  • We just received in the new updated 2023 Marin Rift Zone 1 27.5 trail bikes!
    For 2023 the Rift Zone gets some new changes to the frame and suspension. The frame has been redesigned for 2023. The head tube angle gets more slack by 1 degree, and the seat tube angle gets steeper by 2 degrees. The wheelbase has also been stretched out which should make it more stable at speeds but maintain the quick, snappy turn in that the Rift Zone is known for. #bikingroots, #marinbikes, #marinriftzone,
    For $1799 you get a lot of bang for your buck with the Rift Zone. 140mm of travel now up front (up 10mm from the last generation. You also get 10mm of additional rear travel compared to last year.
    Marin also made a change to the fork for 2023. Gone is the Rockshox Recon, and in comes the X Fusion Sweep 34 which provides beefier diameter stanchions (34mm vs 32mm).
    We’ve always enjoyed the Marin Rift Zones and they have been one of our best selling bikes at our shop. They are a great beginner full suspension trail bike for those looking to upgrade from an older full squish mountain bike or an older hard tail.
    For more information on the higher end Rift Zone 2 trim, see this video we did on the specs. Biggest difference between the two trims is the 2 version gets a higher end Marzocchi Bomber Z2 fork, lockout Rockshox shock in the back, dropper post, and Shimano 12 speed drivetrain.

    Nice to see Marin updating the Rift Zone. I'd be more interested in Marin bikes if they had more options for buying bare frames, that way I can equip the bike my way. Of course I can say the same thing about other manufacturers as well.

      I know right?! Yeah Marin for whatever reason has always given the least expensive bikes cooler colors and also more color options than the more expensive bikes. I would think it would be the other way around but I guess that's me!

    • @BikingRoots
      @BikingRoots  Před rokem +1

      Thanks, sorry! I should have clarified that the 27.5 is the frame that got the biggest changes. It used to be 66.5 and the 29er changed to 65.5 a few years back. For 2023, the 29er got a steeper seat tube and a bit longer wheelbase, but the 27.5 got slacker and a steeper seat tube. Thanks

  • @felixsumpay6230

    Is the back axel not too thin for heavy trails? Might have to upgrade to a through axel straight away

    • @BikingRoots
      @BikingRoots  Před rokem

      If you are a bigger guy or a very hard rider that jumps all the time, you may end up bending an axle. Thru axle is stiffer and easier to take on and off but they cost a bit more (for the wheel w/ a thru axle hub) so Marin doesn’t spec it on the base model

    Excellent quality/price bike. How much would it cost to put a dropper post? thank you

    • @BikingRoots
      @BikingRoots  Před rokem +1

      Dropper post prices vary but on average we do the dropper, a generic bearing lever, and install from anywhere. from $175- 240

    With your experience the 2022 or 2023 is better? Thank you so much

    • @BikingRoots
      @BikingRoots  Před rokem

      Spec wise the 2023 is much better. I like the thinner frame, new geometry (for the 27.5) and the steeper seat tube. Which color do you like better? You can get the 2022 for a pretty good price right now if you can find one in your size.

    • @BikingRoots
      @BikingRoots  Před rokem +1

      I know that’s been a complaint of mine for years with them. For whatever reason they like to give the lower end models the nice colors (and multiple options), then you go up in trim and get less options. Doesn’t make sense but I’m sure they have their reasons

  • @EricMarenyi
    @EricMarenyi Před rokem

    Question is how do you think this compares to the Norco FS4. Seems like the specs on the Norco is a bit superior.

    • @BikingRoots
      @BikingRoots  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the question. Yes the FS4 Norco has a few things that make it worth the extra $200 like a dropper post, rear thru axle w/ 148 boost spacing (the RZ 1 frame is boost compatible but has a less expensive non thru axle rear hub). And the FS4 comes with 4 piston brakes and better tires. The advantage the Rift Zone has is 27.5 wheel options which some people prefer especially small/shorter riders. You can get an XS rift zone 1 which is nice. The Rift Zone 2 is very expensive now though at $2400 so we feel we have the Rift Zone 1 as a great entry level option, the Norco Fluid FS4 as your in the middle option, and the RZ2 as your nicer option.
