- Come, Divine Inspirer, Come from the oratorio Joseph and his Brethren, HWV 59
by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759)
Diana Moore, mezzo-soprano
Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra
Nicholas McGegan, conductor
Come, divine inspirer, come,
Make my humble breast thy home,
Draw the curtain from mine eye,
And present place futurity!
Thus, whilst I o'er Pharaoh's dream
Bright interpretation beam,
Pharaoh's self shall temples raise,
And Egypt incense to thy praise.

Lovely aria, beautifully sung by a fairly young British mezzo. Sometimes bordering on contralto. Certainly new to me. Great choice.

Where do you find this beautiful gems, my friend? I have never heard of this oratorio. So lovely. Thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome, Elise. It’s surprising how infrequently many of Handel’s oratorios are performed. There’s certainly a wealth of music to explore. I spent this past summer really delving into the oratorios.
Dear Jeffrey. Some time ago you mentioned to me that you might entertain suggestions for your consideration. The orchestra and conductor featured here remind me of something else they recorded, and that you might like. There is the most delightful duetto from Handel’s comic cantata “CLori, Tirsi e Fileno featuring Lorraine Hunt Lieberson (obviously well known) and US countertenor, Drew Minter (less well known). Have a listen at some point and see what you think. I really believe your loyal viewers will love it!
I have McGegan's recording of Clori, Tirsi e Fileno. Handel reused that delightful duet in Rinaldo, and I have a video of Suzie LeBlanc and Daniel Taylor singing it on my channel. I also have a video of Lorraine Hunt Lieberson singing "Va col canto lusingando"
from that cantata on my channel. I will keep your suggestion in mind. Presently, I'm focused on oratorios, and I have the next several videos already completed.
@@JeffreyStivers Thanks for getting back to me.
@@JeffreyStivers Hi again. Just watched your video from Rinaldo. Lovely version. At least I was correct in that your viewers would love it. The comments suggest that they did. Great…
@@djperry211 It is such a delightful duet. I can see why Handel reused it.
Drew Minter, a true blast from the past! He was phenomenal, I must say.
