a trick cyclists use to help prevent pinch flats is to coat the tube in talc which helps it to slide around rather than get stuck

lol, nice vid.....You lucky guys with your split rim hub motor wheels! I mounted very similar tires on my custom scooter build without the ease of a split rim and it was unlike mounting all of the bicycle tires I've done before. They were tight! I had to buy giant motorcycle tire spoons for the leverage and really needed a 3rd hand but was only born with 2. Even after using grease and soapy water on the rim , tube and tire, I ended up severing the precious 90 deg angle tube and had to start all over with the only tube I had left. I got it on and the tube lasted 300 miles before a blowout. So replacing it, I made a tire jig out of 3/4'" plywood to press down around the whole tire at once, so hopefully will not have tube issues this time. I also use 2 layers of a fat bicycle tire liner because I knew what a pain in the ass it was to change these. But the tires are pretty great, on and off-road...good grip and not much road noise. Also, I got 2 of those Mantis Pro tires originally, but wanted to go wider with these... those 2.5" tires came with 2.0" tubes and these 3.0" tires came with 2.5" tubes.

FYI your pro tip of loosening the bolts on the suspension to open the arms completely eliminates the need of pounding the wheel off with a rubber mallet. Just loosen those first before you remove the wheel and it just slides right off

I love these tires so much. It took time for me to put in on my front tire but the grip that I get from those tires on the road is worth the speed reduction. Since my roadways are hot garbage, pothole and cracks in the road are now a joke for my wheels.

thanks for this video. made it pretty easy . Today my back tire got a flat first, after 2500 miles. It didn't hold air, and I used slime so that may have helped me all these miles. I already had 3 inch tires on deck so i put those on to. But man !! there were things that were tremendously stuck into place. One was the little washer you pop off after the nut on the outside of the wheel. holy SHITE those things were on there lol. took me about 2.5 -3 hrs to do all this for both tires, no power tools

Given that the "off road" tire has the knobs... are they a bit thicker? Meaning, thorns, nails, tacks, random pieces of metal have more rubber to penetrate to reach the tube? If you're not off-roading, do you see much difference between the amount of rubber on the road between the two styles of tire? The first thing I would do, besides using a sealant in the tube, is to install some tire liners. They will further prevent punctures, making the sealant fulfill an insurance role.

    • @timoseppala7137
      @timoseppala7137 Před 2 lety

No it does not there's thicker rubber on it The space inside for the tube is approximately the same as the original tire. This also has the added plus of much more rubber to wear through before you risk popping the tube. It does however add a little weight and more resistance when taking off down the road which then in turn causes you to lose a slight amount of acceleration and top end speed. But you gain traction. Only thing I noticed is if you ride when it's wet and you try to corner out high speed you actually wind up with less traction.

Buy proper tools. You should never try to work on something like this with cheapo Walmart low end Allen wrenches. They are made with loose tolerances and low quality metals.
To fix it you can purchase a set of allen wrenches that have little teeth on all six sides to grab onto stripped screws. You'll see what I mean if you see them for sale I don't remember what they called them I just know that they are designed to not slip. It also helps to purchase longer allen wrenches so you have more leverage on them

Would this tire fit on a kaabo mantis V2 fluid edition?

Yes. I just installed these last night, I did the full on-road version of it but they're the exact same tire just with a different tread pattern. You will lose a little bit of top speed and seems like it's a little less torque but it does feel like it grabs the road a lot better

I finally got around to installing a set of 3 inch tires on my mantis but I seem to hit an issue not mentioned by anyone else . Front tire is running against control arm . Any idea if this can be adjusted ?

Are they the tires from voro? Is your control arm bent? Is the tire over inflated?

@@GingerOnWheels I have them aired up to about 45-50 psi . And control arms are sitting flush no bends . However I got the set off of alie . I guess I know what the issue is . Haha self clearance should fix it

@@rawbone put the scooter on a stand. Lock cruise control on slow speed. Take a rasp and hold it to the side of the tire and shave off a small bit touching the control arms. Common practice on EUCs with ill-fitted tires.

I tried to take out the screws around the rim using a drill gun and it wouldn't unscrew. Those things must be screwed in their TIGHT. My next move is to spray each screw with WD40 and see if that does the trick. If that doesn't do it, I might just buy the T-Handle Allen Wrenches and hope for the best. No way I'm risking bending a standard allen wrench on this.

@@GingerOnWheels Thanks, but last night I finally got them out. I did spray WD40 then used an allen wrench from a heavy duty folding set which helped me use some leverage in my palm from its design. Not sure if the WD40 helped or I just needed to put some force into it but at least I got them out.
And THANKS for the video, you're a life saver as I would never have known what a "split rim" was until you showed it here.

These treads feel fucking great don’t they? ;)
Been running them on Steeve (My Hunter X10) for about 600km now and they shred hard everywhere!

Also with removing those washers at the wheel l, just tap the tire side to side and it’ll wiggle the motor out a bit and free those lock washers.
Get yourself a table that’s high enough to flip the scooter over on the deck on a corner, it’ll make tire changes super easy long term ;)

Heat up the screw slightly with a heat gun or hair dryer. Then use the Allen key to take the screw out, but put a rubber band in between the Allen key and the screw for better grip on the stripped threads. Or, you can cut a long slit along the top and then use a flathead screwdriver to take it out. If that doesn't work you'll need to buy an EZ out screw kit and drill the old screw out.
