- While most My Little Pony OCs and ponysonas are far from being thought of as 'official', there are a select few MLP OCs that really can be considered canon; due to them actually appearing in My Little Pony itself. I'm going to go over who these pony OCs are, who created them, and how they even got into My Little Pony in the first place.

I just don’t really understand why they wouldn’t allow staff OCs. It fills out the background and gives the staff a little shoutout
Hasbro was strict when it came to allowing staff OCs because they wanted to make sure that the designs of the ponies were consistent with the rest of the already existing ponies.

the thing you have to understand is that mlp is a show run only to sell toys. hasbro is a corporation, like disney, among other things. if they don’t get money out of these designs, they don’t want them to appear in the show
@@capiest I mean I suppose so. But the background characters aren't meant to be advertisements, really. They're there... for the background. So I don't know what harm having their own designs would bring unless they drew too much attention from the main characters.

Seeing a kid with a My Little Pony oc on a forum say that their dad works at Hasbro for MLP and they’ll get their oc on a show sounds like the biggest fib of all time 😂 Glad it wasn’t though, I love Midnight Srike’s design ⚡️
Given that an episode may take more than a year (from the "locked script", through animation to the first airing on tv); she was likely just announcing something that was already "set in stone" (but would still take time to actually happen) she was just informed; rather than "I am going to convince him to do this later".
Midnight Strike is definitely my third favorite OC talked about in this video.

I used to HATE Woah Nelly until he said that she was referred to by production as the “love yourself pony.” I saw her as just a stereotype on fat people, how they made her comically large and self-absorbed. I never thought of her as being a symbol for self-acceptance.
Imagine hating on someone for so long and then realizing sometime later that the thing you hated them for was actually the thing that made them cool.

it’s really interesting to hear abt how people working on mlp:fim weren’t allowed to put in their own ocs/sonas in crowd shots, because that’s a really common thing in modern cartoons nowadays - crew members making their own show-sonas that you’ll see in crowd shots for seasons
Yeah it is pretty interesting. Technically speaking they weren't totally not allowed to put their OCs/sonas in the show, they just had to get a lot of approval from higher ups and whatnot.
It's a shame they didn't allow it considering they had to reuse bg ponies for a lot of shots where it didn't make sense to be. Like a ponyville pony can be seen in the episode of the crystal empire returns, she could have been replaced by an oc to fit in

If I was making a show like this I would 100% let my staff put their ocs in the back ground lmao (as long as they aren’t over the top and fit in with the world)
I would too honestly lol, but the thing is that DHX didn't want to upset Hasbro by adding in ponies that they did not approve of. So they had to refrain from it :/

Another fact about Peachy Pitt. She was originally supposed to be green, or have some of her hair green. But Hasbro told her "Green doesn't sell." (Which is why Lyra and Minty from older gens were so popuar...)
Whoa! I didn't know Rainbow Harmony was an OC. I remember seeing her in episode(s?) and being like "Wow what pretty colors for this pony, she stands out." Definitely a good name for that design too.
There is a lot of OCs that got into the show, actually.
Them appearing in the comics or multiple times in the series in the background makes it feel like they're still in the world, living their own lives, doing their own things.
And I guess they are, same with the real people.
Kinda reminds me of the Pokemon anime.

It breaks my heart to see BC-LS pass away from lung cancer, but I did get the opportunity to have one of the IDW artists mail them a watercolor painting of her character Sunrise Glisten!

What a fun video. Most of these characters I didn't even know where OC's. You learn something new everyday, even if it's the most obscure pony facts lol.
I'm thinking that maybe Peachy Pitt's reference sheet or model since she and Holly Dash were made by using premade assests was saved to the shared files of other animators or artists and was used on accident instead of another background pony. Maybe it was the person with the shirt of her adding her in as a cameo or a vetran decided her colors would fit best for a vendor. I honestly am leaning towards my first theory of that she got left in the shared files with bg pony assests and designs and animated without knowing.
That theory definitely could be possible honestly, but it's a little hard to tell because neither of us know the exact details of how it happened or anything lol. Thanks though

i have angel wings in the gameloft game and i had no idea she was an oc, must be so cool for them to get their ocs not only in the show but in the game and comics too [and official merch in holly dash's case!]

Another thing that’s kind of interesting is that some of these ponies made it into the MLP Gameloft game “My Little Pony: Magic Princess”, namely Wild Fire, Angel Wings, Rainbow Harmony, and Bittersweet. I think I remember seeing Midnight Strike in the game too.
Edit: There’s an event going on in the game right now where Peachy Pitt is a part of a bundle.
I guess it's a good and bad thing they didn't allow OCs in the show. On the one hand it's cool to have your OC make an appearance, but on the other hand the second they appear in the episode they belong to Hasbro and they can do whatever they want with them, including making toys you get no profit from. So it stops being your character and starts being theirs. I'd be a little sad to have a character I can't do anything with cause someone else owns them.
Yeah. I think Hasbro didn't care too much if you personally used your OC in casual ways, but it probably be safe to not use them in any commercial way wherein you are earning a notable level of income or something.
I love Stellar Eclipse so much!! I was so happy to see him and have him be representation to kids with wheel chairs :DD
When you brought up Wild Fire, I suddenly remembered the Living Tombstone remix of the song about that character. I’d forgotten about it for so long!

@@ElectroEidos He was unaware that she was the ponysona O.C. of one of the artists at DHX when he wrote the lyrics of the song.
He deleted that song as part of a general "cleaning image" of any older pony stuff (not because of a Cease & Desist); in a fruitless attempt to not be remembered as the "Discord song guy" (it is not even his song!).
-> All of the pony content that is still in his CZcams channel has contributions from other artists (he still respect their previous accords by keeping this original uploads).

Thanks! And I considered mentioning Luminous Dazzle here, but I decided not to because it's G5 and this video is about Gen 4 OCs, and plus the whole situation was too recent imo. I will probably mention her in a future video though.

Stello eclipse had to be one of my favorite designs, I love how the black and purple goes with the brown which I didn’t know could be a pretty good color combo if using the right shades
I want to add few words from myself. There is also one OC that appears in the G5 MLP - Luminous Dazzle. The creator won a contest and therefore her OC is now canon in the show.
Yes I'm aware, though that is G5 so I decided to not talk about it here.

I remember seeing a post on the german brony forum where someone said they ripped off her OC. her OC looked almost spot on like peachy pitt and even had "peach" somewhere in the name and now i see that even peachy pitt was an OC omg... i guess you can only be this original with default mane mlp OCs until someone makes a clone unintentionally

Not only Angel Wings is in Gameloft mlp game. All of the canon oc ponies from are in the game except for the 2 stallions and Nelly. Very fun video

My MLP persona, NightSong is… A female Pegasus. 😂 I created her in 2013 when I was 16. OC’s are so fun to make. I’m still doing it to this day.
Angel wings has been my favorite forever! I saw her and fell in love with her design, I was so shocked at how gorgeous she is!
I do like the playful nod the Comic artists gave by having Rainbow Harmony and Trusty Splender directly interact in a comic Panel. Thats a neat reference, I gotta say.
This was neat to watch. Been getting back into MLP and just bought the wonderbolt handbook and class photos of Midnight (and the scene with her flying through the loops) & Wildlife (with her correct mane) is in the book.
Angel wings isn't in the book but I guess it's because the book came out on July 2016, while the episode came out in oct that same year.

This video was super cool!! I remember hearing/seeing stuff about a few of the OCs on this list, most notably Midnight Strike and Stellar Eclipse, but I never thought to look into who actually was behind them being in the show. Also, when I watched that scene from the wedding episode I always thought Wildfire looked different from other background ponies, but despite my suspicions, I think she was just generic enough for me to think she was a normal bg pony, so it's pretty neat to have that feeling validated lol
I think we should name the blue unicorn pony “Princely”

In the uk there was a magazine contest where you can draw an oc and have them featured in an episode I'm not sure if it was tell your tale or mKe your mark but it was a competition and the best one was getting to be an episode maybe that where luminous dazzle comes from?
Luminous Dazzle came from something similar to what you described, but it was a magazine in Sweden instead.

Glad you mentioned Andy Price's OC. I don't think anyone has talked about his OC being in the show when making videos about MLP cameos! However I didn't know Katie Cook was also in the episode!
Also unfortunate mention: while Sabrina denied it she also put her husband Mandopony In a season 4 episode before the finale. In Equestria Games you can see a pony in the crowd just like his pony with the same coat colors, same green eye color, with the exact same mane, and tail style and colors but with a cherry cutie mark instead of his guitar cutie mark!
Yeah, Katie Cook was in there, pretty cool. And yeah I am already aware of the Mandopony OC. Due to the person in question being a legitimately awful human being, I ultimately decided it was not appropriate to include the OC in the video.

It is "strategically smart" to have a pegasus O.C. because those can appear literally anywhere [it increases the chance of getting a cameo onscreen], while unicorns & earth ponies are restricted by default to land_based settings.

Your way of speaking sounds unbelievably familiar. I knew a kid in 6th grade who spoke the exact same way and when asked about his voice I believe he said he talked like that as a joke for so long it eventually just stuck. It’s a very unique way of speaking I never thought I’d hear it again but it reminded me of an old friend so thanks lol

i believe code red actually shows up at the end of the movie too, though i dont remember if he spoke at that point or was just part of the crowd. i remember wondering why he stuck out so much, i mean, its rare that ponies have facial hair, so i looked him up and found this stuff out :]

Honestly I get why Hasbro wasn’t too keen on having staff ocs in the show but honestly I think a lot of them looked really cool. I think my favorite one of the batch you talked about was probably Midnight Strike since not only that was a banger oc name but the oc kinda reminds me of my first mlp oc (she was a yellow and green Pegasus named Autumn Heart. She was named after her cutie mark which was a green paw but the in the middle circle was a heart) and when I made her (I was pretty young when I came up with her) I pictured her going to the wonder bolt academy too but she left since she wasn’t good at it

I would like to give a big shout out to Rainbow Harmony for the sole reason of being similar to my own self insert oc as a child. I was absolutely thrilled to see her in the episode and even more so to learn that she was an oc! Oc creator supporting oc creator!!!

why are so many of them female pegasi? it seems like it would be easiest to sneak in earth ponies, since 90% of the time is spent on the ground and earth ponies seem to be more common than pegasi and unicorns
people just like to make pegasus OCs in general i guess lol
@@TobbyMLP pegasi are weird. they fly with tiny wings, are sometimes disabled and unable to fly even though their flying ability is obviously magical, and they have the very random ability to walk on clouds.
