It is not a blessing to have food stamps. It should be embarrassing, it shouldn't be a long term option. If you need them because you aren't willing to work and take care of your kids, then you shouldn't have had kids. And because you did, you should now suffer the consequences. I think people will feel judged using food stamps because it’s seen as a bad stigma. A lot of people fall on hard times and it’s fine to use the help. Only a few cents out of our paychecks go towards foodstamps. And I rather it go to people who need them than to bail out banks.

Took me 2 years to get disability when widowed. No way could work. On a good day could do 3 hours of housework with many breaks. That was it. A stupid battle and lot was a lot of expensive cars and girls pregnant and a few kids with them. They get them right away. I had to sell almost everything to survive waiting. At least house was paid off. Now I get to pay more for less healthcare. Wonderful. I get a little too much for food stamps but you can use them for a garden. Makes money go further growing your own.

People shouldn’t be standing that close to you to be able to notice what kind of card you’re using anyway. I am a cashier, and in my supermarket, if you’re standing at the payment machine, and your shopping cart is to the left of you, then the person behind you will be a good distance away, and they will not see what kind of card you’re using, but if you keep your shopping cart at the right of you, that makes it so that the person behind you can get closer to you. There are ways to keep the customer behind you at a distance, but you can also use your hand to cover up the card. Most people are not even looking at the kind of car you’re using.

I got food stamps during covid. Only time I ever got them, and we needed it. We had an 18 month old and 5 month old. My husband left work because he didn't want to get our newborn sick from COVID (As this was at the very beginning), and they kept making him stay home for 2 weeks at a time because he kept coming in contact with ppl who were testing position on the job site (He's an electrician-If you don't work you don't get paid). And I was a SAHM. I thank God we aren't there anymore (because we make a decent living), however I was embarrassed to have to use them because we both are college educated ppl and we had no income and I felt like I was going to be judged as an irresponsible adult who was just poppin' out babies. We aren't at that point anymore...but I DEF would LOVE TO HAVE THEM AGAIN!!! I got over that embarrassment REAL QUICK!!!! lol

I am thankful and I am not ashamed at all to use my food stamps for my son and I.... I am a single mom and I am work hard.... I feel blessed, lucky, happy and thankful honestly if I did not get my food stamps I don't know what I would do....... If you have been through this I implore you to show sympathy for the obvious problem of being broke which most Americans are. 80% of us are the ‘working poor’ and can’t afford a $2000 emergency without becoming food and housing insecure. Which is a nice way of saying most of us are in danger of starving or being homeless. Without mentioning the health problems of being able to afford medicine when you are broke. Or get any kind of services from people who get paid to help, but prefer to look down on their clients for being poor, or because of other biases that allow them to make logic leaps in order to mistreat people.

Having sympathy for others can help us have sympathy for ourselves. Or ask yourself how you’d feel if someone was critical of you for being hesitant to use your obviously limited resources.

After the pandemic she got laid off from her job and wasn't able to find a new one. She's an older lady and since she couldn't find a job she ended up getting food stamps and she deserves them after working hard for over 25 years. So everyone getting food stamps is not some lazy-assed bum. Some are hard working people who fell on hard times. In my opinion, that who should be getting it. So don't make assumptions.

I have a severely painful hip condition I’ve been trying to get help for 22 years. It’s killing my soul that the drs have neglected me and left me like this. I keep telling them I need to work again Wtf pls help me I hope new surgeon next week helps me. The last few years I had to ask for help for me and my daughter and I hate it. Cause I’m the type that will work 14 hours a day to keep from asking for help. Yet you have able bodied ppl who don’t mind it I do I hate every part of it I want to work. If you’re healthy work hard build your futures cause you never know when bad health will hit. And don’t have more than 1 child until you can afford to take care of them cause more kids mean more poverty especially for us poor.

I don’t know what you’re talking about but I’m a white person on food stamps, and I also work part time, so do not be embarrassed, and please do not put all white people into the same box. It would be nice if you said some white people because when I talk about a black person who has hurt me, I don’t say all Black people. When you say, “these white people “, that is actually very racist. If you hadn’t said anything, I would’ve thought you were white anyway according to your thumbnail. You’re certainly not a black person. I’m a cashier and if you know how many working class people come through on food stamps, you wouldn’t be so cynical about white people. I am sorry for those white people who have made you feel less than. I promise we are not all like that, and if you can have a bad experience, then you can also have a good experience too. We often pick out the negative aspects but we forget about the positive. I’m sure there is a white person who has smiled at you and you just paid no attention. I smile at all my customers and I genuinely mean it. I know it can be fake for some workers, but it’s not fake for me because I truly care.
