This is my favorite Stevie Wonder song. I'm a bassist and the bass playing coming from Nathan Watts is nothing short of inspirational. Your drumming is always spot-on with every song that you choose.

Sina, I just LOVE your ”touch”! I’ve told you before; the way you PLAY the drums rather than whack the living daylights out of them. It becomes so very obvious in this clip, where you make your drums talk for you, with you, rather than combating them as though they were your enemies. You make them all come together in concerted harmony with a touch that is as beautifully youthful and feminine as yourself. You have the sensitivity of a classical concerto pianist playing Chopin when you play the drums, it’s a real pleasure to listen to. Thanks!

No Major Write-Up Again, Just Another Rosanna Mini Version
THE SONG - "Sir Duke" was written and performed by American musician Stevie Wonder. It appears as the fifth track on side one of Wonder's 18th album 'Songs in the Key of Life', which was a double album. Recording of the album took place between 1974 to 1976 mostly at Hollywood's Crystal Sound Studio. There were also sessions recorded at the Record Plant in LA, the Record Plant in Sausalito, and The Hit Factory in New York. The final mix was done at Crystal Sound.
'Songs in the Key of Life' was released on Sept 28, 1976. "Sir Duke" was released as a single in Mar 1977. It was the third of five singles from the album. Earlier singles were "I Wish" (Dec 1976) and "Isn't She Lovely (Feb 1977 - internationally but not released as a single in the US). "Sir Duke" was followed by "Another Star" (Aug 1977) and "As" (Oct 1977).
'Songs in the Key of Life' was a major hit reaching #1 on the Billboard 200. It was also #1 in Canada and the Netherlands, #2 in the UK and top 10 in New Zealand, Norway and Sweden. In Austria it reached #15 and in Germany #23. "Sir Duke", surpassed the commercial success of "I Wish". It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 (spending three weeks at the top starting on May 21) and the R&B chart (for one week, starting on May 28).
The song's title refers to the late jazz bandleader Duke Ellington who had been a major influence on Wonder. It's a tribute not only to Ellington but to music and the musicians who create it. In the lyrics, Wonder also mentions [Count] Basie, [Glenn] Miller, "Satchmo" (Louis Armstrong), and Ella [Fitzgerald].
FUN FACT - The lead guitarist on this track is Michael Sembello who had a major hit with the song "Maniac" from the soundtrack of the movie Flashdance. Sembello worked with Stevie Wonder previously on 'Fulfillingness' First Finale'. He plays on most of the tracks on 'Songs in the Key of Life' and co-wrote the song "Saturn" with Wonder.
If you haven't heard (and I'm told it's no secret), Sina auditioned on Monday for the Jazz and Pop course at ArtEZ in Anheim. She was required to learn a jazz solo and improvise and she also had to play a Snare Etude. Needless to say, she passed the audition! Congratulations!
Take a look at Sina's subscriber count - 891k. Remember when everyone was so jazzed at 100k? 1M seemed like a loooong way off! It's comin'!

Hi Lonnie and Tris. Yeah, this Holy Week is quite challenging particularly figuring out what dishes we can make with what we have at hand. Are any of the Germans here observing Gründonnerstag for Maundy Thursday? It's something we "inherited" from a high school classmate several years ago whose mom was half German. They invited me for lunch and had green soup made from spinach and other greens. Luckily we had a can of spinach (Popeye didn't get to it!) and tonight we made a spicy spinach dish!

Yes, SINA is reviving the old days. What wonderful music was written and recorded back then can only be dreamed of today. Such classics no longer exist today. It was probably because access to the music was then more difficult than today. Nevertheless, it is wonderful that SINA is bringing this music back to us, recorded professionally as always, thank you for the cover and thank you to everyone involved.

Sir Duke, Superstition and my favorite "I just called to say I love You" are great songs from one of the true masters, Stevie Wonder. Once again Sina did not disappoint. Keep up the great music.

I have been hearing this song for decades and never knew it was called "Sir Duke" I would have guessed "you can feel it all over" ... lol ... I like the way you mix up the genres, keep living the dream !!

You seem happier since you become a master at what you play. In other words, you don't worry about technique. You know it. Motor/muscle skills. You are like paddling a canoe with your eyes closed feeling the wind. You know when to paddle left or right by the wind in your face. It's been great watching you become a great humble drummer over the years. Your light smiles bring spiritual happiness to your viewers. Why? We see the wind in your face and you know what to do to happily continued forward.

Way to go Sina! Great uplifting choice of song in this sad time. Love the sound of your drums, makes it seem like I'm watching and listening to you live in my home. Happy Easter to you and your family!

Sina's right in the groove, and I feel it all over! I love that double note on the snare at the end of each intro and bridge. The lightning-fast rolls down the toms are very tasty too -- check out around 3:30 for some sweet fills.
