I can honestly say that Billy will grow up to be a happy healthy little boy. My brother is now in his early 60's, father of three and grandfather of five. God bless you all and the medical staff at Cedars-Sinai. In fact, Cedars-Sinai is the very hospital they did the surgery. Mr. Kimmel you are in very good hands.

While not as serious as Jimmy's baby, but my son was born with hip dysplasia (first born, male, breach... the three most common conditions for it and he nailed them all). It was his nurse that spotted the issue only about fifteen minutes after he was born (the amount of time it took to get him from the O.R. to recovery). Because it was detected so quickly, we were able to get a pediatric orthopedist to see him quickly and was able to correct the problem early on.
HUGE props to nurses! I'm not biased though.... my wife is a nurse ;)

Gerard Deane I'm not saying that what they do is less valuable or important, because it isn't. What I am saying is that there are hundreds of thousands of doctors in the US but only a couple hundred that can endure and excel in the brutal game of football or have the ability to lead a franchise into tentpole status. lionel messi is paid millions of euros per year because he is one of the top players in the world. he is virtually irreplaceable. you can't say the same about most doctors. yeah there is perhaps only 1 who can do a specific procedure but for the most part this isn't the case

Entertainers receive small amounts of money from millions of people. Medical professionals receive a large amount of money from hundreds or thousands of people through their insurance company. Pay is not determined by what is just or fair, but by what the market is willing to pay for the value of the good or service. If the medical field paid just as well as the entertainment field, more people would enter the market and drive down the cost of care. Obviously you can't put a price on life or health, but it can't be zero nor can it be infinite.
At the end of the day you should pursue a field that makes you happy/fulfilled. Someone who goes into the medical field for money alone will not be happy and probably give poor care to patients.

    “It’s a team sport”
As a nurse, I’ve noticed that every great Doctor has always said that, in some form. Truly, the whole peri-operative experience would not be possible without the vital work of each and every team member, including the cleaning, maintenance, and dietary staff. We can’t do it without each other.

The dislikes could be from Dr. Oz missing the few other key characteristics of tertalogy of fallot. The reason why Billy was blue (cyanotic) and the seriousness of the tertalogy of fallot is the pulmonary stenosis due to an overriding aorta. This means the lungs are not or getting highly reduced amounts of deoxygenated blood. This also means the amount of left side blood (the red in the picture) is extremely diminished. Thus the heart is practically circulating mostly if not all deoxygenated blood and not a life-sustaining amount of oxygenated blood. Tertalogy of Fallot is a very serious condition and Billy will have more surgeries to come as Jimmy had said. They will, later, need to fix the sizes of the artery openings of both the aorta and the pulmonary artery from the heart back to normal as well as adjust the sizes of both semilunar valves that control the flow of blood going out of the heart. I hope everything goes well Jimmy

My sister (now 37) has Tetralogy of Fallot. Back in the early '80s it took three open-heart surgeries to correct by the time she was 5 yrs old. My mother still speaks fondly of the nurses that helped them along the way.
But even then, they said a lot of ToF kids appeared sickly and/or didn't live to be 18. We've sure come a long way over the past few decades.
