I think Jimmy Kimmel is actually pleasant-looking, even if in a weird sort of way that goes well with his self-deprecating humour. This was heartbreaking to watch, I wish his family and anyone struggling with a similar disease the best.

The issue occurs if someone has lifelong problems that ARENT life or death, or are extremely hard to get like transplant surgery.

3.14159265359 The badness of American healthcare is grossly exaggerated. It really isn't all too bad. College kids who are majoring in women's studies think there is a bigger problem here with it than it is.
I believe you're mistaken. Hospitals are only required to give critical life saving treatment. No hospital or doctor is required to give ongoing care to a chronically ill patient, like Jimmy's son. Heart disease is a chronic illness.
We are still one of the richest nations on earth and we shouldn't have to worry if our kids can get a free lunch at school, get life saving surgery or get the education we need. Especially when the president is blowing money left and right on golf and his wife and son's Secret Service protection because they don't want to live in the White House.
He's already spent more money on golfing trips than the government was spending on Meals on Wheels. He had no problem cutting the funds to that.
It's very hard to see so many in need.

Well, we just save their life and then we spend whatever YEARS it takes to pay the bills. It isn't even an option. You just do the right thing and then deal with the consequences later. It's just the only option really. Happy for Jimmy it all worked out. What a horrific thing to go through right after having the best moment of your life with having a son to the absolute worst moment having to wonder if you'll lose your baby. It's pretty special seeing Jimmy have a real human moment and share that with millions.

I haven't seen this in years, but it made me cry then and it made my cry again. Jimmy is right about everyone having medical care. The US spends so much on military and space and yet will not give healthcare to their own people.

I was pregnant the same time molly was, I had my son in October of 2017. He was born with a blockage in his intestines that required surgery right after birth. It’s called duodenal atresia. My baby was in the nicu for 2 months. The worst and most emotional time in my life, but now he is a healthy toddler.

Dr. Starnes save my father’s life twice. He had an aortic aneurysm and then again 10 years later had another aortic aneurysm. He also did surgery on Arnold Schwarzenegger. We are so grateful he we got him because we are normal people and he is a surgeon rockstar!

I recently had a life threatening bowel bleed and I appreciate all the help of the whole staff! Sent a sparkly card, hope they got it.
Doctors and nurses do not get the recognition they deserve. When I had to have a major surgery and was in the hospital for a week, I sent flowers and some chocolates to the nurses who took care of me all day and night. My day nurse and night nurse and my surgeon. These people spend hours and hours on their feet helping people. A thank you is the least we can do.

Yes I believe that humbled his life quite a bit.
Hospital employees are angels on Earth. I know because I work in the Dietary Department of my local hospital; even though employees in Dietary, Housekeeping, and Maintenance are considered "behind the scenes" employees we are just as important as the doctors and nurses. Employees in Dietary have a responsibility to properly feed the staff, employees and visitors. Housekeepers have a responsibility to keep the patient rooms clean and sanitary and maintenance workers have a responsibility to make sure the electricity and plumbing are functioning properly.

I understand Jimmy Kimmel is remarried but he has kids that all grown up. At his age he should be a grandfather! He can’t be raising little kids in his 50s at that age he should be a grandfather!
I had a similar heart condition and had surgery at 5 days old. 25 years later and I'm healthy with zero limitations. Healthcare should be available to everyone

I understand that he’s remarried but does he really be raising teenagers young adults in his 60’s and 70’s. And that age I’d want grandchildren.
I had a similar condition when I was born and had an open heart surgery when I was 2 months old. I’m 23 and healthy now 🙏🏼

There's another person in the top comments that had a child with this defect and he unfortunately passed away, and she donated his heart to medical research. That was about 25 years ago. You may be alive today due to that person's impossible and selfless act in most likely the hardest time in their life. My youngest daughter was a NICU baby and grew up to be a beautiful young woman who was an Elementary School Music teacher. She was killed by a drunk driver this past August and her heart was not viable for donation, but she was able to donate her heart valves for babies and children. She continues to give even now. Hugs.

I have Tetralogy of Fallot with two open heart surgeries. I’m 29 and now pregnant with a baby girl due in two months. It’s rough but you can live a happy life.
It is a rare person who can not only share something so immensely and intensely personal, but at the same time remember to thank those who helped him and his family, educate about Tetralogy of Fallot, inform the public about the threats to adequate funding of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and stand up for the important of ensuring that people are not denied health insurance due to pre-existing conditions, all the while making a Matt Damon wisecrack. As a pediatrician, I'm in awe of how much good he managed to fit into 14 minutes of airtime.

Hey Jimmy I'm 16 years old and I was born with the same condition your son Billy has. This video was great and reminded me that I'm not the only one with this condition. I really hope the this video spread awareness to heart conditions. Now after 16 years I'm healthy and I'm still super lazy.

Yes it can affect you when playing sports or doing any physical activity from personal experience becuse I was born with the same thing it's harder for me to keep up but once I rest after about 30 seconds I can start up again. Hope that answers your question

I have the same heart condition and am 17 years old, so I think it's safe to say his son's going to live just as long, hopefully even longer.

My little boy had bone cancer. It was very complicated, the treatment prolonged and unusual. I live in Australia, and the only time I had to find money was for the extra therapies, massage, osteopathy, things like that. The surgeries, hospitals, medicines, chemo drugs... everything that meant saving his life was paid for by our wonderful collective health insurance system. He may have died if we were American. Collectivised medicine is worth fighting for.

Jimmy, I had nearly the same experience when my son was born in 1991. He had a slightly different defect the entire thing was the same. We were in SF Bay Area. He had the same Surgeon! He was at Stanford Children's hospital. An amazing man. Thank God. My son just turned 31 BTW. So glad your son and family are well. God bless.

Hey jimmy. I was born with the same heart disease and shouldnt suposed to live more than 8 weeks. But here I am. A 30 years old man, 1,80 mts tall, 85 kgs, lawyer, healthy as a horse (maybe even better) and doing things that my parents and doctors never thought I would do (climbing, diving, swimming with sharks, and so).

Well said brother ! I feel the same. I am an atheist too and know that prayers do not work. But if someone close to me requests me to pray for someone suffering, I will do so becoz I love them. This wont solve the problem though. In order to get it solved, I will simply rely on the doctors of this world and believe in their ability to change lives.
So my girlfriend has the same heart disease and also got a surgery right after her birth. Today she is 20 years old and lives a normal life. Of course, she has to go to special Doctors every 6 month for check ups and had different surgeries over the past years. But all in all it's really fine thanks to modern medicine. All support to Jimmy and his family, i believe everything will be fine.
