrangements, where do you find the kids sleep best. A video on this would be fab, with recommended equipment!

Hi Jenny, thanks so much for this. Yes it’s on our list of to dos! In brief we sleep down the bottom and the kids in the pop top. We use duvalay compact mattress toppers on the seat bed and have a 2.5cm memory foam and a 2.5cm foam base in the pop top, so in total 5cm this is great as it gives us room to store sleeping bags up there! 2 questions:
- Can you sit and travel on reverse seats like you would in forward position.
- could you have a second row of seats to carry more people, then just remove the 2nd row when you want to use the bed system? Thank you.
The reverse seat is not a seat unfortunately. Not sure there would be room for two sets, perhaps give the manufacturer a call?
Hello. Very good video. I see the back of your seat is about level with the edge of the door opening is this with the supplied rails or did you order longer rails. Thanks.
Thats a good questions, from memory they are rails specifically for the LWB T6
Hi. can you put the bed down in forward position. so you could store bikes at the back with the wheels off?
Hi Sean, as far as we know it has to be all be all the way to the back of rails. In theory you could position the rails further forward which would give you room in the back for bikes...probably best to give Smart bed a call...they are very helpful :-)
Hi :) I'm considering this system too. My concern is how the rails are attached to the chassis? Is there any additional structural reinforcement underneath the floor to evenly spread the load? I'd be worried the rails and bed would tear out of the aluminium in an accident if not.
in short yes it is reinforced as the complete system is crash tested(rails and bed). id recommend having a chat with the manufacturer to get the full details. I don’t want to get anything wrong. Thanks for watching
We have had this bed suggested for our conversion, my only concern is the raised rails the bed slides on. Do you notice these while campion or are they low enough to not be an issue? Thanks
Great question! I (Martin) was really concerned that the raised rails would be an issue, but we don’t notice them, we’ve never tripped or stubbed toes on them and hardly notice them. The only thing to be careful with is giving them a good hoover after trips, they do become a sand trap! Thanks for watching!
How are you finding the rail system? Also how comfortable is the bed. Did they fit the floor too? I just want the bed fitted and wondering whether I need to get the floor done myself first and the all the cupboards etc or to do it after the beds fitted. Lastly where did you get it fitted
Hello, we’ve just spent the last 3 weeks sleeping on the bed and with the mattress toppers it’s okay…I wouldn’t recommend more than 2/3 weeks sleeping on it full time as our backs our achy. The chap that fitted it has now retired. I would recommend having the rails fitted then work around them :-)

Hi, did Smart beds fit for you as an aftermarket modification? Do the rails fit on top of the existing floor? Do you find you trip up on them? I’m thinking a special fit carpet could help avoiding the trip hazard? I’m really keen to get this system installed. Thanks, Mark
Hi Mark, yes we had the rails fitted as part of the conversion. Although they weren’t fitted by smart bed, I’m sure they could do it for you. There isn’t a specific flooring, just the standard wood base used for conversions. Nope we have never tripped on them, I was concerned about this, buts it’s never been an issue. They only thing to be mindful is cleaning the rails, to make sure nothing gets caught! Hope that helps, Thanks for watching!
