"It Is NOT Going To Be Helpful!" Labour Promises To Renationalise Rail Services Within Five Years

  • Labour has promised to renationalise nearly all passenger rail services within five years if it wins the next election.
It says a new public body would inherit existing contracts when they expire, taking on responsibility for running services.
Automatic refunds for train delays and better internet connection on trains are also planned.
But Transport Secretary Mark Harper said the plans were "unfunded".
Responsibility for running train services was handed to private companies during the 1990s, since when there has been a boom in rail usage since the days of British Rail.
But they have faced heavy criticism over fares and reliability, with critics saying it has led to an inefficient and fragmented system that has failed passengers.
TalkTV's Jake Berry is joined by former Liberal Democrat MP and ex Transport Minister Norman Baker to discuss.

Have Labour rattled your cage. 😆. If they replaced Starmer with a half eaten pizza, you would still vote for it. That's what you are all like puddled. The last time it was under government control, everyday was strike day. The whole country ground to a halt. Virtually permanently.

A Conservative MP interviews a former Lib Dem about a LABOUR POLICY! So of course they oppose it talk about biased then what do you expect from Murdoch's channel soon to be axed! GB News and Talk TV the home of misinformation, Ofcom are toothless to shut them down. Great to see them sticking to one of Corbyn's policies. The cost is nothing they will re-nationalise as each operator's franchise comes to end instead of going out to tender again they will put them into state control. It works well in Germany, In Ireland in most of Europe were most trains are re-nationalised.

Right now, every time I book a Great Anglia Abelio train to go to work from Norwich to London for £90 return, a chunk of that is leaving the UK to go into someone's pocket in the Netherlands. That's the UK getting a tiny bit poorer every time I go to work.
They posted annual profit last time I checked, so they aren't doing this as a kindness for their old pal Britain, we are being bled bit by bit.
Only buy British where you can afford it, and businesses should focus on international export of our services and goods.

The amount of subsidies make it a farcical proposal. Poor old Branson and his billions of handouts . Just get Waterman and Portillo to run it and maybe Palin could put a few months in

We need to nationalize the Water, Gas and Electric companies as well; all should be non-profit making; bills would be 1/3 what they now are.

Yes, they will, but I gaurentee it'll be a short term contract, long enough for them to gain votes and after they get in, bye bye Trains, back to the Private sector!
The only way we could be convinced they really mean to Help the British Public would be to give a Long term contract with no small print, buy that ain't gonna happen, lol 😂😊😅
