I designed and built a fully modular workbench system that can work for any kind of workshop. Smaller carts can be rearranged and connected to maximize functionality depending on the project. Each cart has ample storage that can also be customized. The workbench is on wheels which makes it great for situations where it needs to be easily moved around such as a 2 car garage. This workbench system is not only perfect for woodworking, but also for other setups such a small business, hobby, serving tables, and more! Hopefully this workbench system can transform your workspace to be even more functional!

What kinds of projects would you use this workbench system for?
I have a one-car garage with the constant need to switch things around. This system is amazing! Thank you! Sold.
I would love to have something like this for my art studio since I paint on flat surfaces. But how would you attach the top so that there are no screw heads poking through.
@@nriqueog counter sink and optionally plug, or attach from the bottom with tabletop fasteners
I'm going to use them for outfeed table with my tablesaw to start then see where it goes from there
@@nriqueog pocket screws from the bottom?
Great book for a beginner . czcams.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ this book really starts from the beginning, as in it explains what basic tools are and how to use them. But when it gets to the art of creating joints and how and when to use them this book really starts to teach you something. At least that was my experience.
Great link thanks a lot 😁👍
This is NOT a book for a beginner! DON'T FALL FOR Ted’s 16,000 Woodworking Plans SCAM! What do you get if you do buy it? The content package is far smaller than advertised and consists of outdated plans ripped off of public and private sources. There’s no customer service, and it can be hard to get your money back. Additionally, the projects and plans aren’t vetted, with reviews complaining about poor quality. There are CZcams reviews peddling these plans, often with FAKE USER ACCOUNTS or bots contributing comment reviews and fake testimonials to further encourage buyers. I got SCAMMED by this. Please learn from my mistake!
This is a pretty solid little workbench. While once you figure out how it comes together, it is physically Easy to assemble czcams.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh by yourself. But the diagrams explaining the steps are really pretty bad. I could not get the handle pins in all the way despite multiple attempts, so I just used a screw I had on hand for the 2nd handle. I could not get the first pin in further or pull it back out. You are supposed to hammer it in, but I had no leverage and the handle is plastic and I did not want to risk breaking it. I will get a lot of use out of the bench because of the convenient size and height. It does fold up nicely for storage. They even explain how to fold it so you don't get pinched...that is important!
I think I’ve found the work bench I want to build! Now, what are these ‘feet and inches’ you speak of??? 😁🦘🇦🇺
Lol
Ask your wife, tell her I said “it’s time”
_also, sorry_
something about 300 and 25 mm but to make it work in somewhere not-USA you maybe should try to find similar sized parts in more typical sizes... 2" x 4" would be something like 51 x 102 mm but here in Germany it's easier to get 40/60 x 80 or 60 x 100 mm 🤷 so I sometimes think about making a table of typical metric lumber with similar strengths then those imperial sizes 🤔 but maybe there is one and I just haven't found it yet 🤷
In UK we use feet and inches and CM mm meters.. confusing though having both if you get the wrong one or trying to compare things And one uses one and another uses the other! Lol 😅🤦🏻🏴🇬🇧
As a US citizen, it's difficult to argue that the metric system is definitely superior. The problem is noone around here thinks in metric, so you have to know both. I would petition for a shift to logical measuring standards, for sure!
I'll be honest..I'm a old school guy..been wood working for 35 years now..I clicked on this to laugh at it..but I am humbled,,..this youngster is a natural at shop work..so..in conclusion I gotta say,,I learned something new and improved also damn cool..I'm a stubborn old prick who was impressed with your work..well done mate..I am gonna build 4 of these tables...I'm also now subscribed to your channel...I absolutely hate to admit it..lol..but,,yeah,,pretty damn cool...👌..btw..I agree peg board is garbage in my opinion...I hang my tools on French cleats....
Yep.
Why did you want to hate it so bad lol.
These benches would be awesome for modular model railroad layouts! Awesome design!
Shelves and workbenches all like this would be so cool in my small shop!
Wonderful!! Wonderful!! Wonderful!! It's nice to see you back in the workshop! Loved the little one's cameo!! Great to see the "technical difficulties" again!! Great job Ben!! !! !! !! !! 👍👍⭐⭐👏👏👏👏
Very clever Ben! Love all the extra functions.
You're my hero! This is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for as I'm about to move into my first proper small unit and need worktops for prepping and packing products exactly as you've done in your final setup.
What a nice and well thought out build! 👏
This is what I have been looking for, and I didn't even know it. I will make some slight modifications, but this basic design is nearly perfect. Thanks!
This is such a great system. I was thinking of making similar carts for my miter saw and jobsite table saw so that I could slot either into a space depending on which I was using, but I had not considered making the entire work surface modular. What an awesome idea, and all of the storage solutions you demoed were really great use of space.
Phenomenal! Excellent presentation and functionality! Thanks
Nice job on these modular work benches. Thanks for sharing.
Just found your channel and might i say, I really enjoy your approach to realistic, practical, and efficient design mixed with good video and editing skills. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.
I really like the hole solution for connecting the benches. I've liked this style of modularity for a while(2x4 technology from Codename: Kids Next Door). Eye level racks could be added on the back using the holes for storage, tools or whatever.
This was an idea I was fooling around with for a modular table saw table to fit under my existing workbench. Thanks for thinking and demonstrating much more in depth than I thought previously.
love the french cleat organizer idea! Infinite options for storage bins, because you built all the bins for custom fit!
Enjoy all your videos but this one stands out for me. Very useful design. Thank you.
wow..LOVE this. SO versatile! GREAT video, thank you!
Excellent idea 💡 👏
I love how you can add on and arrange as needed. Definitely going to build a few in my new shop!
This video is pure gold!! Thank you!
Outstanding! I subscribed originally when you did the first workbench, this new one is very well thought out, simple, efficient use of materials and the adaptability will work really well for the space I have available. Congratulations on your new addition too, but glad to have you back, I look forward to Saturday mornings to catch your latest YT.
Simple and wonderful!
seriously love this and I've been researching making my first work bench and hands down this is the one I like the most!
This is amazing!! I totally need this! Thanks for sharing !
Love the idea, I have the 4x8’ table and there is times you don’t need so much table, or simply some one is working on the other side. Thanks for sharing and this is definitely a good weekend project 🤘😎
Ingenious, and within all wood-workers' capabilities, Ben. Seasons Greetings to you and yours.
Awesome video! Thank you for your easy to understand walkthrough video. Look forward to seeing your next videos! 😊👏👏
Love this! Thank you for sharing. I will be building one of these soon! I plan to use exterior construction screws for mine rather than drywall screws since it will be used in my garage where it could be exposed to outdoor conditions. Great idea about connecting tables!!
simple and very versatile great job.
Love love love this idea!
Fantastic idea! Thanks.
Cool project and design. Love all the videos
Simple, not too terribly expensive, and modular. Very nice.
Ben, I was so impressed with your modular work benches I bought the plans. Your plans were easy to follow and the project turned out great. Thank you, Alex😀
What a great module design!
Great design! Nice work!
Thanks for posting! I love modular strategies whether for workbenches, shelving or guitars. Simple is great. Locking casters are great! Consider a modular portable system if you haven't already.
This is such a simple, fantastic idea. Great job Ben. Immediate subscribe.
This solution is so simple it's genius! Mind officially blown!
Really like your modular workbench idea, it’s great. Thanks
Built my first one today, from old scrap laying around and HF casters! Thanks!
Thank you!! I needed a mobile, flexible workbench for my 2 car Garage while I demo the old massive one built into one wall. This is so perfect, I hadn't even thought about a modulear design, going to make 3 of these and finally turn my wall into French cleat storage!! Bravo! Earned a sub!
Very well done.
Thanks!
I did something fairly similar for all of my tools so I can rearrange things as needed. My shop is very small and crowded, so I often have to move things to have the space to use them. Anyway, great project! Merry Christmas!. 🌲
I like the idea of this so much. I think I now have a direction to go for my workspace in the coming year! I currently have a few various sizes and shapes of workbenches, but it seems like it'd be really nice to streamline them.
Make one shorter and mount my little contractor table saw on it so the top is flush with the normal height. Others can be ganged together as outfeed tables.
Set up one with my shop vac and dust separator on the bottom shelf.
Heck, maybe even a miter saw one with the saw set lower. Then I could gang together two or three as needed for long miter cut pieces!
Moving things around that often, I might have to look into a quicker-to-use method of joining them. Bolting would be great when they're going to be joined for awhile, but moving them around a bunch, it might get cumbersome.
Thanks for sharing this! Elegance in simplicity!
Just what I needed! Thanks!
Great video, thanks!
I'm inspired thank you.
i love it when your corgi came in and brought you a ball to play - obviously knew you were working hard!
I like this idea - i always seem to need a new surface so modular works nicely. I'll probably try this for my 2nd project after i build a home for my table saw.
Love your work. Very useful video. I'll make at least one in the near future
Awesome…the genius is in its simplicity and versatility. I’m definitely doing this. Thanks man!
awesome just what i needed. Im making a workdesk/clothes storage desk and this fits the bill exactly
I came for the ultimate french cleat system, i kept digging for more videos once i saw the corgi, i subscribed when you threw a ball at yourself. I appreciate the artistry.
Great idea guys, huge respect
Ben, I made three carts and having a blast, I really love this, thank you sooooo much….
I have two workbenches in my very small shop (a converted 8'x16' carport) very similar to yours. They're identical and both on casters. Originally they we were open but I've since added a drawer unit and shelf to one, and a pullout shelf/tray to the other. I enclose both and added doors to keep dust out. They're the workhorses of my shop. I've also used them as trolly carts for lumber deliveries, and platforms for standing on to reach overhead storage items. As you so perfectly illustrate, the versatility of these kinds of workbenches is endless, and so useful. Thanks for the great video.
Great video, awesome seeing some of the customization ideas after they were built. I’d use pilot holes on those legs though.
I'm glad this video came across my tube. I now have another option for utilizing my workspace more efficiently. Thanks!!!
Boy that hits a sweet spot. No more than it needs to be but more than enough to serve the purpose. Nice.
Great video. Very clever and practical. Love your dogs.
Thats so cool! not unlike a workbench I made of a similar size that holds my PC and 3D printer on top.
One thing I would suggest for that configuration is strips of plywood bolted to the back edge of the area where the tape and supplies are so they cant roll backwards off the workbench. I love the modular nature of this design!
Love this idea as I'm starting up with woodworking as a side hustle in my garage. Only thing I might change is flip the bottom so it's a regular shelf to keep fdom collecting as much sawdust. Subscribed love the vid and the puppers 😎
Awesome job. Simple yet functional!
I like that old lathe in the back too. Nice piece of machinery 👌🏻
Brilliant!!! I'm making them
Good video, modular builds are really cool. I built something similar a while back that fit my needs at the time. The only difference is that I built it at bar height because I am tall and secured it together with carriage bolts so it could be broken down quickly and moved because I was still enlisted on active duty.
Understated elegance. Just completed my first 3X6 mobile workbench. I wish I had seen this first. Thanks.
You'd get less cracking in the legs if you staggered the screws, the ones towards the end of the are in the exact same grain line as the previous set of screws. I've got a small shop in the basement and I think this design would be perfect for me, especially since you can roll them out of the doorway (Genius!).
Omg!!!!! I am completely blown away with these modular workbenches!! I just saw the plans on Etsy and saw that you are on CZcams. I love all the options these give you. I am opening a small bakery. Sometimes I need lots of bench space, sometimes I need less. When I’m not baking, I can use 1 or 2 to display my packaged goodies. I also make and sell soap. I could make another set for my soap set up. Thank you so much for sharing this. I will definitely purchase the plans and refer to this video for extra help. Thank you!!! Much Love, Angela-Foxy Farm Coffee and Bakery!! Opening Fall 2023 🎉❤ 🦊
I use a calendar to time my builds
Me too!
This is exactly the kind of workbench I've been looking to build, thanks! One thing, though: You forgot to mention the importance of having two doggos in the workshop to keep you on track. Cheers! 🙂
Thanks! This is great. Just built a 20x10 shed in my backyard this is going to be a great addition.
thank you! i bough the stuff today will build 2 this week i love that i can move them if i need to!
This looks great 👍
I really appreciate how you used basically tools. Awesome video I’m planning on making one of these soon. Thanks!
I built very similar modular work benches. Instead of holes and bolts to attach them I used adjustable latch clamps. If you are going to be moving them around a lot this is very convenient. I like the bottom tray concept you used as mine only have a center shelf.
Just got a new shed and have been looking for the perfect bench and I think this one fits my needs. Great work and new subscriber
very good idea. i like how you also adapt the holes so you can hang things off it too
I just finished this building this workbench. I made the legs 28" long to accommodate my height and also so it will nest under my planned stationary workbench. I love it! Thank you for sharing your design.
Made two of these for our smalls business, going to make a third to house my table saw also. Great video and thanks for the ideas :)
Excellent video and build. Simplicity is the key....2x4's & 3/4 plywood. Doesn't much simpler than that. Sturdy and highly adaptable for many situations. Can still add drawers or whatever meets your needs. One of the best all around workbench ideas around. And, it looks good!
Looks like a fantastically useful design, and best of all it doesn't take a ton of fancy tools or equipment to make and put together.
I'm going to build these soon. Great work
Nice concept, and good editing of the video... thanks!
So simple, yet so good! Love the dogs are with you the whole time :)
And I forgot to say "Thanks" for the great design.
This was my first project in trying to set up a small shop in the basement.
AWESOME video instruction
Even got my stepson off the video game as he was curious...
Had him do ALL the assembly after I had all the pieces cut!
Fun how bonding woodworking can be!
Thanks again
Thanks for sharing! Awesome video! Just subbed!😃
Genius, I love it
GREAT JOB DUDE!! VERY ENTERTAINING EASY TO WATCH.
WOW! Just bought your Modular Workbench Plans. What a great idea for a universal, re-configurable work bench system! Your plan is well executed and easy to understand. I needed a work bench and was struggling to find a plan that was easy to build and would serve multiple purposes. Your plan hit all the marks for me. $15 well spent. Thanks.
You make it look easy.
Wow, excellent. I may have the bodily issues that are unique problems, but over time, I found that the L-shaped desk is very useful if I'm sitting down. I'm not that tall (6'1"), but when I stand and work on a 30" inch desk, my back gets achy. The solution may be a custom build with maybe 40" inches height.
Great idea! Just what I think I'll have to do.
Cool! Nice work!!
Looks good. I like it!
Thank you for sharing this build. It was Easy to build, and the size is very convenient. Made with leftover plywood and store bought 2x4's. I'm using mine as an "oil change station", and gave away two others to neighbors
All of my tools are stored in 4'x2' benches I cobbled together from pallet wood.
I have been playing with the idea of making carts that matched.
Glad I watched this first.
Great design! Thank you. Will sub.
