    As a life long fishermen and painter it’s the brook trout that is the most beautiful to me.
    I only fish for trout but in some cases go bass or pike fishing.
    I think trout in general are all pretty fish but the colors of the brook trout look like god painted it and there living peaces of art.
    I know an older fella who loves fly fishing for trout and it was more then his hobby it was a part of his life,his house was decorated with his life accumulation of trout and his trophy catches stuffed and displayed on the wall with antique fly Lewers and fishing poles hanging on the walls.
    Only fly rods and to speak of reel and worm fishing was treason in his domain.
    He tied all his own flys as another hobby and painted amazing good trout on canvas pictures which is how he made his living and he loved well off them.He also worked giving guided fishing tours which he would travel the world doing and made a great living,he was an old man when we met and now he’s an even older man.
    I still go over to visit and go fishing with him but his age has made him unable to tie flys or even paint or fish much anymore,it’s like watching a musician who threw old age gets arthritis and can no longer play guitar to make music and it’s hard to see.

    Looks nice. I love those smaller calm lakes. Float tube with a 10 foot rod, long leader and à train of flies!

      You do know you can grab larger fish by the gill plate and not touch the gills right? Many times it's safer because you don't risk dropping it.

    Yes for September brook trout. They are feeding voraciously and are stunningly beautiful. My brother and I have caught them hand over fist in the Boundary Waters.-big brook trout-15 to 20 inchers.

    The world is full of ironies. Here in Appalachia “a nice little brookie (natives)” is 8 inches. 12 inches is awesome. 😂

      Let me mend this, a nice little brookie is 5 inches. A nice brookie is 8 inches. Anything 10+ is a trophy brook trout.

      @@vickvinegar5071 really? I fish for them here in Maine and have caught tons over 16”. In one day I pulled 15+ that size out of one pool nymphing.

  • @BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists

    I was wondering how the fish got so large in these lakes until they discussed stocking barren lakes. it works if you have enough lakes to rotate since the size of the fish drops dramatically after the first stocking. My particular preference is for self sustaining trout populations in the waters I create. Still this looks like a very fun fishing experience! .... by the way, this is exactly what happened in some interior BC lakes that created the "kamloops" reputation. Those fish were much smaller a couple generations into their presence in lakes like legendary Paul Lake.

    • @jdriver2627
      @jdriver2627 Před rokem

      These stocked trout in ontario do not reproduce, the size depends on the lake. Bait, depth, structure, etc… they can stock the same batch of trout in multiple different lakes and they grow at different rates in different lakes.

    • @jdriver2627
      @jdriver2627 Před rokem

      They can get big because of the lack of fishing pressure. Winter months are easier to access some lakes but the main feeding times is june and sept. Alot of the lakes i fish are foot access only and i rarley ever see another fisherman during summer months

      Lake trout and other bigger fish species can be safely grabbed by the gill plate without touching or harming the gills in any way.

    The New Fly Fisherman still does not have any idea on why the hotspots are where they are. New Fly Fisherman, check out the vegetation on the shoreline along the lake. The riparian zone trees and shrubs provide up to 80% of the nutrients needed for the food chain of the aquatic inhabitants. The old growth forest and pine trees does feed the small mammals in the adjoining upland zone. But why go to Canada to fish hatchery stocked brook trout? Does Canada still have native born brook trout?
