The way Beth Gibbons pours her heart and soul into every note is just mesmerizing. The atmosphere, the vibe, everything about this performance is pure artistry... i think she unintentionally made smoking look cool
Not really. There's probably a VH1 or MTV vid about them at the time. This live performance actually have a docu-style behind the scenes, sortof. My take is that older videos captured at the time captures the spirit of that time better.

A lot of metal bands just do blast beats, grind on the guitar and have singers that al sound the same. I don't really listen to much metal for that reason but the bands I do listen to experiment a lot and get shit on for it.
As someone who was young and alive during this era, I can't express how sentimental the audience scenes from 4:35 onwards, are. As an old fart, I lament the fact that everyone (including me) are recording concerts with their phones. Seeing the crowd just focused on the band, performance and music, is definitely something to feel nostalgic about. That said, if I had the ability to capture this performance back in the day, I would have. No hate from this Gen-X'r...just looking back, is all

to me this is by far the superior version :) I never thought "Glory Box" is their very best song in the studio version BUT in this live one it is totally a candidate. the strings are SO good here and her voice - no words. probably one of the best live performances I've ever seen.
daniel wilson agree to disagree, while this is an amazing performance and portishead is awesome Jerry is an all time great songwriter and Layne was one of the best singers ever, even in bad health he was top notch, nothing beats the masterful vocal harmonizing in that performance for me. Also just my opinion while portishead is an great group with a lot of great music AiC was playing a lot Of legendary iconic Shit that surpasses almost everything portishead has done. Nothing wrong with liking this performance for but for me AiC unplugged gets the edge forsure
That's not what I remember from the 90s. Lol I'd argue that people were more vain and picky about their looks back then. If you were fat, a minority, or had imperfections of any kind on your face, you were pretty much done for.
