- It's been a while since I've uploaded, but I've had so many adventures! I'm going to work on compiling them all into videos - in the meantime, please crack open a beverage and enjoy this wintry adventure with me!
This morning after was hard to get out of my cocoon, I was cozy and warm but outside the tent walls was 20 below freezing, a shell of ice on everything and some pretty intense wind. Eventually I mustered up the get up and slipped on my boots. Multitasking was essential in the blustery backcountry, I took turns between breaking down camp, preparing breakfast and coffee, and tending to a smaller fire to warming up my hands.
The trail was even more beautiful and tranquil than it was yesterday (with the exception of the little turd of a Scotty terrier than ran past me and nipped my pinky!) and the cardinals seemed even brighter than usual as I watched them court among the trees. Dinner last night was Yellow Curry with chicken & rice, courtesy of Rory and Leslie who kindly gave me an abundance of my favorite freeze dried meal! Yesterday was a mixture of tending to the fire, jamming out to some folk tunes, and sipping on mix & match 6-pack of locally crafted beer. Later in the evening I snacked on some venison links. I lit my UCO lantern around 5:30 last night, and was surprised it was still burning away well into the morning! It was a great little wintry getaway, another one for the books!
TL;DR version:

Beautiful! And I enjoyed the beer reviews. :)
More to come!
What a fun solo adventure! I wish I'm as self-sufficient and brave as you. I'm amazed how you were able to carry all the supplies you had 👍
I only recently got into winter backpacking, I was searching for another thing I could enjoy during the long Michigan winters. I definitely recommend it! I like doing little overnighters at Blind Lake since it's easy to stash extra provisions like firewood at the dirt road crossing before hiking in 🙂
So mad that I didn't join! Super cool! Youll have to show me how to put together a video so I can start making some 😂🤙
Absolutely! See ya Thursday @ midnight for that long cold run haha. I can definitely give ya some easy tips on simple video editing 😄
This was sooo cool (no pun intended!) I was strongly considering coming here as well, but took a different (and much less enjoyable) journey! So, did anyone else show up to the camp? Thanks for sharing the “fun”, I truly appreciate it! (Btw, I’m formally going to attempt the HCP sometime this year, nothing concrete yet, but you are welcome to join!)
Too funny, I was just commenting on your Shingle Mill video about that exactly! And what a trip it would have been had you showed up to Blind Lake the same day haha. One other guy did show up around 8:30pm with his dog and set up camp nearby and hung out by the fire for a little bit.
Oh, and one more thing, my folks live not 20 minutes from the HCP, I'm sure they'd be happy to drop a resupply at Clear Lake State Park around the halfway point, making it possible to pack lighter. I also know a few good places to eat in the area after the trip.
@@jeremysart I’ll hit you up and give you my details. We can make something happen, for sure. 👍
@@jeremysart The resupply definitely sweetens the pot! lol!!
