How to Build a 12 Volt 21AH 18650 Lithium Battery for Under $30

- In my quest to find cheap options for my electric vehicle batteries I came across these nice little hard plastic case battery holders. My plan is to gang together as many of these as needed for my various off highway vehicles. In this video I show how to build a 21 amp hour 12 volt lithium battery using 18650 cells. Nice little water proof case, nickel strips, and BMS board are all included for just $5. You may want to use thicker nickel strips if your going to be pulling high amps. I added a balancing connector so I can verify the BMS board is working.

I have tried a lot of different spot welders and most didn't work or last long. The one I am using now is:

I like your video very much but what should be include is the places to buy the batteries in the link. The prices have changed but if a link was included it would help steer people in the right direction. for example TEMU has 12 18650 batteries for $14.48 with free shipping for orders over $30. Usually the problem is with the high cost of shipping. Your video is still valid with this small increase calculated in. Again the video is good in it's presentation and many people are haveing problems finding cost effective energy sources for projects. The cost has gone up because of the hysteria of batteries exploding and mainly it's the transportation costs. Companies etc... are taking advantage of a few tragic events for greater profit and many are paying for the higher cost of products. This is very sad and it seems to be sad trend in our societies that want immediate changes to a minority of tragic events. They often forget about being reasonable in forcing these situations which causes others to take advantage. Most batteries are pretty safe for example, it's only a small fraction of cell phones that have exploded etc... and just about everyone I know has a cell phone.
Yes shipping can definitely be a problem. I buy mostly used batteries from batteyhuckup.com I've had good luck with the batteries out of medical equipment because they only get used when the power goes out (not many cycles). The box came from aliexpress, they sell a lot of different sizes but this one was only $5.

It's my everyday commuter, doing great. I only drive a few miles at a time thou. I'm going to change out the battery soon and post a new video with the performance difference.
@@ElectricOHV are you still running the battery you built for it? I’m putting the qs138 on an old cr125 so it should get similar performance
@@lanceam24 Yes, the very first battery I built has work so well I haven't needed to change it out yet. That's over a year! They have stayed well matched to. Only charging to 4.1 volts and don't go down below 3.6. With that said I only work a few mile from my house so maybe 20 miles between charges. You can never have too much battery, build the biggest thing you can fit.
Could you recommend a solar panel and charge controller to charge this battery?
I hope to post videos about charging soon. There are so many chargers on the market these day that will work. Just about any hobby charger will work
Aliexpress sells every size you could want for really cheap. I have been using a couple of $10 42V2A chargers on my enduro for over a year now without any issues. you can by the 12.6V2A version for this application.

Solar is another thing with a lot of options. It's mostly figuring out the math. A 50watt panel should give you close to 4 amps in full sun light. I have 3x250watt panels on my trailer connected to 2 large deep cycle batteries. I can run all the 12 volt charges from that without too much drain.
@@ElectricOHV Thank you so much! I've just starting learning about batteries as I inherited four 12V deep cells (wet) as part of a solar power system. The system works well but I a way to have a couple of 12V backup batteries that are not part of the system, just in case I lose power and need a way to charge my phone, etc. Or as way to charge something without having to run back to the power shed.

How is that under a $30? Like one battery costs abt $7 and you got abt 21 batteries that's $147 only for batteries
