    The UMI crossbrace. is just added weight. It may strength load side to side but a Flat support can not support the upward load a coil is going to put on the mount.

    Looking good! Don't break this one.

    Not coated? Bonus! I am not a fan of powder coating, because once/if corrosion starts underneath, it tends to fail rather rapidly. Steel is nowhere near as bad as aluminum in that regard, but I want something I can touch up without disassembly - life happens.
    As for axle lengths... something 68 camaro-ish works well: 255's on a 15" rim with 4" backspacing is right at home. I like the ears being up and out of the way on the rear, plus it squares up travel just a touch.

    Can you tell me if you had any issues with the lower box trailing arms? A stock 12 bolt has a staggered mount, but the Moser looks like the coil over and lower trailing arm mount to the same bracket that's welded to the diff tube. Comments? Guy at Moser stated the welded bracket is moved inward to account for this

    Great vid! I've been thinking of getting the Moser 12 myself. The Global West brackets may be closer to the wheel and tire due to the fact that you got the rear end narrowed an inch?

    • @SS454LS6
      @SS454LS6  Před 5 lety

      Yeah that does make a difference. 60" is the stock width for 64-67 axles, so anyone running 15" wheels for those year of Chevelles will have the same issue.

      If you have Ford ends instead of C clips, then the 4 bolts that hold the retainer behind the brake rotor is what holds the axles in.

    the moser 12 bolt looks good but the upper mounting ears on the the upper control arm mounts look taller than a stock 12 bolt? would this require the use of adjustable upper control arms to get the pinon angle correct? would the longer ears affect the ride height? thanks

    • @SS454LS6
      @SS454LS6  Před rokem

      The ears are raised about 2 inches. This creates an anti-squat situation the same as no-hop bars do. I ran no-hop bars on a stock 12 bolt with stock UCA's and didn't have an issue. Neither will change ride height. In either case, I do recommend adjustable UCA's to ensure correct driveline angles.

    • @SS454LS6
      @SS454LS6  Před 3 lety

      In my case, I had to install the brake lines myself which requires to the brackets to be welded on the chassis. This is the hardest part. Installing it in the chassis is pretty straight forward.

    What ends does Moser put on these 12 bolt rears. Is it a Ford bearing with a GM flange for stock brakes?

    Did you ever get the noisy differential to be quiet? If so what did you do? I have a 1979 Pontiac firebird that I was planning on buying a Moser 12 volt rear end for it but I do not want any noise. Moser is making me a little nervous about this!

      @@SS454LS6 I am actually in the process of trying to deal with Moser right now with concerns about my new 12 bolt housing I purchased for my G body.. I've tried 2 gear sets to find a good pattern, and neither are any good. What I did to start checking is mounted a mag base dial indicator to the pinion gear head, and mounted parallels to the rear face for the diff cover. I am seeing that the pinion definitely isn't machined square in the housing, and is showing the yoke end is up and towards the passenger side. I think there is a problem with the dimensional control with the comany that is machining these housings for Moser.

    • @SS454LS6

      @@shredfest30 Thanks for all the info! Is it just the pinion that is not square, or is the ring gear also not square?

    • @shredfest30
      @shredfest30 Před 6 měsíci

      The ring gear runs true on the carrier, and the carrier bearing depths are the same on both sides of the housing, which tells me that the ring gear is square.@@SS454LS6

    Can anyone comment on the backspacing of these wheels contacting potential with the Global brackets? I have 15x10 rallye's with 5.00 inch backspacing. Probably sticking with 61-3/8 inch width (disk rotor to rotor width according to Bart at Moser). Thanks!

    • @SS454LS6
      @SS454LS6  Před 2 lety +1

      My Moser is 1" narrow (1967 width) but I am currently running 0.5" spacers and under extreme heavy cornering the brackets touch. At least the bolt does. I shaved it as much as I could and then eventually just removed it and welded it. I am using 15x10 with 5.5" BS. 5" BS might be good enough, as long as you dont have clearance issues with the fender.

    • @travispullins1613
      @travispullins1613 Před 2 lety

      @@SS454LS6 Agreed. I might be equivalent on the wheel (5" BS vs your 5.5" w/0.5" spacer) but will make up for it with the extra 1971 width (vs 1967). Bart told me stock w/drum is 61-1/8, and w/new disk 61-3/8. I have already had to roll the fender so I am ok now (8.5-10 bolt BOP). I was going to request to narrow disk width back to drum width, but now I think I am going to leave it alone and deal with the extra 1/4". I have room after the roll of the fender to take the extra 1/4. Thanks for your comment!
