- Talk's Alex Phillips criticises Keir Starmer's latest proposals to stop illegal migration.
Sir Keir said Labour will “replace gimmicks with graft”, scrapping the Government’s Rwanda scheme and using some of the money saved to fund a new “elite Border Security Command” led by a former police, military or intelligence chief.
Attacking the Government’s approach as “rank incompetence”, he dismissed the Rwanda scheme as being unable to provide an effective deterrent and accuse the Conservatives of operating a “Travelodge amnesty” by housing migrants in hotels rather than processing their claims.
Sir Keir also stressed his experience as the former head of the Crown Prosecution Service and pledge to make Britain “hostile territory” for people smugglers.
Alex says: "Wakey wakey. That was just a Lego head laying out the Labour Party's brand new policy for making sure they can stop the boats."

I agree that we should train British people to do high-skilled jobs, but we should not be importing unskilled labour from abroad because we have enough people already that can do unskilled jobs. The guys who want to work come legally with a work permit (agricultural workers, builders, nannies, doctors, nurses, etc). They don't need NGOs or asylum solicitors.

Hmm - the problem with a lot of legislation that takes rights away from people that people might want targeted is the tendency for mission creep. I remember RIPA (only to be used against the most serious terrorists) used to check if people were lying about their address to get their kids into a preferred school or overfilling their bins
