That is due to the fact that this song is an event track. “Visions of the Future” only interrupts field tracks, which is the category that the usual battle songs belong to.

Do you guys reckon Klaus, as the Architect and Alvis might have been able to talk to each other. Since Alvis seemed to be nearly as much a God as Zanza and in the end of Xenoblade 2 we hear Shulk's final line when striking down Zanza

Every character was more alive with facial expressions but the crazy eyes they gave Zanza were probably the most noticeable, dude looked legit insane and it was great

That moment when you realize that Shulk's self-destructive workaholic mentality that he put towards researching the Monado was the influence of Zanza and could have very well led to him becoming completely consumed by his own curiosity in what he didn't know were the affairs of the gods-exactly like Egil. Shulk’s friends were literally the only thing that saved him, which I feel ties in greatly with them helping to create the Monado 3.
What an amazing game this is.

Exactly! Egil is a dark reflection of Shulk -- the person Shulk would have become if he hadn't turned away from his path of vengeance.
@@ultrakleptomania I disagree. At the beginning of the game Dickson was encouraging Shulk to take a break from studying the Monado, which in my opinion is further evidence that Dickson really did care about Shulk at least somewhat.
And a reflection of Zanza himself. Under all of the hubris, all of the madness, was a man afraid to let go
Xenoblade has a habit of juxtaposing its main protagonists and anti-heroes like that. Shulk and Egil, Rex and Malos/Amalthus, Pyre/Mythra and Jin, Nia and Akhos...
The best thing is that Zanza, much like a lot of Xenoblade, is a subversion of JRPG tropes. You aren't fighting captital-G-God SMT-style, you're fighting a power drunk scumbag who used some machine so he can play god with people's lives who he literally considers lesser than bacteria; much like a kid torching ants with a magnifying glass. Which just about instantly makes you hate his guts.
I loved this subversion in the second game too, where you've been hearing about this divine figure (the Architect) during the whole game, just find he's nothing more than an old man full of regrets with no power whatsoever. He failed on his quest to become god and had to live with the consequences of his actions, while his other half saw the experiment as a success and became drunk with power.

Wouldn't call this a subversion at all, most JRPGs that have you "kill God" usually don't have you fighting that world's true creator. They are more often than not another god that usurped the title or a mortal who found a cool rock to get godlike powers.

Despite all the other enemies Shulk had to either put down or talked down, the fight with Dickson hurt him the most. So he is understandably livid about that in particular. If only zanza didn't exist, he wouldn't have had to go through that.

Egil: Yes, carried out the war between the Mechon and the Homs as well as stuck all the Homs that the Mechon had abducted into Face suits, but he feels that he has no choice and, much like Shulk, was driven by a lust for revenge, and vengeance tends to be a neverending cycle
Zanza: He wasn't crazy, he wasn't driven by revenge, he just wanted absolute control over the world, and it was his actions that allowed the horrid events to take place.

Zanza stole his theme, and he was like I'm going to "fix it," how _I_ like it. Zanza was imitating the real God all along, and he had to know he was never the one truly in control despite all the power he had. Why else be friends with alvis who was - as far as he knew and was concerned - incapable of betraying him? He had done nothing but help, but alvis proved over and over to be a manipulater and traitor. The lives and affairs of mortals being "beneath" him, Zanza thought he was safe from the same games, but he wasn't. Alvis played the long game, and zanza had no idea until alvis locked the two monado in place to power the third monado, and shulk killed him with it.
No, seriously, go back and look; Zanza can't move. the swords shift at an angle against his will. What's great about this is the powers going in matches the other two aegis's that are fighting in the other universe at that moment. Alvis was likely using the conduit to pull some of their residual power from the other side.

Does anyone else think it's cool that Zanza's name starts with the last letter of the alphabet and ends with the first? Kinda fits with his whole plan of destruction and recreation (he's the end and the new beginning).
Believe it or not, I think his name was kind of a mistranslation. It was supposed to be Xanthe, but I guess translation error happened or something and we got Zanza
Could also be a callback to Xenogears opening.
@@loganrussell3064 No, it wasn't a mistranslation, the name was intended to be Zanza from the beginning. The name is a reference to the "Alpha and Omega", the beginning and the end, because Zanza thinks he's the true creator of the world (of course he's wrong).
This symbology was used previously in Xenogears.
There's further symbolism of this with the fact he wants to keep a perpetual cycle of rebirth and destruction, and this is shown with the Monado 1 and 2 being in the shape of a musical note, as well as his wings and minions having music sheet symbolism, on top of those minions having LITERAL TREBLE CLEFFS for monados.
You could say that he wanted to repeat the same song and dance.

The theming of names also comes into play with Arglas, where he was the start of Zanza's release, and halfway through the story, he dies, as symbolized by the S being about halfway through the alphabet. This theming comes into further play if you take the note about Arglas dying halfway through with S and realize it was being used to symbolize Shulk becoming the new Zanza Host as soon as Arglas died, with Shulk's name starting with an S.

I actually fought the Rotbart right before the final boss as a test of my *ungodly rage against that bastard.* Surprisingly enough, the final boss was easier.

Let me tell you the amazing way I beat the game. In the final phase, Zanza, only like 10% hp left, summoned minions. I tried to kill them to get back to Zanza, however, the minions took down Dunban with the help of Zanza, and did the same to Riki. I just used a chain attack, but it was so small it didn’t fill up a party gauge. I was then alone, and realized it was all or nothing. So I ran up to Zanza with Shulk, my health quickly depleting, and finished the game with one art.
Monado Buster.
My party was Shulk, Reyn, Fiora. We flew through the battle, me getting pissed because he kept going into new phases that weren't much stronger
I now realise this was because I was in Casual Mode
I beat the game in the best way possible: With the beast.
I also beat it with Buster
Funny, my party was also Shulk, Riki, and Dunban. Riki's debuffs are so helpful for taking out the minions quickly and Dunban is great as an aggro tank to keep damage off of Shulk and Riki.

Despite not being the strongest enemy in the game, Zanza has collectively, the most Health of any enemy at 1,150,000 HP. When in his original form at Mechonis Core, he has 750,000.
Yeah, counting all three phases Zanza has more than the Avalanche Abaasy. Both of them have the same resistances to Topple locking too. That said, the superbosses are still harder because they're always red level.

As someone who mains riki, I really liked the fact that he was immune to every status effect. It made him feel way more divine, like "welp I'm a god so I can undo every one of your puny status effects".
I didn’t noticed even though Riki was in my party while fighting Zanza. I was too busy feeling the music while doing massive damage as offensive Reyn.
Melia’s status effects work tho…at least summon earth/poison. It was only way I won cuz it destroyed him 💀

I beat this game for the first time a few days ago. Definitive Edition of course. Seeing Zanza and Shulk square up like that before the guitar kicked in is now one of my favorite moments in all of gaming. And then the piano kicked in... my jaw DROPPED. This game is a Meynethdamn masterpiece, and should not go under the radar for any JRPG fan. The last time I played a JRPG that made me feel like this was when I played Tales of Symphonia for the first time. Oh yeah, go play that too!

I like how you said Meynethdamn instead of goddamn. There is only one goddess that is worth of such a title and she doesn't want to have it anymore on top of that.
Zanza is very similar to Yggdrasil/Mithos. This comparison becomes even more apt in Xenoblade 2.
@@MC_Danger_Noodle I think Xenogears is a bit too incomplete to hold up against modern Xeno games (I swear half of that dialogue is placeholder and several story arcs were flayed/cut out entirely due to either running out of time or running out of resources,) but it still has a great deal of heart and brilliance and is more than worthy of respect. It could really use a complete overhaul in many ways, though.
I'd love to see an in-depth remake that stays true to the original game's story and whatnot to great extent, but isn't afraid to completely redo some scenes, rewrite almost all the dialogue, and extend at least a good chunk of the "sitting on a chair narrating" segments into actual fleshed-out story arcs. Also, maybe brush away some of those controversial lines that don't make sense/don't need to be there/don't get the actual point across, like "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" and the lines early on that could easily be mistaken for anti-evolution propaganda to the layman's eye. These moments could both garner a great deal of hate for the game and inadvertently lend credibility to certain misinformation campaigns that plague our era.
It would be almost impossible to pull off, no doubt requiring as much time and resources as Xenoblade 2, Torna The Golden Country, and Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition combined, if not more, _but_ a sufficiently thorough and well-done loyal remake (same characters, same plot and plot twists, etc, but rewritten/expanded upon dialogue, streamlined mechanics, overhauled visuals) of Xenogears could be absolute perfection.
And yes, I do realize Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a loose retelling of Xenogears. I still think a more loyal remake of Xenogears would have potential. I'd still rather see Xenoblade 3 right now, though, but hey, maybe when they've finished all the stories they want to tell in the context of Xenoblade, the old favorites (Xenogears, Xenosaga - haven't played the latter yet tho so don't @ me if it doesn't need the level of reworking that Xenogears does) could get the overhauls they deserve.

I accidentally spoiled to myself that Zanza was going to be the final boss and main antagonist of the game. But I thought it was gonna be the Giant that was sealed on Prison Island. It turned out that wasn't Zanza at all, but rather a giant named Arglas being controlled by Zanza. I was not expecting Zanza to be a God and the soul of the Bionis incarnate. I wasn't expecting the Bionis to end up as the bad guy and the Mechonis just wanting to live in peace. Even when I thought I had spoiled myself, Xenoblade had so many plot twists that still managed to blindside me every step of the way.
Goddamn I love this game.

I had actually beaten XC2 before playing through XCDE, so as soon as I saw the space station I started freaking out a bit lol.
I also thought that them changing Alvis' key necklace to a core crystal in DE was just a cheeky little easter egg, like Malos wielding a Monado.
Nah lol it's all connected. Alvis is Ontos, and each of the Trinity Processor's core crystals manifest as a Monado.
This is exactly what happened to me back when I played the Wii version. I loved the music so I was just listening to the ost and I noticed this song was the final boss theme, so I knew Zanza was going to be the final boss. But I never would’ve imagined Dickson turning on you, the High Entia turning into Telethia, etc. this game is phenomenal
I didn’t look up any spoilers before playing this game (I never played the original, as I was too young), and let me tell you, I was THROWN into a ride with this game‘s story. I laughed, I cried, but I mostly said “WHAT IS GOING ON.” I absolutely loved it, and I’m really sad that my first experience with the game is over.😅
I just wished they gave some sort of foreshadowing of Zanza like Shulk meeting him in person or Zanza swinging by to save his ass once. It really felt like Zenza(blonde) came out of nowhere. It was more of a Shit ton of information instead of a "ooohhh shit why didnt i realize it sooner" twist. Those are the best kinds of twists not the "wtf is going on twist"

The Phantom Well that’s one of the main themes. The power “reserved only for god” actually exists inside of them. They too have the ability to change the world. Alvis/Monado appearing to them embodies this, as he is the closest thing the universe has to a “true god” (he’s modeled after the concept of the Monad from Gnosticism).

as soon as you see it's level it aggroes on you, and never got so scared like when when i aggroed territorial rotbart in xbc2 and saw it's level compared to my measly level 5 or 6. (Xbc2 was my first xeno game). Screaming why such a high level super boss was walking around so soon after pretty minimum story progress, all things considered

I’ve gotta be honest, I think this is the only JRPG I’ve ever played where when the story pivoted from the human antagonist to fighting a god it didn’t feel forced. The road to Zanza didn’t feel like mediocre content to pad playtime, it felt truly like this was what they were building to the whole time. Probably because Zanza’s entire plan was in your face the entire game you just didn’t have the context to realize it on top of the fact they hid it using a blatantly obvious plot twist with Mumkhar to draw the player’s attention away, which has got to be one of teh most creative moves I’ve seen in a game.

It’s good but it doesn’t get amazing until the guitar kicks in on the second phase. That slaps, but zanza the divine is amazing start to end

This line line sums up Zanza’s character in such a fantastic manner, it shows how little he thinks of mortal lives while conversely showing how highly he regards himself, never before have I experienced a story that displays the “arrogance of a creator” in such a stunning way.
Dunban himself comments on that. He even mentions that Zanza was trapped by mere High Entia on Prison Island, and Zanza bluffs, saying "I was merely... RESTING there, for a while..."
This game is perfect!!
It's so funny too, he can't live up to his own hype and he knows it but he keeps using bluster and shows of violence to try to convince you as well as himself. Makes for a great and megamaniacal villain.

This game is great, and even better after experiencing Xenoblade 2
Eh, Xenoblade 2 does character development and environments way better, in my opinion (well, newer console, duh). Also, I think the music is just a TAD better than Xenoblade 1. I cried more times than I can count during Xenoblade 2 from the music alone. But in terms of game design, XC1 is superior. The gacha system in 2 is infuriating. Hopefully I can get Elektra and Ursula once I get to NG+. Those precious little cinnamon rolls were huge reasons I got the game it the first place. :-( Also, Dalia's quest was so frustrating until I found the totally out-of-the-way ice bridge spot in a moment that made me feel incredibly stupid since I'm one to explore literally every nook and cranny.

The fact that the World Tree falls and Pneuma has to sacrifice herself, is not because Rex defeated Malos, but because Shulk defeated Zanza in another dimension is food for thought, and definitely fits the Xenoblade 2's overarching theme of forgiveness, letting go, and most relevantly, of not blaming yourself for things that aren't your fault :(

@@DelanoSeven7 Idk about the original commenter but my team for the Dickson fight was fiora, dunban, and sharla. For the first phase of zanza it was the same as the dickson fight, and the other two phases were shulk, dunban, and sharla
