    This video shows how to fit Bagpiping Andy’s Wabco Air Suspension Compressor repair kit for the replacement of the piston ring seal in the air suspension compressor fitted in following models: Audi allroad, Audi A8, Audi Q7, Landrover Discovery 2, Jaguar XJ series, Mercedes S & C-Class, VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne.
    Air suspensions can gradually become inefficient and fail. In the case of Arnott-Wabco air compressors it is often due to wear of the piston ring. This gradual wear leads to inefficient compressor operation with symptoms including excessive noise, a reduced rate of rise or even failure to rise.
    This affects all models using this Wabco compressor including:
    Audi allroad C5 (2000 to 2005)
    Audi Allroad C6 (2006 to 2011)
    Audi A8 / D3 / 4E (2002 to 2010)
    Audi Q7 (2005 to 2013)
    BMW X5 / E53 (2000 to 2006)
    BMW 5 Series / E39 (1997 to 2008)
    BMW 7 series / E65 (2002 to 2006)
    Jaguar XJ (2003 to 2010)
    Land Rover Discovery 2 (1998 to 2004)
    Mercedes E Class - w211 (2002 to 2009)
    Mercedes S Class - w220 (1998 to 2005)
    Porsche Cayenne (2002 to 2010)
    Range Rover Mk 3 / L322 (2002 to 2005)
    VolksWagon Touareg (2002 to 2010)
    In the past replacement parts were not available leaving car owners with the rather expensive solution of replacing the whole compressor. Not only is this a waste of money but also downright stupid and a waste of natural resources. Bagpiping Andy developed the original piston ring repair kit that solves the problem and costs a fraction of a brand new compressor. For more details on this kit visit Bagpiping Andy’s website www.bagpipingan...

    Perfect kit. The Audi dealer is not going to install these parts, they'll try to tell you that you need a new compressor. 30 bucks in parts and a couple hours of your time. If you go to an Audi Dealer, they'll likely try to sell you a new OEM compressor (list price 1600 dollars), plus 2 to 3 hours shop time. This is not a difficult job, there are two tricky parts. The first is removing the electrical connectors, which are tucked into a tight space. The second tricky part is fighting gravity while trying to re-install the compressor, the washers that rest above the mounting flanges, and springs and spacers that go under the flanges. What I did was to get all three washers in place, hold the compressor in position (use a second set of hands or a transmission jack), then install the springs and spacers. The whole job should take less than two hours start to finish, unless you spend any time looking for dropped parts. I'm grateful to have a lift, I would not want to do this job on my back with the car on jack stands, although a younger me would not have had a problem with that.

    Very useful video, thank you. The kit is excellent, and using what I learned from this I replaced the piston ring in the compressor of my 2001 Allroad today and it has rejuvenated the compressor to be back like new.
    FYI, for the price of a "drink" I used a local garage's car lift, and access was so good I did not need to remove the compressor from the car, but was easily able to remove the top and replace the necessary parts with the main body of the compressor still on the car. I worked slowly and methodically, but it still only took about 30 minutes.
    Highly recommended!

    If the compressor is 7-10 years old this won't fix it , you'll find that the motor starts to fragment inside , remove the motor head bolts to see inside , if the metal plates on the rotor or "iron core" are marked or dented then this is a sign its knackered I'm afraid 😨, you'll still get error codes as the amps in the motor will be all over the place you may even find the car stats with other electrical malfunctions as this problem will cause them, better off just changing the whole compressor.

    I removed the Wabco Continental ZSB suspension compressor on my 2005 Audi Allroad. I have a hard and steady 01397 code failure indicating the N111 solenoid was bad. I didn't see any bad wiring anywhere, so I removed the compressor.
    How do I bench check this compressor to confirm it's bad? It seemed to be working fine before it failed suddenly as I was driving it. Over a week or so it sunk down evenly to the lowest stops on all fours wheels.
    The numbers after Wabco are: 001 0424. Does this mean it was made on 2004?
    Thanks!

    Are you going to offer a new compressor/cylinder head for these air pumps? I replaced the piston ring, works really good again 20 seconds to lift to each of the 4 positions, but I noticed the cylinder bore was worn pretty good, I used a small piece of 400 grit wet dry to polish one spot on the bore. Pretty sure that's is a Teflon based coating on the cylinder bore.

  • @JurisKankalis
    @JurisKankalis Před 7 lety

    Hello, I am most probably going to buy the kit for my 2008/05 allroad, shipment to Germany. Just one question which puzzles me: you say there is no lubrication necessary. This somehow makes me think the wear of the seal is exactly because there is no lubrication whatsoever, as the proper type of oil/grease would greatly increase the life span. Of course anything petrol-based is probably ill-advised as they invite fine dust/muck. But what about low-adhesion lubricants, like something silicone-based? Like the stuff they sell for door rubbers during the winter? I mean buying a 20 or 30 pound part is not that much, but once you imagine its lifespan could be increased easily, just doesn't make sense. Thank you.

    • @ToshLubek
      @ToshLubek  Před 7 lety +1

      From a conversation I had with Andy I think the part is designed not to be lubricated. The seal is manufactured from a material that has very low friction. If you visit Andy's website I think he gives more details there.

    I have a 2014 Q7 and my compressor kit got replaced due to some fault , mainly due to the noise which it started while lifting the suspension of the vehicle from lower levels. The Audi guys replaced with new two solenoid compressor and the noise is still coming while lifting. He even showed other q7 they are quiet a bit. The guy saying "as u got two solenoid(the latest one) with extra valves its making little more noise. No need to worry about that". He replaced that through warranty and so I want confirm from u, that while lifting the vehicle from dynamic mode, does the compressor make sound,apart from the engine noise? Please observe precisely, from q7 or the vehicle u have and let me know please, just now I got it, that's why. He even explained well and showed me the old compressor with my chasis number. Great vid Andy, and I see you're on a certain 'auction' site too 👍🏻 Quick question Andy if I may. I have replaced the suspension air bags on my BMW f11. I raise the car wheels off the floor and the air bags inflate and become rigid/hard... but when I lower the car onto the floor the rear drops all the way down and the air in the bags is pushed out! Is this a compressor issue? As I noticed a comment you made where a pipe on the compressor is there to allow air to escape. Many thanks.

    I never received the items from "Bagpipingandy", I'm sorry to say but I think think you are fake.

    • @ToshLubek
      @ToshLubek  Před 7 lety

      Hi Takudzwa. Andy is certainly not a fake. He only sells through ebay so when you bought one of his kits it must have been through ebay. If you follow the link below you will see ebay's advice to buyers who have not received any bought items. Ultimately you can open a dispute on ebay if you do not receive the goods and the seller does not respond. ebay also offer a money back guarantee if the issue is not resolved. Personally I would check the details on the listing as to delivery times and if it has been more than 10 days after the estimated delivery date then contact Andy through ebay/PayPal.
