  • The all new Mahindra Thar has been a runaway success for the company in India. While I have spent considerable amount with the diesel Thar on several occasions, I finally got to experience and review the petrol model that comes with the mStallion 150 TGDI engine. I drove this petrol automatic 4x4 across various terrains and even met a customer to understand how good this vehicle really is.

Yes this is a nice and balanced review of the Petrol HT AT Thar. As an owner of one of these awesome machines since Feb 2021, I will agree with almost all the points you have made. I have driven it pretty extensively across different kinds of terrain, both on and off road for about 10000 kms so far. It is a vehicle in which one feels extremely confident to tackle anything the road or terrain throws at one. There are a few serious performance improvements which I have done, replaced the stock side steps to strong metal ones which double up as rock sliders. Lightweight aluminium underbody armour covering the whole underbelly including the radiator, the Petrol tank and the rear differential. Completely redone advanced adjustable suspension from AVO, which completely changes the vehicles behaviour on road and off road. No more pitching and nose diving while braking and no more rolling and swaying when on the move. A much better ride. The real world fuel efficiency I am experiencing on the highways and toll roads in the plains is no more than 10-11kmpl. When driving in the hills like Ooty and the Nilgiris and Coorg and going off road etc this comes down to anywhere from 7-9kmpl. So it is indeed a nice guzzler. But the advantages in having such a vehicle as a ‘grand tourer’ for India, all at this kind of price and with this kind of capability, are absolutely enormous. Much much more than any other vehicle in fact, at this present moment. As I said before, this is just perfect for fearlessly traversing the length and breadth of India.

Wow. What a comprehensive owner review + the updates you have done.
Rightly said, it's a grand tourer with excellent pull from the motor even at triple digit speeds

@@BunnyPuniaVideos I find this vehicle at its best when driven at no more than 110kmph on the highways. It’s perfect comfort spot is 70-100kmph. If driven at these speeds it can cruise on and on and on for a long long time. No fatigue. No discomfort. And yes, better fuel efficiency.
