It hurts my heart you don't have 10 times the subscribers you have. Please subscribe people, a click is cheap
Very kind! Feel free to spread the word ;-) I'm about on track for a 2-year old channel though. The 9-Bit Guy and LGRrrr have been going 11+ years... Slow but steady... My goal is 100K and that CZcams plaque :-D Which I will try not to drop and smash on camera...
It's going very quickly compared to 99% of the channels out there man.. 100k will come. So will 500k
.... 72k subs is pretty damn good.
IKR!
For the nerdstalgia niche, this is the best channel out there. Only issue is it’s niche. I have no doubt this channel could do mainstream material and get even bigger, but Peri does it for the love of the game. The man needs a federal grant.
1:55 - That lady definitely lied about her diving ability during the audition
Probably didn't want to bump her head on the bottom of the pool...
She didn't know where her diving was going, let alone Commodore.
Ladyfractic ... better diver and better looking ;)
I was literally going to comment the same, but in a much less funny way. Absolutely brutal dive!
I’ve looked at that commercial quite a few Time and it only hit me this time around that het dive was sub-par
My mom worked at AT&T and got me a SX-64 used from a developer friend at work for Christmas when I was 13.
I absolutely love it and it’s still in mint condition and works perfectly.
Very cool video. 👊🏻👌🏻
Fact: "Are You Keeping Up With The Commodore" is one of the greatest pop songs ever written. Well, for a commercial at least.
I love the use of "Fact:" 😂
Oh great 😡 now i’ve got that super catchy “are you keeping up with the Commodore” song in my head all week. 😂
Imagine how I feel editing this for a week!
It's even better on a real C64: czcams.com/video/0-R6OwhPFdk/video.html
(sorry)
Not as catchy as "only Amiga...makes it possible!"
@@OperationPhantom This is amazing! I'm definitely going to seek permission to use this in future!
@@RetroRecipes I'm thinking of using it as my ringtone :D
You are the nicest couple on earth and your videos are so interesting and relaxing.... It's like peeping into another world which is safe, friendly and non hectic. Thank you!
Thank you so much 🤗
These are ultra rare and valuable in he history of Commodore computers, and this is seriously the best computer restoring job i have seen yet. Great job and thanks for doing this!
Thank you for your kind words! Means a lot 👍🕹️
He does do great work doesn't he. If I could afford the shipping costs I'd hire him to restore the first laptop we ever owned a Dell Inspiron 1300 (That I'm now third owner of)
A friend from our club has 2.
I have two. Or had, I think I sold one. I never thought they were rare.
I would never admit it at the time, but I was always slightly envious of commodore kit. I had a spectrum then an ST and was obsessed, but always secretly coveted a c64 and later an Amiga. There was just something so chunky and awesome about them.
A camera inside your dishwasher! Now that's commitment to your art!
Say cheese! I mean... clean the cheese!
How do you make Welsh cheese?
Caerphilly.
@@londongaz2 🤦♂️
My Father brought one these home in 85? What a great machine! But we ended up hooking up a monochrome monitor to it as were were going crosseyed trying to play games on the little screen :)
Awesome video as always! It still amazes me how much effort you put in every single part of your work on these machines.Amazing job Peri! Thumbs up for this man guys, he deserves a statue in the Commodore museum!!!!
Thank you! Cheers! Then I really will be keeping up(right) with Commodore! Badum-tsh..
The recreation of the advert=genius.
Awesome to see how amazing things you can do with DIL-based tech.
You are a brave man to have it ANYWHERE near that pool....
This must be one of the most underrated (i.e. undersubscribed) channels on CZcams. Great content Chris, as always!
Wow thank you!! Slowly but surely...
Great video as usual!
Also looks like Puppyfractic was really worried about Ladyfractic being underwater, and was telling her to never ever do that again, when she surfaced 😃
British Innuendo is strong with this one... Well done!
27:19 - The view of the SX-64 by the pool is glorious, but I was having an anxiety attack just looking at the way it's sitting so close the edge of that flimsy looking table which itself was standing so close to the pool as I was expecing Puppyfractic to start jumping around!
(who needs commas?)
Same. I was just scanning the comments wondering if anybody else was hyperventilating imagining Puppy knocking the finished product into the pool!
@@TheTimLara Yeah - me too!!
Imagine how I felt! But I had to get that money shot. Don't worry, puppyfractic isn't the type to bolt like a horse & it was actually pretty stable 🐴
It gave me a mini anxiety attack as well. I knew it was going to be ok but man my lizard brain was having none of that.
@@RetroRecipes hay, I steed what you did there.
Awesome sx-64 + lovely doggy + super fit wife = good times! Another brilliant video!
The production quality of your videos is really great. I enjoy the content for the retro computing details, but also the humor! Very nicely done.
Thank you for your kind words! Means a lot 👍🕹️
I just discovered your channel I’ve never seen you before and I spend most of my days (for the past 10 years) watching CZcams electronics or woodworking videos. So glad to find your channel because I really enjoy troubleshooting videos… Although I have no interest in retro computing… I restore a lot of vintage and modern test equipment and industrial electronics stuff… And I’m a sucker for a good long format component level troubleshooting videos. And your channel is great for that!
The SX-64 was my first computer!!! This is wonderful!!!
AND you got Ghostbusters running on it!!! Brilliant!!!
Another great video. The only thing that could make this channel better is 2 episodes spread out a week so one wouldnt have to wait so long for the Commodore fixes fixed by fixes 👍
I've definitely considered that but the quality would reduce. This video took about 8 days. That said, if you want more content, patreon is an option. 😉 perifractic.com/patreon
You said, "lubricate the shaft" many more times than strictly necessary...
😁
Brilliant job restoring the SX-64, plus never get tired of the poolside modelling!!
The final result nearly made me cry! Thanks!
Oh sorry about that!
I kept up with the Commodore from 1985 to 1994; at which point Commodore couldn't keep up with me. ♥ COMMODORE FOREVER!! ♥
Lol good point
Turned out really nice, it looks brand new!
When my grandmother upgraded to a Commodore 128, I was given her SX-64 as a hand-me-down. In 1991, the screen went dead, and without a proper monitor it was pretty well unusable, and I ended up getting a 386 clone as a replacement right before starting college. Don't think I don't kick myself regularly now for letting the old SX-64 end up in a landfill when it was probably just a blown capacitor or fuse! This computer was a big part of my childhood, its where I first learned basic programming, and your restoration of that one looks lovely now.
I was thrilled to see that you successfully filmed INSIDE your dishwasher. Then, all of a sudden your soundtrack improved drastically. The persistant inclusion of your lovely wife's screwdriver sound effects is also a great measure of enhancement. I am pleased. Thank you for your glorious work.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Outstanding job Peri! You put my own SX-64 refurb to shame 😭. Now I gotta put my handle in the dishwasher. I’m very glad you didn’t have keyboard issues. What a pain it was for me to fix. Anyway, the SX-64 is a really neat machine and I’m very lucky to have gotten one for a great price. I wish they made a portable 128 similar to an SX-64. That would’ve been my all time favorite retro computer.
My dad still has SX-64. Fond, fond memories of playing Ultima IV on that thing.
Great work with the restauration!
The attention to detail really makes this refurb a joy to behold. It looks like it could of just come off the production line. A bit of time and effort certainly pays off without doubt. 3D printing is the way to go.
Absolute bliss, watching this after being bombarded with non stop bad news in rainy England. You have a new patron!
Thank you so much Damian!! Welcome to the Perifracteam 👍🕹️
i love the "space 1999" feel to it
Someone was inside that machine - normally the storage tray is also screwed in on the CRT side, too, and you cannot get to it or the drive without removing the CRT. I left the screw out after cleaning mine, too to make it easier to access in the future.
What a lovely machine.
Interesting!
This may be my favourite video of yours so far mate! Nicely done!
Thank you!! And to think they said it would be all downhill from the Star Wars arcade video... ;-)
@@RetroRecipes Yeah excellent video as usual. Lots of talent required in various domains to get a video like this made. (comedy, artistic/creative skills, engineering, tooling, etc...)
@@MarkRijckenberg Thank you for your kind words. Means a lot! 👍🕹
Another superb job mr Fractic and the doggy agrees :)
Lady Fantastic made up for the whole commodore add "dive" in the end, for the first time I can now see why...brilliant !! love it :-D
Such a satisfying refurb.. Great production too. 😊
I was giving the goldfish a manicure 😂😂 and great job
"Why are there fish scales on my nail file"?
@@SidebandSamurai "Why are there fish nails on my scale file?"
Man I always wanted a SX64 when I was a kid, I don’t know why but I did.
god i loved that tune. even as a 47 year old it brings back good memories.
Insanely jealous that you were gifted such a fantastic machine. And I'm so glad it fell into your hands! Great video.
Thanks to CZcams for suggesting this channel.... SUBSCRIBED
I was mesmerized by the dishwasher segment at 09:15 ... whoosh, whoosh, whoosh ...
Glad you liked it! I had a hard time getting in there to film but with a bit of yoga practice I made it.
Props to Ladyfractic rockin that bikini!!!! I may be an old 80’s computer nerd, but I know beauty when I see it!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Ladyfractic sure did a much more elegant dive than the girl in the 80's TV spot!
...reinforcing the notion that we are a preselected group of Geezers With Taste :-)
As at 30Oct22, the 20 seconds from 28:28 to 28:48 now has a viewing time FOUR TIMES higher than the median view time for the rest of the video. 🤣
Great job! This is surely the best 8-bit machine ever made. I'm so lucky to have two of them in pristine condition. One comes from financial department from Commodore Sydney office! So, they were used for real work.
Ladyfractic could definitely teach diving to the 80s Commodore girl in the ad.
THAT SONG IS A LEGIT BANGER!!
That dishwasher cam was brilliant! As usual, fantastic job of restoring an old computer (and great recreation of that Commodore commercial). You can definitely keep up with the Commodore.
Great to see someone that cares enough to keep our computer history alive.Keep safe "Family Frantic"
You guys are the most perfect couple in the universe. Stay awesome.
It's incredible how much a sped up Dremel sander sounds like Ladyfractic :D Great video BTW :)
A worthy rescue
I imidiately got that reference from the thumbnail
I bought a spare keyboard for mine recently and it arrived in many small pieces thanks to USPS! Well at least the keyboard clips, keys and cable were salvageable. I do need to fix the clip on the case though. Such a great machine. Love mine.
Gorgeous color combination!
Fast iteration for this kind of stuff is exactly why I love 3D printing
Good stuff! You can really see the love you put into this. Also a BIG thank you for making a good half hour video instead of something spread across a number of parts. I much prefer this format.
I appreciate that!
Great video. Loved the 3D printing of that clip, and your attention to detail.
I've always liked these "luggable" computers. In their own way, they are the first real ultra-portable computers. They are their own case, all you need is to bring the power cable and a bit of software, and they were just as powerful as their full-size counterparts.
Not like today, where everything requires a dongle, laptops are built with dramatically underperforming hardware compared to the home desktop, and you need a bag to lug around the computer, power brick, and any peripherals you might possibly need.
This has come on my auto-play again. I have to say, the theme for your show always makes me feel really happy, it just fills me with nostalgia.
Thank you for your kind words. Means a lot! 👍🕹
Subscribed! I grew up through the 80s with the Atari 2600, ZX81, Vic-20, C64 (fantastic SX restore BTW), Atari 520 ST and Amiga 500. What a decade!
Thanks for the sub!
Lol'ed when I saw it at the pool!
Yet another Commodore lovingly restored. Looks brilliant. 👍👍👍
Beautiful restoration, congratulations
Fantastic job Peri - looks like new.
I came for the repair but I stayed for the cheesy puns!
Wow that clip for the key board worked so well .. really impressed... another great video
Thank you so much 👍
That is my favorite machine of all time!
wow great job. love the look after the refurbish.
I used to own one a long long time ago.....tough times forced me to pawn it along with all of my c64 gear (this, a desktop, 50 games, and 2 monitors) for like $50. As much as I hated having to do it, that $50 fed my family for the week. I have some fun times on that when I was a kid.....can't ever get back your youth.
19:44 A damn good tune for a damn good scrubbing!
Thank you! That's the instrumental of "Falling" from my album "Pop: Vox" :-) perifractic.com/music
The handle design is pretty standard for CRT oscilloscopes of the era, maybe not a household format but in every electronics lab everywhere. The same carry/stand is on some ham radio equipment and other electonics test equipment. I don't know if they took an existing case (is it 19" as well?) and put fun plastic on it rather than scientific beige, or just took the format idea and ran with it.
The first Compaq PC luggable did this as well IIRC. I remember one being brought home from my dad's work when I was very little.
Living the dream! Looking at SX64 next to the pool was a bit nerve racking...
Fantastic restoration (as always) Mr Fractic in taking a SUX64 and turning it into a SXY64! All semantic jokes aside, the SX64 was quite revolutionary and relatively "portable" by 1984 standards - much easier than lugging around a full sized monitor, C64 and 1541. And as the "Are you keeping up with the Commodore?" advertisement and your gobsmacking recreation proves, it wasn't a computer it was a lifestyle choice - pool and open necked shirt optional! I'm sure Ferris Bueller would have owned one.
27:32 Holy scanline, Batman!!
No matter how many times I watch this video, I always want to watch it again! Now that Covid is easing, can we have that secret camera in Starbucks video please? How much fun will it be!?!?
Definitely on the to do list!!
quality content, proud i found this gem of a channel.
Thank you for your kind words! Means a lot 👍🕹️
I'm wondering if that Commodore jingle has been turned into a synth/vaporwave song already, and if not, why not.
Great channel! I just discovered you guys and I can’t describe just how calming it is for me to watch old tech be repaired and restored to its former glory. It has given me so many new ideas on some resourceful fixes I can do myself, thank you.
Our pleasure!
Not sure why i haven't been recommended this channel yet. I watch LGR and Modern Vintage Gamer.
The Fractic clan really went above and beyond this time. So many great things, and amazingly held my interest with a big smile on my face the whole time. Love you guys!
Wonderful!
Certainly was an interesting device, looked a little like lugging a tower around. I wonder how many people used it as intended. Great restoration too, I love the care and detail you put into these projects. Really glad I saw the Battle Chess video in my recommendations as your channel is gold.
The circle zoom into the guy's hairy belly button! LOL!!
Great job Pun Commodore!
Thank you for the detail of adding “dramatic key change” in the lyrics, well played! 🎹 👍🏻
And yes, the guys 'repurposing' useful stuff from the ladies toolbox is a thing. Nailfiles, especially 🤫🤫🤫
This was an especially nice video, very good job and thank you!
This is one of the the best channels on CZcams! I've binged and subscribed.. keep up the great work guys!
Wow, thanks!
So my very first real job was at a computer store dedicate to selling commodore. So at the age of around 15 while I could not own all these computers. I did get chance to see, and play many of them. And just a few years earlier my middle school even had a PET computers for students to use, play with and program. While my memory is a bit fuzzy. I think we had one of these computers. I remember I really wanted one. I have c64 at the time.
Great restoration, coupled with the usual humour, made for another excellent video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent repair job on the keyboard latch!
I never owned one of these, after my commodore 64 i then had a
commodore 128, but before all these i had the commodore vic 20 & i loved them
Oh my goodness, it’s beautiful. Great video
Now you have it all.
"Dramatic Key Change!" Hilarious stuff, mate. Love it!
Not gonna lie: when I saw you using the power drill I was worried, until I saw the disclaimer.
I'd like to hear a Perifractic cover of the "keeping up with the Commodore" theme
