- So begins the first of three parts of our adventure to the Isle of Grain in Kent, joined by fellow Essex CZcamsr - none other than Tom Outdoors. Check out his account of the adventure here: • EXPLORING GRAIN COASTA...
This first part sees ourselves, Tom, and friend Chris venture out into the mouth of the River Thames and Medway to explore Grain Tower - a coastal defence martello tower dating from the 19th Century added onto in the First and Second World Wars. This frankenstein's monster of a structure is both fascinating and distinctly unusual. The next parts of our adventure will be arriving shortly, looking at Grain Dummy Battery (next weekend) and finally the incredible underground tunnels of the long-lost Grain Fort inland.

Well done!
Ten out of ten ! Well done guys.
Cheers glad you’ve enjoyed our Grain series!
Wow just come across your video. My dad used to take us there fishing all night, once your out on it you have to wait until the tide goes back out.
Great memories.
Thank you for such a great video.
Thanks glad you enjoyed and it brought back some happy memories
that bit that we acted out was so cheesy lol i didnt know i was in shot before i come down the steps lol.
Haha was indeed but it I reckon it worked even if it was obvious 😂
Not cheesy at all. It didn't come across that way. The whole video as is a great testament to Grain Fort.
I mean Grain Tower. The other videos are great as well.
Do you think we could take a kayak out to it if the sea is high? Or do you have to wait till the tides full out and walk in the sludge X
Hello - we wouldn’t want to advise on this as we ourselves have had a hairy experience on our kayak! If you’re experienced on going out on tidal water then you may be fine - but don’t take our word for it!
what headlamp are you using fella?
It’s actually just a torch I’m sure, Wilko’s amoured Cree LED cost about £12 very bright!
At any point was you frightened going up them steps to the top of the tower? Tom would love to live on there
Candice B Didn’t find it too bad actually, and I’m not a fan of heights at all!
@@BeyondthePoint your much braver then I am! Cool place tho :) great video as well
Cheers Candice!
