"I miss trip hop." and so say we all.
Me too man, me too.
So say we all
"Trip hop" is alive and well. Also be sure to check out Tricky, Zero 7, Boards of Canada and SPOOL (from San Francisco)
I love it still. Even tho Liz is c-c-c-crazy
I don't miss it at all. I listen to it every day!
One of the greatest singers to have ever lived. We are blessed indeed to have known her like. There won't be another like her. Ever.
Now we need some portishead
Yes! Beth Roars needs to react to Beth Gibbons. :)
Yes, please, Roads from the Roseland live record would be awesome.
Iâve been asking for Portishead forever!
I've seen a lot of requests for Portishead in the comments but she doesn't usually read them. Drop these on her other social media where she interacts more
Yes we need this to happen.
Please, please do one of Liz's voice back in her heyday, with the Cocteau Twins. Her most interesting use of her voice was between the albums Blue Bell Knoll and Heaven or Las Vegas. Her phrasing and range is very distinctive, and I think you'd get more out of those :)
Oohhh, oohhh, oohhh, YES!
Love Cocteau Twins. Though this tune isn't really that far off when you get down to it. Just need Robin Guthrie's guitar...
YEAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
100% agree!
I just love how calming this song is. I showed this to my autistic son when he was having one of his frantic moments and he sat down and went silent and then smiled it was awesome
That's cool đ and good to know x
That's the power of Liz.
That's the ultimate complement for any artist
Have you considered a career as a 'Falmer'? It won't do you any halm.
@@mic7able I'm a carer for my son if that's what you mean?
Being a Metal fan for my entire life, the first time i heard Massive Attack back in the 90's blows my mind.. what its this? incredible music, awesome vocals,.. still hearing, specially in rainy winter time in my hometown, concepcion, chile.
Conce amado ⥠Liz y Conce son la combinación perfecta
Same here
weno massive csm
ConcepciĂłn!
Me too. Amazing. I was just puttering around the house, and when I heard this, I stopped in my tracks.
"I'm so glad it was Liz Fraser and not Madonna"
Subscribed, of course :)
for that same exact comment, I gave this video thumbs down.
"Mezzanine"... such a great album.
*RAWR*
...and Yeah.. i feel so old :/
A true piece of art from start to finish.
Yet u are :)
Me too! XD
Mezzanine is such an epic album!! I remember when I discovered it, just after it's release. My then gf and I were visiting one of her mates in London and she played the cd just after we arrived. It literally exploded in my head, I was mesmorised!!! Next day I went straight out and bought it, must have played it 10 times during that visit and it's still one of my all time favourites. On a good hi-fi system the bass is seismic, some of the deepest I've ever heard on a recording, really a sub is needed for it to be reproduced cleanly.
Black Milk is my all-time favorite from them. Liz melts the mic on that song.
Black Milk Matters.
yeah, that one is deliciously done)
I have been OBSESSED with Cocteau Twins recently! She's an incredible person
Elsif That happened to me a while ago. All other music seems flat and shallow when you go down the Cocteau rabbit hole
@@difruntanguls that happened to me and i never came out of the hole.. why would i? sounds nice in here.
@@difruntanguls the first time I heard them was Carolyn's fingers and her voice was so irritating to me! I came back to them a little while later and started at Garlands... I think I listened to them for 3 days straight, just like this đ€Ż It's like, I couldn't just jump into the middle of their sound like that đ
She once sang a song called 'Song for a Siren'. Pretty much sums her up- Who wouldn't steer onto the rocks for that voice?
There is so much great Liz Fraser to react to. I'd suggest This Mortal Coil's version of "song to the siren."
Originally by Tim Buckley. And Liz then went out with Jeff Buckley!
Her pacing/timing/phrasing in that always blows me away. It's like she's singing in a language strange to her, yet the musicality of the words is speaking to her at a primal level. Just riveting.
@@ranica47 when i heard about it i went đ€Ż
Wonderfully melancholic song!
Classic
Yes. I miss Trip Hop as well. Perhaps the greatest thing to come from the 1990's. Massive Attack, Portishead, and, though, not entirely TH, Hooverphonic and Morcheeba and Cibo Matto. (To name a few.)
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. I think the Bristol scene of Tricky, Massive Attack and Portishead gave us an amazing genre of music that has so many layers to indulge in.
Not bad from a wee girl from Grangemouth! I always feels like I am floating on a cloud when I hear that amazing voice.
Two weeks ago I listened to Portishead- Live at Roseland... And I just realized how right i was about trip-hop. I missed it so much, and listening to it, carefully, with another perspective... almost cried!!
I feel like watching all of House MD series again for the 30th or so time... it's how I was introduced to this great song and so I'm reminded of the show every time I hear it.
Fun fact: due to copyright issues only the US version had this song. The rest of the world got a different intro, that sounded somewhat similar.
You have the perfect voice for Teardrop. You literally mimicked her. Beautiful
Just my thoughts
Liz and Jeff Buckley were dating for a while, I remember Liz saying in a interview that this song is dedicated to him.
This made me cry so bad... listen to All flowers in time and then Vancouver
@@nataliabastias4767 I know right. Terribly sad.
As much as I adore this song, I just wish I lived in a universe where it never had to be written. Liz was one of Jeff's favourite singers and you can see why. Ethereal and beautiful vocals. I wish they'd gotten to make more music together.
Check out Björk - "Jóga" live Jools Holland 1997.
..absolutely amazing
I was just listening to "Bachelorette" from that same performance last night. Just outstanding.
That's such a powerful song of love and friendship. And her voice - my God, I still haven't got over the first time I heard "Birthday"....
I still want this .. so good
I know weâre here for the vocals but that dirty bass tone my god...
Liz Fraser is an absolute legend. Please make some video about her Cocteau Twins' work.
One of my all time favourites form the 90s. Still gets many plays in my house.

Liz is a remarkable singer, and also a remarkable performer. When I saw Cocteaus live, it was if her voice incorporated her emotional response to the audience, she would incorporate a laugh into the song and there would be an explosion of perfectly controlled breath and voice from the diaphragm. I love it when she brings her voice into the chest and you get this ecstatic release, but it's always controlled, it's like vocal alchemy. She is a true artist and if you watch her when she's singing you see that she is both transported and present. It's almost Shamanic. The human voice is my favourite instrument.
OMGGGG liz is my favorite singer! cocteau twins my favorite band, i can't belive you react to her! thank you, her voice is a gift
Ive had this in my playlist forever, just love it.
That's exactly what it is beautiful.
Sad and beautiful. When you understand the back story. RIP JB
Finally!!!! been waiting for this one!!!
Thank you for making this video about my all-time favorite singer.
I feel like if Madonna had done it, itâd be turned into a song like her âFrozenâ tune, thatâs wat Iâd imagine, but so grateful it went to Liz Fraser to work her magic đ¶â€ïž
It's lovely to hear you sing!
The anomaly of Lizâs voice is sublime.
I forgot this was the intro to House. I miss House :(
I miss Wilson :(
I want to miss it, but, fucking hell, it started getting pretty rough those last couple seasons...
My favourite song ever, adore Liz & massive attack đ
I love love love Liz Fraser.... Absolutely stunning!!!!!
One of the most seemingly unassuming people in the music industry with possibly the greatest instrument in the industry.
Just about anything she sings has some kind of emotional impact. But Teardrop and Song To The Siren are at the top of the list.
Great video Beth, thank you.
Hullo and thank you! This was very sweet and kind, wonderful analysis.
Mortal Coil - Cocteau Twins ⊠Liz Fraser ⊠what an unbelievable voice ⊠unbelievable woman ⊠sheâs a great part of my musical life! â€ïž
This is Liz just totally in chill mode. Her vocal stuff with Coctau Twins should impress you
The way you walk through the song is amazing
It's effortless because she's a master.
Possibly my favourite song of all time, so was a pleasure to watch it broken down like this.
I well up everytime I hear this track. Sooo beautiful. Perfect tbh
Blue Lines, Protection, and Mezzanine are all still in regular rotation at my place.
đ Beth starts our day beautifully.
You should watch her more recent performance of this with Massive Attack on tour, it was amazing and her voice has become something else
Shivers down my spine listening back to Teardrop
This might be my favorite Liz Fraser performance after Black Milk.
Such a incredible dream like song her voice melts
It would be interesting to hear your take on The Cocteau Twin's song - Aikea-Guinea. Still my favourite after all these years.
That would be interesting fellow Cocteau Twins fan
Same! Would love her take on 'Fifty Fifty Clown' with its ethereal backing vocals đ
My vote is for Sugar Hiccough
Those Eyes, That Mouth is a real display of her vocal ability too
It brings back so many memories...
De lo mejor, gran banda!! â€ïž
Man, I love this live version of the song. Incredible. Huge love for Elizabeth Fraser
Jeff would be loving that vibe & amazing vocals đŻ
My favorite singer ever
Excellent commentary to one of the best vocalist ever.
This song is so awesome đ
I love this song
Such a massive track love it
†this song touch heart
May I suggest some Portishead...
"Roads" live in France 2008, maybe? There's a video of the full concert here on CZcams in decent quality:

absolutely!
You beat me too it.. portishead are amazing one of the biggest and most influential band's of the 90s for sure roads or only you. Let's just say they don't have a bad song and Beth gibbons rocks.
"I miss trip hop" â€ïž
As a vocalist, I guess you could say Liz is an expert...
Phraser...
Underrated đ
PLiz stop
Got em!
I will recommend Aurora's cover of this song, it's very intriguing, you'll love it. Also, Elizabeth Fraser and Sam Lee have really beautiful song, check it out called "The Moon Shines Bright". You can find both live version on YT, no need for reaction hehe, just enjoy it.
Paul Yoximov best version from aurora!! đ
its about time to check out Aurora once again on this channel. I would love to see a reaction to All is Soft Inside, god I love this song
Omg thank you!
Thank you very much for the Moon shines bright recommendation. I had never heard it before.
I came here for the same reason: recommend Aurora's cover. It's simply amazing.
Gorgeous song. It makes me want to listen to some Mazzy Star.
Listen to Paradise Circus (massive attack) and split the difference
@@hankhardigan1104 also their newer track The Spoils is my favorite Hope Sandoval/Massive Attack collab.
@@treefingers1183 Definitely gonna check that out!
Ooh one of my favorites. If we are going to go down this road you 100% need to check out portishead
This whole album is absolutely fantastic.
Seeing MA + Liz Fraser again on their Mezzanine Anniversary Tour was mindblowing. Thanks for this thorough breakdown on her unique styling.
Angel is still a favorite song of mine even after all these years. You should do some Portishead. There are some great live videos of Portishead with Beth Gibbons singing.
Why am I so addicted to your videos. I can't sing for shit....... these videos are so satisfying đđđ
It is like a bucket of feathers dropped on a warm autumn evening
Yes! I've been dying for you to do this. Her perfomance of this song is PROFOUND. So small, so soft, so vulnerable, but so STRONG, and so STABLE. Only other performer I could compare is Art Garfunkel in Bridge Over Troubled Water. Just utterly transcendent.
one of the most heavenly sounds
there's a video on here from a reunion concert with members of Massive Attack and Portishead, with Liz Fraser on vocals, doing this tune. it's amazing.
i love it when younger people talk about one of my favorites singers. i'd like to hear you talk about some early cocteau twins...maybe something from treasure. and maybe a video on the wonder that is lisa gerrard.đ
I hope you know of Liz's chest voice. When I first heard Cocteau Twins I thought it was 2 different vocalists.
Ditto!!
I've learnt a lot from your shows. I'd like to see you do one on Dakhabrakha. This band just puts a smile on my face.
Beautiful Song, always reminds me of Dr House :)
Lol, I remember the first time I heard House come on in the next room, I was like, what cool people are in here listening to MA? But it was just a roomie and House.
Kevin Cross great song for one of the best TV shows of the time.
Favorite youtuber keep up the good work prettiest girl on CZcams
Hi, Beth.
I love watching you doing reactions of artists, thank you for that. Don't know too much about music but I need it in my life.
I would like you to react to Jesse & Joy from Mexico, they have excellent performances.
Greetings!!!
Good reaction đ .Yes, Elizabeth Fraser has an airy, clear, lovely voice....and it probably doesn't hurt (for this reaction) that she's Scottish.
Massive Attack did another song with Madonna âI want youâ . Excellent vocals, underrated.
I saw them live at the Berkeley Greek Theater - it was magical. Very simple stage set up, overhead lighting straight down bathing her and darker band lighting.
This song is epic and of course its my favourite song so favourite Mezzanine Album . Massive attack đ„
Liz Fraser just lifts you up
I had no idea of the Buckley connection, as a fan of both MA and JB thank you for adding that.
They were lovers too, they did a duet 'All Flowers In Time Bend Towards The Sun', check it out, it's amazing!
You have to do a PORTISHEAD reaction now.
Lovely videođ.. Liz frazer is absolutely spell binding.. please review musette and drums.. my favrite song from the 80s.. Love from India.
I'm not crying, you're crying!
i went out and bought that album 180G on vinyl its soooo good
The trip hop of UK , here in America i miss too
I miss trip hop as well! Something about that music just felt so sophisticated and cool. Massive Attack were among my personal favourites; especially the colabs with Tracey Thorn and Liz Fraser!
Liza Gerard, y Liz Frazer las mejores voces x vida
Without equals, both of them...
Iâm dreaming of singing like this
Liz is my favourite singer of all time đđđ
I miss trip hop so much, react to more of this plz good lady
This song is among the best most complete
In December of 1990 I was waiting in line to see Cocteau Twins with Mazzy Star in San Jose, CA. Got there 3 hours early and was loitering about waiting for the doors and heard Ms. Fraser warming up her vocals in the echoes of a hallway. There was one of those push doors and I gave it a shove, no luck. So I leaned there and took it in. She really has one of the most amazing voices and such control. A one of a kind for sure.
