  • Kent is a quint little community. A place that sits under a highway, a place that would make a good home. The kind of place you'd want to go back to.

    Thank you for posting this! My grandpa grew up in the Boyd house as one of 13 kids. Thank you for being so kind and respectful of their home... this was posted in our Family Reunion FB site. Thanks for trying to fix the Armed Forces sign that my grandpa made.

      This was such a special video to watch! The little red house is our Boyd family home and we still keep up the family reunions every year, we’ve just moved the lodging to Fort Davis. We used to camp out in Kent every year up until 2018 when we weren’t able to get water trucked in anymore. We still go back to Kent as a group though every year to visit, walk around, and honor the history. So many special memories of that home and town. 💛

      To echo my cousins. Thank you for being respectful of our family home and history.
      It was neat to see Kent through your eyes. It’s hard to believe that 13 children were raised in that home and the hotel that once stood across the street.

    In 1981 When we moved from Mobile, Ala to Tempe, Az, we drove along I-10. Our car broke down at 11pm at Kent, Texas. We had to hitchhike to Van Horn. 🙂 The gas station wasn't open anymore, at that time.

    I bought peanut m&M's in that old store and a coke. And went back and photographed the school.

    All that damn graffiti really sucks
    I used to drive a truck in the late 1990s and have stopped here several times with my 35 mm camera and taking several pretty rape photographs. And to see it abused like that really pisses me off. If I didn't live as far away as I do in East Texas I would take paint remover and go try to clean some of it up. But I'm getting too old for long journeys like that by myself in my old truck. 😕

    Sadly the old ruins have been demolished

    • @themodernfrontiersmen
      @themodernfrontiersmen  Před rokem

      That is a shame. Last time I drove by there back in 2020 it looked like a bunch of construction was going on so I figured it was being demolished. Sad thing.

  • @themodernfrontiersmen

    This video deals with complex and sensitive cultural and historical matters that are not suitable for children.

    So Joel Osteen stole rights For Van Alston 🤔?

    I found nothing unsuitable for viewing by children. Better to know than walk around dumb. Too much coddling and shielding from reality of life, just sets a child up to become a victim. Just my opinion. Mother of two, grandmither of 4, and great grandmother of 1. People need to expose children to the right things, not stuff like sex, drag shows, and pornography
