- Deggio morire, O stelle from the opera Siroe, re di Persia, HWV 24
by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759)
Eva Zaïcik, mezzo-soprano
Le Consort
Justin Taylor, conductor
Originally sung by the famous castrato, Senesino, born Francesco Bernardi (1686-1758)
Deggio morire, O stelle!
Né all’innocenza mia
V’è chi contento dia,
Né chi dia pace.
Io son vicino a morte
E ogn’un nella mia sorte,
O mostrasi ribelle,
O pur si tace.
TRANSLATION (by Charles Johnston):
I must die, O stars,
And there is nothing that offers
Satisfaction to my innocence,
Nor grants it peace.
I am near to death,
And, in my dire situation, all
Either revolt against me
Or remain silent.

Beautiful mezzo soprano voice with a very rich and warm "texture". Eva Zaïcic a voice to remember
I’m very fond of her singing, and you will find she is well represented on my channel.
Sadness and resignation at their best. Thanks a lot for sharing !
You’re welcome, dearest María. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
👏👏👏👌excelente Jeffrey
I’m glad you enjoyed it, dear Carlos.

You're welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed this. I am very fond of her singing.
Dear Jeffrey, This is heartbreakingly gorgeous, the pathos, the sound, thank you
You’re welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Infinitely sublime. This version, unlike others, has a sweetness that contrast the dramatic music. Recently I just saw another video of her performing with Le Consort and I can tell she's so beautiful as her voice resembling one of those period paintings.
Indeed. I am very fond of her singing. I previously promoted her recital disc of French Baroque music on my channel.
It seems to me that this mezzo soprano has a warm and well tempered voice, in armony with the resigned sadness of this beautiful Handel's aria. Congratulations for the choice, dear Jeffrey. Best regards.
I’m very fond of her singing, and I previously promoted her debut recital disc of French Baroque music on my channel. I’m glad you enjoyed this. Warm greetings.
Beautiful Eva
I’m very fond of her singing, and she is well represented on my channel.
Bel enregistrement. Voix claire. C'est tout simplement excellent.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Very moving and perfect choice of photography by Kyle Thompson. Thank you very much, dear Jeffrey, have a wonderful Sunday!
You’re welcome, dear Theo. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Since this aria was originally sung by the famous castrato Senesino, I have paired it with photographs by Kyle Thompson to help the listener imagine what it would have been like to hear this sung by a man. Fond regards.
@@JeffreyStivers Indeed, it is a great pity that you do not direct operas. That would save us from many a vulgarity and incomprehensibility of modern directors. In this respect, the last production of Rusalka in Madrid was probably another low point of failed directorial theatre. Fortunately, your video uploads put the musical and visual world back in order with perfectly formed aesthetics. Once more thank you and a big hug!
You’re welcome, and thank you for your kind words.
Excelente selección, gracias.
You’re welcome, dear Alvaro. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
From the first notes a beautiful émotion overwhelms me.The timbre of Eva Zaik's voice works wonders here again.Thank you dear Jeffrey. Have a nice sunday .
You’re welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I am very fond of her singing. I previously promoted her recital disc of French Baroque music.
In 2018 I saw and heard her for the first time during the Brussels 'Koningin Elisabethwedstrijd-Concours Reine Elisabeth' where she became second. I immediately liked her warm mezzo then and like now even more her singing the Baroque repertoire.Thank you.
You’re welcome. I’m very fond of her singing. Previously, I promoted her recital disc of French Baroque music.
Simply wonderful, or perhaps not so simply....great music. Thanks Jeffrey, for revealing a long string of special choices to share.

Thank you for your kind words of support. It’s always nice to hear that people enjoy the music on my channel. Warm greetings.
Uplifting
I’m glad you enjoyed it.
This is magnificent, Jeffrey.
Since you are an avid Handel's music collector, I wonder if you may please post Neil Davis singing "But God Is Great" from one of his Chandos Anthems.
Thank you, Jeffrey.
You’re welcome. I’m very fond of Neal Davies’ singing. Unfortunately, the Chandos Anthems recording is on the Hyperion label, and they block uploads on CZcams, so unfortunately I am not able to use anything that’s available from them.
@@JeffreyStivers I thank you so much for your reply. Indeed, Davies has a very good voice. I have Paul McCreesh's recordings of Handel Oratorios; that's how I was introduced to Davies and I liked his voice.
Keep up the good work, Jeffrey.
у вас, чтото случилось, мой друг?
Do you personally prefer a mezzosoprano or a countertenor voice?
For these operatic roles, I generally prefer a mezzo.
