    Does anyone know the advantages of palm gouges over normal gouges? I'm guessing the palm gouge is better for lap carving while the longer gouges/chisels are used with a vice. I could be completely wrong! Great video as always, Zed. Just goes to show that valuable contributions to spoon carving don't actually have to be actual spoon carving. Your camera and your presentation add so much to this particular craft and the community involved in it. Be great to see you up here in Scotland.

    • @Zedoutdoors
      @Zedoutdoors  Před 3 lety

      Palm gouges are for more controlled & up personal use, normal gouges are for more leverage / more stock removal. Sincerely appreciate the kind words and I definitely have plans to visit you folk north of the border when circumstances permit ~Peace~

    I can see it now, Zed gets so into spoon designs that in 10 years he drops Outdoors from his name to simply be known as Zed and charging a mortgage for his spoons! Designs by Zed the Faberge of woodworking! He'll be hob-nobbing with kings, queens, heads of state, billionaires, have a two year waiting list for the simplest of his spoons, he'll have forgotten all about us, looking down his nose at us peasants from his Ivory Tower! Way to forget where you came from Zed!!! LOL. Good, instructive video, keep'em coming!

    Zed I have started carving spoons but do not have the proper hatchet. Do you have some suggestions as to what brand I should look for.

    • @Zedoutdoors
      @Zedoutdoors  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Mike tbh in the beginning any hatchet that isn't too heavy in the hand will suffice, depending on the funds you have to hand as a starters hatchet you may want to look at something like a hatchet made by Robin Wood which is quite affordable, the step is a hatchet made by a custom makers like Hans Karlsonn ~Peace~
