Warren. Nothing more needs to be said.
How he hasn't even been nominated for the Rock Hall is beyond any words.
2 fucking words, bubba~
#JannWenner
Another useless retread from the old days of Rock&Roll.
Hunter Thompson knew him for the boot-licking puppet he became, after he got a little notoriety & ca$h.
I am finishing an article for Glide Magazine on this very travesty and will post a link when it's live
hey, maaannnn~ i was just checking my old mail & was wondering if that article is up & readable yet, eh?
will be soon and will post a link
"kewl"
looking forward to it~
heh heh guess I was "feeling my oats" w/that 1st comment~ you think it's true that JW has been the major (roadblock/blackballer) obstructor, or would that be a spoiler for the piece~!??
Ross Warner
Y'know, for some songs, you can never have TOO many guitarists.
Such a talent, his songs just don't age
Springsteen song
@@Marklevasseur1960 So?? His cover
@@Marklevasseur1960 Check the lyrics to see who wrote the song, and it attributed to Bruce and Warren,
Warren's version of this song was the first time I heard this song until Bruce did his own version and I have to say, I love and miss Warren tremendously
I always loved this song- - so I was shocked when I heard it on Springsteen’s new album! But now I understand the history. I miss Warren Zevon. I think this was my favorite of his.
wow 40 years to the date! God bless you Warren!!
Three guitars PERFECT!!!!!!
I can think of only one guy who mentions gun(s) and shooting as much as Warren in his songs, and that guy is Marty Robbins. This concert is about 3 months from the genius, Marty Robbins' death. RIP to Warren and Marty - you don't know how much you are missed.
big iron
@@tlcity Would be really cool to see Warren and Marty performing together.
Marty had an incredible voice
I saw him on Letterman what would be his last interview .. he had been diagnosed terminal and didn't have much time left . Dave ask if he had any advise he said yea "enjoy every sandwich" .... I think about that now and then and try to enjoy ... it all
53 yrs
Always sing along over this great underrated song
I LOVE Warren Zevon! I guess I should say loved. He wrote a song about one of my all time favorite baseball players, Bill Lee, but that's definitely not the only reason!!
Incredible!!!
Fucking Beautiful!!!!!
Hotline Bling has about ten million likes, this has 151. The world I live in doesn't make sense to me anymore. One thing is for sure, I got into Zevon too late. This guy was legendary.
I've been playing guitar, bass, piano, mandolin & banjo (kind of shittilly (for the time being, I swear it!) But now that I make most of my bread bartending and playing music. It's only now that I'm in my thirties that I realize that Warren is BY FAR, WITH A GODDAMNED BULLET, HANDS DOWN MY FAVORITE AND BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON MY LIFE, and unfortunately my taste in fast women and strong drink. I love this man, R.I.P.
That's not even to mention his relationship with David Letterman and more especially Paul Shaffer.
I see a future for you.
Love u Warren
Brilliant.
He was humble
The two musicians that Keith Richards regretted not playing with were Warren and Otis Redding. Keith always gets it.
Q maravilha !
Yaye mine this year
I agree that it is a travesty he's not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
I still miss Warren, I was driving through Italy when I heard of his passing, My wife phoned the Hotel I was going to be staying at in Turin, I just broke down.
REAL rAND r:THANKS WARREN
Favorite yaye
Warren left this planet far too early there was so much more he would have contributed to our lives. And as such a horrible illness too die from. Cancer has claimed far too many members of my family including my Mother when I was fourteen years old
4 degrees C. Foggy down at the Mouth of the Mighty Fraser. Canada, that is.
Play at 1.25 speed for a sweet alternate version
Damn... thanks!
Fantastic recommendation
Can’t stress enough how much of a godsend stumbling on this comment was, I’ve done it a half dozen times in 2 days
Sounds like some elvis costello garbage haha still cool
hes up there jammin with Joe strummer
Took me minute
Yaye
I'd love to know more about this touring line-up. This show has got to be among the best concerts on CZcams, and yes I say that in part because it's a Zevon show...but...they sound PERFECT and they just just look so damn comfortable on stage playing together. Who is everyone? Did Zevon use these guys on the road a lot? Is there footage of any of these guys backing other folks? May all of us find something that brings us as much joy as the bass player and his phenomenal mullet appear to get from playing bass :)
I am not sure. But for his live Stand in the Fire tour/album he actually used a band that covered his music. Pretty cool
cool
it's a helluva drug
You don't have to trash Springsteen to love Zevon, or vice versa. Different versions of Bruce's original idea, and both worthwhile. Zevon was certainly a loss much, much too soon.
That's just the way it goes.
Nothing against Bruce. It is just that Warren and Marty Robbins are way better IMHO.
Is this tune somehow related to Aerosmith's "Janie's Got a Gun" ?
Its like Jesus came down and partied ...
Love the tune. The guy playing the old Led Paul Junior is quite possibly the best player I've ever seen! Would love anyone to tell me more about what other projects he has worked on.
+John Harrington That is most likely Waddy Wachtel.
+John Harrington The guy playing the LP Jr. is Randy Brown and definitely not Waddy. He looks nothing like Waddy, and Waddy hasn't changed his look in 35 years.
Randy Brown is on the right playing a regular les paul.(he's barely in this video) the lead guitarist that it keeps showing with the lp jr. is John Wood. and yes he's one of the greatest ever.
He also played Harm Rabb on "JAG."
As in "Here's Johnny . . ." from Johnny Strikes up the Band at this concert.
Is Bt only for preemies now?
Better than Jackson Browne, Springsteen and all the other "heartland rockers." Yet the most unappreciated .

Why does she *need* one?
damn straight lady but this gotta be top 40 X
no
The original werewolf
What's the story here? He's in love with a drug addict and she turned on him?
He fell in love with a woman and he thought she loved him, so they planned to run off together, but he is gunned down by her father while waiting for her. He was played by both of them as they ride off with his money.
Springsteen would have given his ball to sound like this.
And Zevon would like to have written this song. They were good friends and mutual admirers.
TRUMP FOREVER
Warren rewrote this song... the Springsteen version is unrecognizable.
TRUMP FOREVER He did write this. Springsteen’s version was called Janie needs a shooter, and was totally different. Warren liked the title so much that he borrowed it, changed Janie to Jeannie and they wrote this version together.
@@justinstearns9723 True story
And now we finally get to hear what The Boss does with this song on his new album...does he rewrite it entirely, pay homage to Zevon's classic version, or re-record his own unreleased version from 77's Darkness outtakes.
A lovely cover version of Bruce Springsteen's original.
No it isn't. Zevon wrote this.
You mean Janey Needs a Shooter? Not the same song. The title did inspire WZ however, and BS helped him write Jeannie. www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/15-insanely-great-bruce-springsteen-songs-youve-never-heard-17760/janey-needs-a-shooter-1978-13491/
@@williambement4166 "All right, now you probably know that I wrote this song with a friend of mine. I've been very fortunate in life with friends , I got a lot of good friends, good people. Ok, you probably know this story, we both wrote this song. And I'll tell you it's true....God created the world and the earth, the sky, the heavens and the creatures and the snakes and the seas and everything in six days, and on the seventh day he rested, but he got out for a little while in the afternoon. And he said "because I love these people SO much, I'm gonna give them one Bruce Springsteen. "
Now, Jeannie Needs A Shooter!"
Warren Zevon, Tower Theatre, Philadelphia, 22/04/80.
Vedder 1992
He rewrote it with suggestions from Springsteen, but Springsteen’s version is not the same as Warrens rewritten version. The melody was also rewritten.
Read what I wrote
:46 he forgets the lyrics lol
No he didn't. That's how the song goes.
Lyrics, like the key signature, are merely a suggestion!
That’s how the song goes, Warren almost never forgot lyrics, and on the rare occasion he did, he would throw in a pop culture reference.
