- Just a quick take on Dire Straits' Money For Nothing. The original drum part sounds very compressed with a big 80s reverb on the toms. I decided to go for a more natural sound, hope you like it :)

Spot on Sina, although the Only bit on this song I played was the Intro, as Omar couldn;t get it like Mark wanted, but he did everything else on the whole Brothers in Arms Album, and he loved his reverb, Mark Wanted a more of a Jazz Drum sound, suited me I had a couple of Months off :) This is superb though, pity you wasn;t around in 1985, Id of Relinquished my seat for a guest drummer, so talented, so young.....wunderbar!!!!!

BTW, when I covered Sultans Of Swing I tried to recreate the drum part in the way that you played the song live, which is quite different to the studio version of course. Mr Williams, it's a very interesting fact about how you became involved on this de facto anthem for MTV (when the M stood for Music, lol). It was also kind of you for your wonderful comments of Miss Sina's talent. If past is prose (and every one of her previous drum covers can attest) she'd have knocked that audition right out of the park. Thank you again Sir for your comment!!

That MTV t-shirt is so perfect for this song. I remember when cable tv came to my house here in Finland. It was early 80's and this song was one of my favourites in MTV. Later my brother bought really good KEF loudspeakers and hi-quality turntable. I bouth legendary Borhers in arms LP and I use to listen it again and again with his equipments. So nice memories from the golden 80's when computers (C64), cable TV came. Summer was summer and everything was so straight and easy in living. I really miss that time of my life. I know all 80's teens do same.

here goes.....I'm 71 and was there for all the greats (worked for Graham Productions, handed out apples at the Filmore, hung out in the panhandle and the Haight, shared a bottle or two with Jan ice at Basin Street West. Your talent is spot on and brings back floods of wonderful times listening to the greatest from back of stage, culminating with the Eagles in 76. Stay the course beautiful and stay true to the music......and hope the praise from an old rocker will inspire you to further heights. Love you.....ranks for the memories!

This takes me way back, when I was in school, when this was first was released ... not many loved Dire Straits, but a drummer friend,, of mine in school in the same year as me, along with my dad, got me into them, and never looked back ...
Sadly my friend passed away a year or so ago, aged only 43; pretty sure he used to play this as practice all the time; so am sure he would love your playing ...

I realise this video has been out there for a while, but I had to comment. This drum intro is one of my all-time favourites, it can't be easy to play by any measure, and you just nailed it. Great fills too, and your groove is perfect. I can't blame you for a couple of smiles sneaking out after pulling off some brilliant bars in this piece! Really well done, thank you for playing this - I can't believe it was 7 years ago - and kudos for the appropriate t-shirt too!

When this was a hit, hardly anyone in the UK had MTV. I was a kid then and had to ask my Mum what it was and was amazed to learn that there was a TV channel that just played music videos. Hardly anyone had cable or satellite TV then (I think that was just before the Sky/BSB war).

And the animation was cutting edge. (And they were at the time.) Man, my friends and I would each MTV for hours hoping our favorite videos would come on. Then they'd announce a world premier video coming up Tuesday at 12am. (eastern time of course.) And we'd have to stay up because there weren't any dvr's and only "rich" families had vcr's and could record the videos. Like the opening song from All in the Family. "Those were the days." Oh, I almost forgot. Man she's talented!
I remember those days...the first video I remember seeing on it was Bohemian Rhapsody. It made me an instant Queen fan. I listen often to the blue CD I have of them, it's stuck in my CD player permanently...Just have to click the Start button...

I then remember, and still have on videotape the Moscow Music Peace Festival, which was the first sign of the impending collapse of the former Soviet Union and a much friendlier government (Yes it was much worse than it seems today) opening up to peace through music!

Einfach genial! 👍🧡Hab früher viel Dire Straits gehört, war auf Kasette für sAuto in den 80er!😎Hatte damals nen 🚗Toyota Celica 1978 Lift back, war nen bisschen frisiert😅 Motor trank viel Öl!😅und ich hab nicht regelmässig den Ölstab gezogen, dann kam was kommen musste, und als ich auf m Heimweg war vom Ausgang in Basel🇨🇭 richtung Zürich die Steigung Mölner Höhe bremste mein geliebter Celica plötzlich😢und der Motor machte komische Geräusche...
Kupplung gedrückt und auf den Pannenstreifen gefahren...Morgens um 4 Uhr...meine damalige Freundin hatte nen bisschen bammel.Zum Glück kannte ich die Gegend und mein ältester Bruder wohnte dort 800meter entfernt in Zeinigen.😀Also kletterten wir über den Zaun und gingen an seiner Haustür läuten am Morgen um 4.30ca.😅Er war unsere Rettung und hat uns dann abgeschleppt mit seinem Opel Kadett😂
