    Posh doors. Things have definitely changed. How many wardrobes did I do like that when in UK. None. Got to Oz and every new build had wardrobes done like that. And even doing renos. We often retro fit them in. So pretty much been doing exactly that for 25 years. You can get pre made kit doors and make opening to suit. But not generally done. We just build the opening to whatever fits in the space. Ring up the door mob and give them the sizes. Doors are made up to measure. Often supply and fit. Occasionally I will fit but often dearer for me to do the install than the guys who fit hundreds. They sometimes make it that way too. If they just do a drop off all the sundries are missing. When you ring up for them the reply is always. Our fitters will have them on their van. If you are fitting you can pick up the parts. Where I live that can be a 3 hour round trip. Or more. We can get them in paint grade. Finish pattern. Or mirror. Certainly makes doing big cupboards easy.

      Hi Dave🖐I've only done a couple of jobs with these kind of doors now, and they are certainly quick and very simple to fit👍I like the sound of having them made to whatever size you make the opening, and I think that would make things even quicker/easier🤔Thanks for your comment bud, and for watching😎Cheers Del

    Have you tried the Fischer Duopower plugs Del? I’ve not used them myself (yet) but they look a cracking versatile wall plug. They were recommended by a few plumbers on here. Not as cheap as your classic brown/red plugs but the potential time saved by getting a secure fixing first time more than likely negates the cost difference.
    Also, Howdens own brand grab adhesive is really good if you haven’t already used it, about £3 per tube. Not like the hard stuff in gripfill tubes.

    Hi Del, as a carpenter, how do you manage the balance between carefully planning a job to avoid mistakes and completing it within a reasonable time frame to satisfy customers? Is there a general guideline or rule of thumb for how much time you spend on planning and thinking about a job say out of every hour worked you spend 20 percent thinking 80 percent doing? And do you also spend time after work reflecting on the job and planning for the next day and if so how much time?

    • @thetallcarpenter
      @thetallcarpenter  Před rokem +2

      Hi fella🖐That's a great question, and not something I've stopped to think about🤔I get slated a lot in my comments that it looks like I'm taking too much time to do things and in the 'real world' wouldn't make any money, when in reality, I am known for being very efficient and completing a lot of work and this is partly down to knowing when to stop for a moment to make a plan, rather than just ploughing on and hoping for the best🤞 I guess the answer to your question is that I don't keep an eye on how long it takes me to plan a job out, and it takes as long as it takes, and fortunately for me, the small amount of customers I do work for are more than happy with the standard and volume of my work as well as how much I charge 👍 (I know that many carpenters earn way more than me, but I'm happy with my set up and always busy🤩) Cheers Del

  • @MarcGray1990
    @MarcGray1990 Před rokem +1

    Great video. Quick question does this sliding rail kit suite 40mm ply flush doors. We do a lot of sliding doors on a social housing estate and we use Henderson rail kit but the bottom just uses 2 crappy plastic guides which aren’t very durable. Had many break off with use. On the lookout for a decent track kit to switch to. All the doors we use are metric sizing on the estate so have to make our frames from scratch a lot of the time.

    • @thetallcarpenter
      @thetallcarpenter  Před rokem +1

      Hi Marc🖐I'm pretty sure the running gear on these doors is made specially for the way the doors are made, and I couldn't see a way of using it on a 'normal' door🤔Obviously, the best functioning and reliable sliding door gear is usually pretty expensive🤑Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del

    • @MarcGray1990
      @MarcGray1990 Před rokem +1

      @@thetallcarpenter no worries Del thanks for letting me know. Things become a pain when the floor threshold is not level nor the head of the frame. Which is 9 times out of 10 for us in 50 odd year old properties. Tweak the door here and there and eventually you get them running smooth! If you can imagine a plastic guide on the hardwood threshold which is 20mm thick held in by two small screws they ain’t the best. If only they were metal they would be much better. Anything for the manufacturers to make them cheap as possible. 😬
