So I got a new lens. I absolutely love it. Make sure to stick to the end to see a small film I made with it.
The rokinon 85mm ef mount if a perfect lens for the Gh5. It has great range, wonderful subject separation and the bokeh is fantastic! With the Ex Tele function on the camera, it nearly replaces a 70-200, which is amazing sine this lens is so tiny and light! I highly recommend the lens to anyone! It's hard to beat at $300.

That was barely graded, those were the colors that night. I live in an area where sunsets csn get like that. Sorry if you think it's cheap!

Just ordered one. I ordered the more expensive 85mm. Can’t wait to play....
Folks, if you want this for portraits and interviews etc, makes sure to get the cannon one and an adaptor for mft. Cos otherwise its the equivilent of a 170mm telephoto lense on MFT - unless I am making a total newbie mistake! But Ive sent mine back to get the cannon one as cudnt make it work for interviews.

Thanks! Glad it could help you out! I use a hoya 77mm variable ND. I'd recommend the tiffen tho!

Loved the b roll. I was thinking I was going to get that kind of footage with the 42.5mm f1.7, but after looking at this I might be getting this one instead
Yeah its because its got metabones xl as well. So it gets some really good shallow dof and low light performance :D
@@DanielPeacocke I found a MFT version of the Rokinon 85mm F1.4, it seems it won't need a speedbooster or addapter, so I wonder how much of a difference would that make on the sunset shots
So because its an mft version, you x2 the focal length and aputure. It becomes a 170mm f2.8. With the speed booster XL its a 109mm f1.8. So its closer to an actual 85mm and you get a shallower dof and more light let in :)
Hey Daniel, thanks for sharing man. I have a GH5 and am wondering what you think about using the m4/3 version vs canon version w/ a metabones speed booster?
I prefer using the canon version with the speedbooster for sure. Gives you more of an actual 85mm look, extra stop of light, and shallower dof! The extra stop of light and the lens being 1.4 makes it crazy good in low light!

I think the $399 one is the newer version, and then there is another for like $300. I don't think there is much difference between the two! The newer one may be a bit sharper, but other than that, they're pretty much equal I believe!

Hi Daniel. I have a question. Could i use "Viltrox EF-M2 Electronic Adapter F Booster 0.71x" instead of metabones with this Rokinon lens or Samyang SY85M-C 85mm F1.4?
Yep! You can! A lot of people go that rout! Apparently it's pretty much the same so I would say go for it :)

Did you get it to work Vicheth? As with my viltrox I get a missing lens error code whenever I try to connect manual lenses. I have to use tape in order to get it to work.
Were you using a stabilizer or gimbal? If so how did you get the focus to work for you since I currently use a gimbal but always run it on auto focus because focusing it is almost nearly impossible while moving. Thanks! Great video by the way.
I shot this all hand held with the GH5 which has awesome ibis! When I do use my gimbal, I set focus on a subject and then maintain that distance from them to keep in focus :)

Ive used a G7 before which is a great little camera! I think either choice you will get good results. The gh5 will offer a lot more tho! Its a monster.

Is the viltrox Ef m2 adapter compatible with a sigma 18-35 mm lens connecting to a Panasonic GH5? Will that work? Would they all work?
Yes, the ef to micro 4/3 viltrox adapter works with the 18-35. It works with any ef mount lens
what do you think about the Samyang/Rokinon 85/F1.4 AF for Canon (+ Viltrox adapter EF-M2)? Is that the same lens of the T1.5 manual version + AF feature (except no diaphragm control)? Could the AF help for fast focusing? I'm evaluating to buy an used one.
Yeah its the same but with AF. It just depends on if you like to use AF or not. Either one is a great lens!
The AF version will be better for photos too

I was thinking it could be a good compromise to take that AF lens: if I want to stay manual for video, I could set the AF off (and, even in that case, it is possible to manually touch-to-focus on the display). I know that I will have to give up manual control over the diaphragm, operating only electronically from the GH5.
If I should take photos, I think the AF could help a lot on a very fast lens like that!
On the other hand, having the possibility to use even a Sony A7 III, I hope to be able to mount the same Canon attach lens with an MC-11 adapter; it won't perform as well as the native model for E mount (for Eye detection, continuous tracking, etc.) but I think it could work. What do you think about?

I just got that 85mm with the 4/3 mount so it gives me a 170mm.... his there a reducer to bring it down to a 85mm on my G85 .... ? thanks

I had the original I think. I dont there theres too much of a difference at all between the two from what I have seen :)

hi!i have bought today a Nikon Samyang T 1,5/85 AS IF UMC II.i have a gh5 but when i use it i see that is very very soft!i use wide apertures(until 2.8).it is not sharpness...you have the same results?also i where you have ''stop '' the aperture of the speed booster so you can use the d-clic aperture of the lens?please give me your opinion and knowledge.thanks

Hello everyone!
I have a common issue with my viltrox EF-M2 on my GH5: it says "lens attachment failed" when I try to use a Samyang 85mm Cine lens with it. I tried to tape the golden pins on the viltrox and also tried on the lens directly, but in both cases I managed to make it work for a few seconds no more, most of the time I get a black screen. I'm guessing I'm not taping it right, or something like that. Anyway I'm trying to work around that issue as I'd like to purchase a 85mm samyang. If you had a similar problem with the viltrox and you could fix it, your help will be much appreciated!

I've heard of a few people having the same issue with their viltrox adapters. I haven't had any of these issues with the metabones myself, so I have no experience I can share unfortunately :( In another video of mine, someone mentioned taping over the flat brass connectors on his viltrox, not the pins. So maybe give that a shot? Let me know if it works out!
Why didn't you buy the Micro - Four - Third Mount ...if you use the GH5...you have to use an adapter...!
Yeah! I use the metabones XL. It gives me more FOV and lets in over a stop more light, as well as giving me a shallower depth of field. I use all EF mount lenses for my GH5 :)
What will be the best lens for an police interrogation room scene? 85mm or 50mm? Over the shoulder shot.

What focal length set up should this be at on the gh5 when putting on for first time??
Will this lens work well with the BMPCC 4K?
If you get the mft version it will work with no adapters. However i suggest getting a speedbooster and the ef version of the lens. Itll be closer to full frame 85, have a shallower depth of field and more light let in

Hmmm. Its a manual focus lens, so I know AF wont work, but not sure whats happening if the manual focus wont work! :O I'll let you know if I figure anything out

They suggest using the ultra if you're mainly going to use crop lenses, like the 18-35. But I went with the XL because it lets more light in, gives a shallower dof, and a wider field of view :) I havent notic much, if any vingnetting either!
Also the rokinon 85 is a full frame lens, so it works perfectly on the XL

Is it very hard to nail focus on for example portraits with an mft camera and focus peaking?
I dont have focus peaking yet and without it...focusing at 1.4 is a nightmare ^^
Nope! The focus assist features on the GH5 make nailing your focus so easy!!

How about sharpnes and chromatic aberations?
It gets a bit sodt with a few aberations wide open at 1.4, but not bad at all! Specially for the price and the fact that it gets to 1.4!

If you have an mft 85mm you have to double the focal length, so it would be around 170mm

Hey dan! i have a question, i also have the gh5 with metabones xl and that lense. Whenever i open the lense to its max aperture 1.5, it causes some purple fringing, is there any way to avoid this?
I think is a think with rokinon lenses. Mine does the same :( But my Sigme 18-35 doesnt

If you get tje EF version, yeah. But you can get a M43 version of the lens too! I have the EF version and use the metabones.

Yeah the one I have is the EF version. So you need either a viltrox or metabones to use it. They do make an mft version, but I prefer the ef.

How does this lens perform with stills?
It's manual focus and aperture. But if you're fine with that, the image is wonderful!

Not really! I have no complaints at all. I think it makes it sharper actually.

Unfortunately you can't get a focal reducer for the m43 version. Youd neet to get an ef version and a metabones or viltrox adapter:)
