I’m glad Lauren Faust decided to change Rainbow Dash’s personality from a fashion pony to a more tomboyish character. There was no way someone in the production team in G3 saw that original design and said “Rainbow DASH”. It could refer to how “dashing” G3 Rainbow Dash was meant to be thanks to her fashion sense but I find it odd instead of creative. G4 Rainbow Dash was hands down better. “Rainbow Dash always dresses in style” lives rent free in my head still 😭

I've always been fascinated by Surprise! I would've loved to see Pinkie as a pegasus. It would've been so fun!

When Twilight became a princess, I was 12 years old and was confused and upset. Twilight didn't show many qualities leading up to this point to receive such a title, or even earn those wings. Sure, she learned lessons and qualities from her friends and the elements of harmony, but she RARELY projected what she has learned into later episodes. In Magically Mystery Cure, we clearly see she isn't at all ready to take on such a role. Twilight continues to ignore Spike as he's giving her ideas to help, in the scene during Celestias Ballet, the animators kept scenes in from previous episodes where, if you revisit the scene, there's nothing note-worthy about Twilight earning such a role. in later seasons, like 6-9 (including the movies) she continues to be an inconsiderate character who thinks she has all the answers. Pushing into season 9 and watching that final episode, I never, NEVER felt that Twilight earned a role as princess. Twilight is amazing at magic but is horrible with friendship. All the work is done by the mane 6 but Twilight gets all the credit? It was also aggravating seeing how they treated Twilight vs the mane 6 in later seasons, where it quite literally changed from "We'll win together as friends!" to "don't worry, Twilight is here to save the day!!" I feel like the mlp fandom has just accepted Twilight as a princess and accepted that she wouldn't ever return back to normal, so nobody is angry or upset anymore. When, from Lauren Faust herself, expressed that Twilight wasn't planned on being a princess, at least not so early into the show. I wouldn't dislike Twilight as a princess if M.A. Larson had just kept the episode for a much later season, so the viewers can watch Twilight grow and act on those lessons of friendship she has learned. Wait to relese the episode till we get to actually see Princess Celestia and Princess Luna slowly growing weaker and losing their connection to the elements. We didn't get to see any of that. We just got some wings slapped on the focused character, and Hasbro made money from low-quality toys.

Maybe that "silly costume" is the closest to the truth, Luna also wore a hooded robe costume

I only recently got into MLP so haven't seen any of these commercials but I can only imagine the shock of hearing completely different VA's doing official voices for the character's you grew up with out of nowhere lol. That "come fly with me" was so out of character for Celestia, I guess the show needed to sell toys to survive but wow I can see why people think MLP is a super girly show with ads like that lmao.

I'm a 98 baby, and FiM was just starting as I became old enough to be bullied for. I do love G1 with nostalgia, and have ended up catching up with FiM, initially for the nostalgia - I have some of the early lauren faust books involving the mane six. I think it's interesting how things like the Flutterponies disappeared in further gens, as did all of their civilisations.

Actually I really loved the nerdy design of Twilight Twilke. It fits her so much.

My main issue with the MLP trading cards is that they aren't as artistically focused as I would hope. Yes you have those cards that use contest art but I wish all the mlp trading cards were like that. I mean Hasbro owns wotc, who do mtg, which has plenty of drawn artwork on the cards. It is a bit of a shame that those kind of cards are the exception and not the norm for mlp cards. The Kayou cards are definitely a step up. My previous gripe remains, as Kayou also mainly utilizes official vectors and stills from the show, but they are at least more visually interesting. On top of that, their SCs from more recent sets are beginning to lean more into an artistic focus. The stained glass SCs from their 4th set are definitely my favorites. My hope is they continue leaning into that more! I definitely have a severe need for those cards with fanart in them now...

I’m pretty sure the creators of mlp wanted to have gay ships (but hasbro didn’t let them) and to make background ponies look at each other in such ways or even proposing in the background was a good way to hide it. Mlp listens to their fandom and that ultimately makes it a great show

It makes sense. They said alicorn weren’t typically born they were all “made” which is why Cadance’s and Shining Armor’s child Flurry Heart being born an Alicorn was abnormal. It was foreshadowed from the beginning due to her being Princess Celestia’s student, and her having Spike, who we learned she hatched.

When I saw it, the only thing I didn’t like was that her friends bowed to her when she became an alicorn since it made it seem that they were beneath her now. That was the only detail that really upset me during the whole thing and during the time, I was in high school, so I wasn’t exactly the target demographic. I wasn’t really up in arms about it too much though I don’t think
