the fact that they called this "party ESSENTIALS" is killing me. if this dlc is supposedly so "essential" for parties - something that have been in the game since the beginning - why is it coming out 10 years late lmao
The ONLY saving grace would’ve been if it had made certain objects which are locked behind various DLC (like the buffet table thing, the drinks fountain, functional dance floors, maybe even the photo booth) more accessible to players who don’t want to spend a fortune *just* to get those “essential” party items. They could’ve reskinned them all to match one another and stuck them in the kit and that could’ve been cool, fit the name and made it somewhat more worth the money for newer/more casual players, and still new enough (in that they’ll all match and fit tho specific kind of party theme) that people who own them wouldn’t feel cheated.

I have so many ideas for things that would've been cool. A bouncy house for kids, an online shop where your sims could purchase different cakes and cards for different occasions, spin the bottle, a fruit punch bowl that mischievous sims can spike, a piñata...
I know these are gameplay things so it would have to be a stuff pack, but I think the $10 is plenty worth it if it's actually adding to your game.
Well to be fair busy the dust was a gameplay kit, so it's not out of the realm of possibility what you are describing. A bouncy castle would've been such a nice addition bc kids have nothing but drawing tables and I guess a treehouse
You came up with some great ideas that would not only be decorative but add gameplay for all generations. Spin the bottle for teens and adults, and games for the kids. I love the online shop idea. So quick and easy to throw together a quick party. It would have been nice to even get items for pets when they age up. Give us a small stack of gift items where the swatches are different according to the stage of life for the sims or different according to what the sim likes. There's just so much missed out opportunity for creative items that would be decorative and add gameplay.

Size doesn’t necessarily matter, it’s how you use it…and EA does not know how to use it.
I'm a 3D modeler and this just hurts my soul. All these items take less than a day to make. I'm fucking speechless 😃

So the board thing is like a welcome sign - ppl usually use them for baby or bridal showers, graduation parties, etc. That being said, this pack is unsurprisingly underwhelming. lol.
Yeah they’ve been at most weddings I’ve been to and I know my nephew’s 1st birthday had one, but they’re not usually at standard parties and there’s already one in My Wedding Stories for weddings. It’s a weird choice, because the kind of parties this pack is based around doesn’t really include anything for the kinds of parties (like weddings, baby showers, baby parties) boards are useful for…in part because a lot of those parties are locked behind other DLC. There’s not a lot they could do with the party theme without crossing over with other already available DLC (a corner they’ve backed themselves into), but they’ve still managed to make something underwhelming and not even worth kit prices lmao. It’s almost impressive.
would've been nice if the board added some gameplay. it's a cute item for what it is but at the end of the day it's all just filler for an empty pack

The sign would’ve been cool if you put it out and clicked it to put up streamers that matched the theme of whatever board you put down. Or have sims be able to place notes on the board for the host.
I knew it was going to be underwhelming based on the name alone. EA’s track record hasn’t gotten me excited for anything since Werewolves and I fucking hated that pack even though I’m a werewolf girlie.
"It's very much giving Sims Mobile." - That's because the Sims Mobile has had a Disco ball, party lights, a fog machine, DJ booth, etc. for YEARRRRRSSSS. They also had a pizza oven and stand mixer for several years before Home Chef Hustle. I feel like the Sims 4 team is trying to transfer over the few ideas/items that they had unique to the Sims Mobile, before the mobile game ends for good. If we get a Vampire refresh with an upright coffin and a vampire hovering into the coffin with their arms crossed, I'm done.😂

SimmerErin has actually speculated the same thing, and has predictions of future content based on this pattern. I wouldn't be surprised if they're just porting content over, but it takes longer because of the scale.

actually the punchbowl stand serves as a buffet table in this game it's just has a round shape.
An oversight? No. By definition an oversight is an unintentional failure to do something, say something, or notice something. There's nothing remotely unintentional about this or other recent (and not so recent) kits/packs/etc. This is gouging us for the benefit of executives and shareholders, without actually providing a product with any substance, whether in terms of functionality, creativity, or just plain fun. It's not even especially pretty. Basically, it's lacking in content and it's boring, too.
Also I really dont understand how they cant make circles?? why is every balloon or top of a can faceted instead of smooth, like go into blender and use the circle tool?? I'm so lost

The reason is polygons or the lack thereof. If you go into blender and just use a circle tool, it is not optimized for performance, and every object in the game needs to not make the game crash loading it as an asset. That's why Garten of Banban is such a nightnare to run (say nothing of the game quality) trying to make everything have a high poly count to rough out those wonky curves tanks your performance. So while the ugly polygonal not-curcular objects are hideous on close inspection they are actually an intentional choice to prevent your game from crashing constantly lol
That being said, this wouldn't be as big of an issue if the sims was like, a functioning game and not dumpster code switched together
@@TheGlassAddiction yeah but I can't imagine the circles have to look THAT wonky. Those balloons are really bad. I only use these programs for architectural stuff so I don't know much about the game design side but those are really rough and you can usually reduce meshes even when they're curved so they're not as big

This really, *really* should have just been a free base game update, maybe for their Sims Anniversary. (And yeah all I could think was that a few of these would at least be good for a gamer bedroom.) Those balloons look like dogshit, and are just the vanilla basegame balloons recolored and re-positioned - a few more polygons in a balloon to make it not angular won't kill the game anymore than any other bug will, lmao.

The dance floor doesn't actually require get together. Dance floors are mainly used to assign a space for sims to dance to rather than them dancing wherever. Get together came with the dance skill and group dancing which simply adds these interactions on the normal dance floors.

@@bunnyellabell It's for sims to dance in a designated area instead of randomly dancing in the bedroom and bathroom. It's very useful for community lots such as clubs etc.
I thought the same thing. if you argue that the invisible dance floor is useless then so is every other dance floor because you could just dance from the speaker. this pack is underwhelming ofc but not for that reason 😅
It bugs me that more party decor isn’t movable in live mode. Like that sign especially, that’s the kind of thing I wish I could put in my sims’ inventory or into storage without having to go into build/buy when I want to put it out and put it away again, because most likely I’m only going to have decor out for a few in-game hours. Like it’s a small thing but it’s one of like 10,000 other small things that are annoying about this game.
Can’t remember who it’s by at the moment (pretty sure it’s twistedmexi?) but there’s a mod that makes everything movable in live mode and I can’t play without it!
I like the lights, the discoball, the fog, the simple radio and bar. Would have been nice free update to luxury party.
I love watching lilsimsie's video and then Satch's because they usually review kits, packs, and announcements on the same day. Its really funny to see the differences on how yall react 😂😂
Lilsimsie’s opinion is a little bit bought by ea - she won’t be as honest as Satch cause she’s in the creator content. That’s why I value satch’s opinion much more.

Satch is more critical but sometimes he’s just straight up wrong, like how he said the dance floor requires Get Together to function as it’s literally functioning in his video while he has Get Together disabled

I think the invisible fog mat aka dance floor, would be great aesthetically if you're building a creepy spooky house or cemetery and want some fog effects. Or if you want to throw a spooky party but done have room for the fog machine.

For anyone with get together they could already do this with the steam vent (by placing it in a basement and move objects) and or dj booth with fog effect the curved one.

I was hoping we'd get some baby shower stuff since its a party pack. Like "its a girl/boy" wall decor. Maybe some party recipes or a gameplay cake object where you cut it and can learn the gender of your child. Also in the previous sims games the balloons were actual circles and would pop over time...

They could have at least made the snack decoration into a Cooler where sims can grab quick meals. And I think the Juice Jug could have been like the juice keg from university minus the keg stand interaction. At least make it function like a juice bowl. Would be fun if Sims could spike it like previous games. Almost every item seems to have a similar counterpart from another pack.

It being invisible is perfect for those that have very specyfic style of their buildings which they don't won't to ruin with unmatching dancefloor. I for example have a medieval-style gameplay, so I'd really appreciate this one, but the whole kit is so laughable that I'm not even gonna comment on it more. Custom contet creators have done it better ~5 years ago, for free.
When Satch review the greenhouse haven kit he said the table should be functional if the person had the seasons pack (the arrangment flower table), here they did exactly that, it still functional without Get Together, they wouldnt sell the "special dance moves" from the pack in this kit.
The board I like. It’s like a sign that you place either outside of the venue or at the entrance to a party. Also the “drape” seems more like a photo backdrop.
One thing that *can* be said about The Sims 4 is that it's consistent. It never fails to disappoint. I appreciate that in a strange way. #curbyourexpectations

Hmmm. The Neon light with the Flamingo swatch kinda reminds me of the time I visited Vice City in 1986. Some punk from Liberty City who went by the name Tommy Vercetti rose to his criminal fame there.
They should have named it what it is: "80s Party Kit". It looks like old school 80s basement or bad school gym dance parties of old, except for the LED stuff, which seems like they just tossed those in for the modern gen. I like the fog stuff though, can be used for Vampires and makeshift graveyards. Eh, not wicked exciting, but I can see some potential for retro and/or Occult or just cheesy gameplay. Definitely not "essentials", lol.
I've decided not to buy another thing and just wait until they give it away!
I’m a brand new player to the sims 4 only started last week. I cannot believe any of you are paying for these. I spent money at a CC creator (shoutout to Abricot designs) and got dozens of builds and a list of hundreds of free CC for less than the cost of two sims 4 expansion packs. I paid $50 for (supposedly one of the best) packs Cottage Living and it’s a hunk of junk. I got more from downloading the saved lot Plumb made. I am 33 years old and grew up on the sims 2. Why do none of my sims have personalities? Where’s the burglar? Sims 2 came with the ability to throw a party in the base game itself. Only a week in and so disappointed. I may just go back to sims 2.
We're from the same generation and I have to tell you, please go back to The Sims 2 while you can. It's awful over here. 😅
@@SyntheticGothit’s a mixed bag for me because I’m a builder and the sims 4 is infinitely better for builders imho. Sims 2 is god tier for live mode though
@@CJ.1998X.Y.Z Fair. Build mode is the only thing TS4 has going for it. I'm scared to go into live mode anymore, tbh. I finally get my save to how I want it and bam, another patch/pack comes along and I have to update mods all over again. 🙄
The fog machine and dance floor will come handy for the Halloween builds though😭😭😭

Some swatches on that board would look great for a library build. -sincerly, someone who works at a library
The effects are cool (like that one standing light and the fog) but the textures on the balloons look bad (they don't really seem like balloons to me?), the table is almost identical to the one in the base game, and the items don't really seem to fit a theme. Agree with you, not worth it.
Things missing: Decorative pizza boxes, like they could've added red solo cups, punch. If its a gender reveal party, they could've added baby posters, like baby in a blue or pink onesie. Birthday party, decorative cone hats. Balloons tied to backs of chairs. They have a military career with strangerville, why not add some military swatches to the posters or ribbons for a welcome home party.

To say I'm surprised you need another $40 pack to get the full functionality of the dancefloor would be a lie. EA is scummy and notoriously pulls stuff like this. Like, genuinely the only thing that sticks out for me is the new radio and the bar because I like the look of them, other than that? This kit is very... no.

I don't understand what this "dlc for dlc" rant was about. With GT dance floors you need music to dance, as well. Yes, you can dance without a dance floor. Bit it's used for telling your sims where to dance, so they don't do it around the radio as a bunch of morons 😂
there's just really no point in that, i guess. the difference is the sims will be a couple feet away from the radio. that costs you 5000 simoleons! the group dance options are what make the dance floor a dance floor. otherwise it's nothing
Guys the dance floor does work without other packs you just need music to be playing like with every other dance floor item in the game.
I dont understand why every object for different high walls need to be different object with its own icon. If they can click on counter and be able to select which piece u want, it should be possible to have only one decor object(window, etc), click on it, select which high we want and place it. We really dont need the same thing 3 times in the build mode with the basicly same icon.
i think this pack would maybe, MAYBE, be a little less awful if the inventory system worked like how the sims 2 did. you can put any item in your sim's inventory and put it back in the house without having to go into build mode to redecorate entirely. i remember doing a similar thing for a party animal sim in the sims 2 who threw college parties, i'd have the decorations in his inventry and swap them with some of the furniture when i had to. but parties already suck in the sims 4 and having to go all the way into build mode just to decorate for a party is a lot more of a hassle than you'd think. and also the stuff in the pack isn't even very good. it's all pretty cartoonish or childish (aside from the bar and the record player stereo table, which i do actually like).

Well, thank god I stopped buying stuff from EA. They lost a passionate player since childhood and a huge fan of the earlier versions of Sims (especially 2, I miss it so much. Can they re-release Castaways for PC?).

Despite refusing to continue to line EA's greedy pockets I still 🌚🏴☠✨collect✨🏴☠ every build kit and pack as I refuse to let their dumpster fire extortion tactics take away my favorite game and even I'M avoiding downloading it, it just looks SO underwhelming in the previews.
I can't wait to hear you give EA another thrashing Satch, I know you get a lot of complaints for doing so but it is truly so deserved while they continue to treat a 24 years strong dedicated customer/fan base so embarrassingly and your reviews are always the best part of any new pack imo

The signs supposed to be like a welcome sign, some parties have those or like if it’s in a big venue it’s used to show where the party actually is
Sorry, but I am convinced that these are left overs. Ether from my wedding stories, or prom decoration from the highschool pack. They weren't ready in time, so they sell them as a kit later. They just added a poster and a few swatches and called it a day.
The mods for this pack would be so cool to make like rainbow discoball patterns

This looks like a pack you’d use on a community lot, specifically a recreation type build. Like in real life you’d rent out a room or something to throw a super cheap party thrown together by the mothers in the PTA haha The disco ball and the basic bar are the only things I like. 🤷🏻♀️
I would not recommend wasting money on these kits. Only go for the packs you actually enjoy.
I’m not surprised. I got the vibe it would be just a few objects (that could have been base game 10 years ago) and even those would be lacklustre and mostly non functional, and for one type of party and that’s it… a kids birthday party held in a community centre in the late 90s
The party board is usually used when a or multiple party/ies is being held in a public space and there is a lot of venues so they normally have the names of the people's party at the door - will work well at clubs and parks etc.
Can you use the dance floor to make a group dance to the radio? If so then that's perfectly fine. Also, it'd be perfect for haunted houses to create fog
*cries into the abyss* The butterfly wing designs are from the discarded fairies pack. If you pay attention to EA's advertising, they're putting those wing assets everywhere. Just a whole lot of random butterfly motifs for no *cough* reason.

i agree that this pack isn't the most usable for everyday gameplay but I don't know why you said at 11:12 that the dance floor requires Get Together to function because you were using it while having every pack disabled? the only reason it wasn't working before was because you had no music playing
I love your honest reviews! I totally agree with you, that as a customer, we expect this to be good. High quality, top notch items, etc. And we are not getting that with EA & Maxis.
I think the invisible mat/floor is if you want to have the fog affect without the lights!
@04:28 uffff... this reminded me of when I installed Get Famous, was playing the active acting career and they had those craft tables your Sim could eat from. I was CONVINCED they had finally added a functional buffet table when I saw that. I spent inordinate amounts of time combing through the BB section, 100% sure that I had somehow missed it 😵💫
