While I do not harbor any ill will towards the LGBTQ+ community in particular, I do not consider myself a "straight ally". It implies that straights and LGBTQ+ people are somehow enemies, and that I'm one of the "good ones". A bit like the saying "you're a credit to your race". I suppose I just find the label superfluous, demeaning, and counterproductive. The way I see it, people are just people. I will judge them not by traits, but by actions.
a word of advice, use caution with the lipstick lesbian flag, it has a super exclusionary history where butch lesbians weren't considered valid

I agree mostly with this one, the rainbow represents the entire LGBTQIA+ community as whole, but sometimes more specifically gay men (mlm or man loving man). Homosexual men do have their one pride flag now, and it is similar to the lesbian flag but with greens and blues, if you want to find this flag I recommend googling “mlm flag”.

First of all, it’s actually pink, purple and blue, not red. Second of all, bisexuals do not have to be a man or a woman who love men and women. Bisexuals can be people of any gender (female, male, non-binary, ect.) who are attracted to two genders, hence the prefix “bi”. Bisexuality is usually someone who is attracted to men and women, but not always, they are attracted to two genders. These two genders can be women and non-binary people, men and genderfluid people, man and women, ect.

Transgender is an umbrella term, just like the term “homosexual”. Homosexuality isn’t just gay and lesbian people, it’s an umbrella term that describes people who don’t identify as straight. This includes bisexuals, pansexuals, lesbians, and anything that isn’t heterosexual. Transgender also has mini labels too, but the main definition of transgender is someone who transitions from one gender to another. Usually people associate transgenderism with women transitioning to men and men transitioning to women, but this is not the case. The transgender umbrella consists of women transitioning to non-binary, men transitioning to demiboys, women transitioning to men and so much more. But yes, ftm (female to male) and mtf (male to female) people are most commonly referred to as transgender.
(PS, the reasoning behind the colours of the trans flag is that they’ve transitioned. Transitioning is kind of like rebirthing as a new gender, so that’s why they chose baby pink and baby blue.)

Pansexuals are people of any gender who are attracted to all genders, regardless of gender identity or pronouns. Heterosexuality is not apart of the LGBTQIA+ community. We appreciate allies and we love straight people but if you are straight, cisgender and not at all in relation to the LGBTQIA+ community, the you simply aren’t LGBTQIA+. It can be hard and pretty awkward to talk about sexuality with your parents, so more power to you!
I came out as a polyamorous pansexual (or polypan) to my family about a month ago. They were cool with it, but they had to ask me what that meant (I come from a heteronormative island community. Not necessarily homophobic but they said the attitude to sexualities has improved in the past 20 or so years).
But yeah, my parents always said they’d accept me no matter how I’d live or whom I’d love.

I'm a lesbian who calls themselves gay and likes the rainbow flag as representation, I've always known that flag as the gay flag for all gays and love it. The rainbow flag makes me feel good and I call myself what I like. You can't just split it off in to each sex exclusively anyway. I am not confused, I am being and saying what makes me feel happy. We don't need to be too overly specific
I’m bi, and I call myself gay. I know many lesbians use the term gay to describe themselves, it’s fine, they can use the flag or word that they identify with. The rainbow flag is not the gay flag actually, there is a man loving men flag.

Makes me so sad to know so many young people are treated badly just for who they love. When my daughter told me she was gay she was really worried I would be upset or something but I said as long as she's happy and whoever she's with is nice to her that's all I cared about❤🧡💛💚💙💜

Been on a really great journey for the past 2 weeks reading, watching and listening to anything LGBTQIA+. Joined 2 discord servers just to chat with people after i watched their twitch streams. Been reading post from subreddits such as r/lgbt , r/trans, r/asexual etc. Before all of this I would have conciderd myself a heterosexual straight male, but after having done all of this I've started to question myself. My first intention was just to watch and learn from something i wasn't really familiar with, and it ended up helping me question my life and if i really was just straight. Thank you all for just being who you are and i would really love to have conversations with you to learn more about your point of view, so please, comment here and ask or just tell me anything. I am a straight ally but I would never consider for a moment that we need a flag, nor have I ever felt excluded for not having a specific flag aimed at me. I always just flew the more common rainbow flag for gay men. Didn't even know there were all of these different flags. I honestly thought the rainbow just represented all people of all stripes and colours. Not to say that this doesn't make sense, but I just didn't know all of this. Very informative, thank you... Also, do I actually have to use the straight ally flag? I don't want to have to seek that out, I am lazy. Is it cool if I continue to fly the same flag? I don't care if people make the assumption that I am homosexual, so that's my plan but I guess I should ask what is preferred by the people that I am supposed to be an ally of.

Why in the world would any sexuality not be valid? For a starters, anyone who doesn’t think another sexuality isn’t valid besides their own - more than likely they aren’t too comfortable in their own sexuality and they’re jealous that you are. That’s number one. Two, of course you’re valid and loved. Actually, there's another gay pride flag because the rainbow flag is used for the lgbtqiap+ community in general. I think its a bit like the lesbian pride flag but with blues and greens.
