In Africa men are the king, they rule their families as the head of the home. They are the ones who are the boss, and women are little more than slaves to their husbands. These men cheat on their wives, and often have more than one wife and many children out of wedlock. His friends cannot comprehend a woman like Emily because thereâs a good chance theyâve never been outside of Cameroon. They are used to things going their way, and Kobe should not play into any of it. He knows heâs chosen a foreign wife and a foreign lifestyle. He chose to go into the future instead of being stuck in the past.

I didn't watch the first season of this show. So, I don't know the dynamics of their relationship in its early stages. But what I'm seeing here is Kobe's friends, who are used to subservient Cameroonian women, call Emily "bossy". They want Emily to be for Kobe what their Cameroonian women are for them. They are clearly trying to sabotage his marriage to her. They may end up being successful. Emily will then have full custody of their children and Kobe will have to pay her monthly child support.
Why did Kobe propose to Emily if she treated him so poorly? Was it simply because his ultimate goal was to get a Green Card, then a US citizenship? I am guessing that it was for that reason.

As a black American married to an African man I understand that a lot of them (not all) have a certain perception about American women in general. I think that they used the wrong words by saying white women because even when I was coming into my husband's family they considered me white just because I was foreign but I also think that Emily should try to meet in the middle with Kobe because we all know she is bossy in general, no matter the country she is in.

Emily is a spoiled, narcissistic, brat. Living off her parents and popping out more kids so her dad can't retire and kobe can't make enough to support a big family and get a place of their own.
