  • How to disassemble and reassemble the Dewalt brushless Roto Hammer DCH273. I originally took this roto hammer apart because it no longer was working. Came to find out the windings inside were extremely dirty and just needed a good cleaning. The warranty was up and figured I give it a go.

    Thanks, helped a lot, after using mine for the first time one of the screws on the motor housing came loose entirely and was rattling around, luckily was enough to get the first shell piece off, but jamming it back together was slightly tricky

    The hammer function in my tool stopped working recently. I put the tool through hell digging out my basement through countless hours of rock & dirt. I have been thinking about trying to take it apart & after your video I feel I can do it. Thanks for sharing!

    This was a great teardown and reassembly of this classic DeWalt drill. Please do a similar video of the DeWalt DCD640 (joist & stud drill). Again one of the best videos I have seen

    Thank you! My drills problem was bad solder connections where the wires terminate at the motor.

    There are two significant additions I would add to this. If you are reassembling the gear box put it in hammer mode and then make sure the pin on the little toggle which is at the back of the drill/hammer switch is correctly seated through the hole and fits correctly when you put on the gear box cover. The second thing is if you do remove the hammer cylinder etc you must put the ball socket through the crankshaft with the three holes in it first (at and angle) and then put the pin back through the hole at back of cylinder. It goes behind a little nib on the crankshaft. Otherwise the pin keeps coming out of the hole and your hammer action either gets stuck or does not work. Failure to do these two things gives you a drill with no hammer action and also a gear box which you will struggle to close correctly.

      Since day one the pin inside the chuck that pushes the bit in and out that makes the hammer function gets stuck. It pushes the bit out and I have to force it back in so it hammers again. Is this normal or is it a problem?
      Thank You!

    • @brianoneill350
      @brianoneill350 Před 3 lety +1

      @@akaredcrossbow when you put the bit in make sure the channel in the bit lines up with the ball inside the chuck. It should click into place and then off you go. The bit should not pop out

    • @akaredcrossbow
      @akaredcrossbow Před 3 lety

      @@brianoneill350 it lines up no problem, but when your chipping there’s no resistance on the bit and the trigger is pulled the pin/rod inside that pushes the bit in the chuck pushes out and jams up the bit in chipping mode. So you have to push the bit in hard so it starts to chip again.

      @@akaredcrossbow does it work if you keep the tool pressed up against the wall or does the bit get stuck in the chuck

    • @akaredcrossbow
      @akaredcrossbow Před 3 lety

      @@brianoneill350 it works if you keep it pressed, but once it isn’t under pressure the bit pushes up(doesn’t fall out) and it won’t chip until you force the bit back in that pushes the pin/rod mechanism inside the chuck back down and then it starts to chip again. The pin/rod inside the chuck pushes up at least half an inch and jams itself

    A great video on the disassembly of the rotary hammer. Is it possible to show how to assemble parts 19 thru 35 on the spindle and how to compress the spring so the clip can be installed. The original washer (35) is too large for the spindle so the clip will not hold it in place. The problem with my hammer was the clip 35 was distorted and no longer attached to the spindle. I don't know it the clip is supposed to retain the washer or not.
