Cancelled my TV licence over 10 years ago and it’s unquestionably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Cancel yours today, you’ll definitely never regret it.
DID SAME ...IT WAS A LOAS OF CRAP ..
Mine was over 5 years ago, as I was slow to the party. Stuff the BBC, it's not fit for purpose and just a propaganda wing of the government!
No money for Gary
@@jimbodimbo981 He’s the worlds most successful crisp salesman, so he definitely won’t starve. 🥔
Yes got rid of mine since I can’t even remember 😂
The law should never prosecute anyone for not paying for something they don't want
Literally being prosecuted for not wanting a TV subscription. What a joke. Might as well put people in prison for not eating cornflakes or for not smoking cigarettes. Ludicrous
@@bobbyrayofthefamilysmith24fear mongering, the game of communism!
@@bobbyrayofthefamilysmith24 ooh that's a good shout. forcing me to smoke under pain of prosecution. I bet if it was illegal not to smoke they would have to supply them on prescription? I might ask my MP to suggest that. He's toast come election day anyway. (A Tory that took the seat of one of the only decent Labour MP's in 2019) So he might as well cause some trouble in the mean time. lol
Well they weren't were they, they were prosecuted for watching live broadcast TV or using bbc iplayer while not having a valid licence.
To be clear I am against the TV licence but if someone does not want to pay it then stick to the rules its that simple.
Most of these convictions are under the "Single Justice Service". The government's own web site says that, "A single magistrate, supported by a legal adviser, can decide adult, summary-only, non-imprisonable and victimless offences. They can do this when the defendant has pleaded guilty or has not responded to notification that they’re being prosecuted."
This is what enables magistrates to process such a high number of cases. Each one may take only 5 minutes without him ever leaving his armchair at home. The last sentence is key - "when the defendant has pleaded guilty or has not responded to notification that they’re being prosecuted".
The Black Belt Barrister has posted a number of videos where he has pointed out that, if one does not respond to a prosecution notice, one will be found guilty. Sadly, therefore, the high conviction rate will have much to do with the inaction of those being prosecuted.
F the woke BBC!
The licence fee is an absolute scandal
I learnt about this well over 10 years ago after watching Russell Burton here on CZcams, he set the record straight for me, people need to wake up and stop paying their TV licence and the BBC should be banished, it's well past it's sell by date.
like the post office
For those of us who live outside London and the Home Counties, the BBC has been past its sell-by date for a century.
But - like the Post Office scandal, it's the justice system itself that should be most ashamed.
You only have to sit in the average magistrate's court for an hour (which I have twice in recent years, as a witness) to wonder if the entire pompous system - administered by people to whom strife means no ice for their gin - is long past its sell-by date.
The MP could get scrap the the TV licence for BBC tomorrow if they want to they is no need waiting and till 2027
Had a Court summons many many years ago. when I attended court it was an actual Hearing with a right jumped up Barrister acting on the BBC behalf, he actual said he was going to prove that I had watch tv. My fault should never of let the goon into the house, but needless to say this was way before the internet so I really didn't have a clue. To top it off there wasn't even a plug on the tv lol! In the end I did mange to get it thrown out of court with 'case not proven'. I dont have a licence today and God help them if they attempt that s**** again.
It is a much different system now.

It's not a Licence it's a Tax.
It's a subscription. I don't subscribe, so I pay nothing.
A Tax pays for funding of amenities or whatever else A Licence is not a tax its a one off Payment ie'Driving Licence; fishing Licence, Public performance Licence. So for example if you pass your Driving test its not the law that you should obtain a licence. If you don't have it you won't get fined or face Prosection. A So called TV licence is a tax to pay the BBC for funding there Extortionate Service on people who don't want to pay it.
If the government decriminalises non payment of the tv licence the BBC would end tomorrow. What does that tell you ?
They will never do it or lose their BBC propaganda arm
@@user-hx3ko7vj4y With the likes of Gary Lineker spouting his anti-Government propaganda I reckon they'd be glad to be rid of the BBC.
That they are a crap corrupt business?
It tells me that the bbc and the government are both corrupt
I notified the licence agency that I do not need one, they responded by saying that they may still send an agent round to check if it was true and that my notification of not needing one only lasts a certain amount of time (which was not written anywhere on the letter). If I tell someone NO then that is the end of it, my rejection does not have a shelf life! It all came across as a scare tactic, which no other company would ever get away with. If I don’t like cornflakes and don’t buy them, Kellogs don’t send an enforcement officer round to make sure I’m not eating cornflakes unlawfully.
Exactly it's the biggest joke ever, it's even worse than your kelogs analogy since they deliberately make their service available on every single device whether you want it or not. It's like a window cleaner cleaning your windows despite you asking him not to then demanding payment.
I cancelled just over two years ago. So have just started to get letters from them, or rather the 'Legal Occupier' has got letters. There is no way on Earth I am contacting them every two years.
@@timg1246 12 years for me. No contact is the best way. Don't reply. Don't answer the door and if you do by accident just say bye bye and close it. Nothing they can do
Don't put ideas into their heads FFS 😂
I decided not to redeclare no licence needed after my first one expired after 2 years. During that 2 years, I still received letters but my main reason for not redeclaring was that I didn't see why any company I wished to have no dealings with should know who I am and where I live, let alone a disreputable company such as Capita.

"To help people stay licenced"
As a nation, we could end the BBC licence fee tomorrow if we coordinated against them. There is no divine right for the BBC to exist.

No they’re not.
Magistrates are given the paperwork to sign (and it’s a lot) and because no-one is there to appear in front of them, it’s done in a back room. There’s a fine, plus the cost of a licence.
The only time you need to appear is if the *_fine_* is not paid - they don’t care if you don’t buy a licence.
Magistrates are as unhappy about having to do this as we are at them doing it.
My late father was a magistrate.
@@enkisdaughter4795 I don't think appearances in court are the issue here. The fact remains that if you do not plead not guilty, or do not plead at all, the "Single Justice Service" will only take a few minutes to find you guilty.
I recently cancelled my license and came across this nonsense. Even the cancellation on the website misleads you by saying if you want 'any tv programmes'. This is incorrect and should be corrected to 'any live broadcast tv programmes'. They are con merchants.
We have just had all of Westminster pretending to be outraged by the private prosecutions brought by PO scumbags
And yet they will not do anything to stop the BBC scumbags taking out private prosecutions. I suppose if it's in their interests years from now, they'll be outraged again.
It's deliberately misleading they claim you need one to have any device such as games consoles, DVD players(how can you watch live TV on a DVD player??) mobile phones PC etc. They want it to be unclear so many will air on the side of caution just pay it.
Designed to make you question if you are legal.... just cancel your direct debit and never talk to the BBC again....
The online cancellation site is deliberately misleading. Whichever way you complete the it, you *will* need a licence.
I ended up phoning them and the woman told me I needed a licence to watch the BBC - not live TV.
I told her she didn’t need to worry as the BBC hasn’t put out anything worth watching for decades.
She wasn’t a happy bunny.
I never had a TV Licence!
19 years since I gave them a bean.
When they knock on my door I dont even open it.
I had one of the goones at my door last week took great pleasure in saying no thanks and closed the door
Don’t have one don’t want one and certainly don’t need one!
Just got a letter from the BBC telling me I need a licence. I'm under investigation and someone may call on my home. I can give them a call and tell them I don't need a TV licence but someone may still call to investigate. I don't have a TV wouldn't have one in my house, don't have TV aerial don't want their signals going in my house
They are prosecuting people through a fast track behind a closed door courts
Same as non payment of council tax. Both criminal activities. Imo.
I cancelled mine two weeks ago and got a refund with in a few days and I feel liberated! ❤
About 40 years ago I was taken to court . The magistrates looked at my bundle of paperwork showing DD had been paid for years . I claimed it was an oversight, they agreed and case dismissed! Oh and now I haven’t had one for the last 3 years!😱😝
Nice one!
The Horizon scandal, which saw about 900 sub-postmasters wrongly convicted, has been described as the 'worst miscarriage of justice in British history'. With 44,000 convictions in one year alone (2021 - 2022) for tv licence offences (many without the defendant even being present) I find myself asking 'is it really?'
I doubt it actually comes anywhere close to being the worst.
I user to appear in court on behalf of my employer, a local council. That didn't last long - I was replaced. My offence? I told the truth - the 'evidence' used against (by policy) the most vulnerable people was too often just nonsense paperwork, routinely rubber stamped by a local court.
I once looked over the shoulder of a clerk (her title was exalted, but that's all she was) to see a template letter (carefully dated a fortnight before it was even composed) telling a complaining ratepayer that they were entirely alone in their concerns. I asked how many identical letters she'd sent that day? Oh - about 200 !
Being fined for breaking the law is hardly a scandal . It's as fair as can be .
Don't pay the licence fee and don't give a tinkers dam about the BBc
I'm sick of telling my niece to cancel it she got conned by one of those sales man at her door I've told her I've never payed and never will do don't care if go to court I still won't pay it
The same as the POST OFFICE scandal?
Watch a BBC drama
This is TYPICALLY BRITISH
If they are incentivised to prosecute, they should face the same investigation the Post Office is going through.
I work for Capita myself and I find the whole TV licensing thing a farce, I also never pay for a license either. People really need to stop being scared of them.

Yes, it’s probably better to keep the system they’ve got now than introduce some other method of extracting a ‘subscription’ from every adult in the country. I’m sure that whatever new scheme they cook up to replace the license will be worse, it always is.

Lucy, is just another puppet.
That’s like ATOS years ago. I had to go for a medical to do with my benefits after I’d come off them to work full time way back in 2003.
I’ve been on benefits since 1992 due to disabilities, and I took a Permitted Work job where I did 15 hours a week. I was offered full time work from it and because I didn’t want to be on benefits for the rest of my life, I weighed up the pros and cons and was told by the DWP, that if I fell ill within the first 12 weeks of work, I would go back on my benefits at the original rate and I wouldn’t need to go for a medical.
After 6 weeks of working 60 hour weeks (I should only have been doing 40 hours, but people who didn’t turn up for their shifts would have to be covered by whoever was on before them [me]), I ended up in hospital and I couldn’t walk; the DWP sent me a letter to state I was unfit for work and I must resign, and go back on my benefit at the full normal rate.
3 months down the line, I’m sent for a medical !
At this, I couldn’t understand half of what the doctor was saying due to his really thick foreign accent; I was asked how far I could walk without pain - 0, in constant pain but had to put a number, so I said 2 meters. After I’d read over the paperwork, I signed it and went back to resting at home. I then got a letter stating that I was ‘FIT FOR WORK’ and my benefits were all stopped !
I contested this decision and got a transcript of the paperwork.
There were discrepancies on it - it now stated I could walk 200 meters, that I carried a ‘small suitcase’ - it was a satchel bag with a p/b book and ALL my medication in it, and the doc moaned that I ‘didn’t use the stairs to access the examination bench’ - that’s because I’m 6ft 5ins and it was at just the right height for me to sit on - why use something that’s going to cause me more pain when I didn’t need to ?!
I also found out that ATOS were offering their doctors an extra £50 for every person they signed ‘FIT FOR WORK’ !
I took it to a tribunal and when they saw the DWP letter stating I had to resign, my full benefits were reinstated !
The problem was, I’d been expected to live without ANY money for months ! I ended up being told by DWP that I would have to sign on ‘as fit for work’ even though I wasn’t just so I had money to pay bills, and my best pal would lend me money and buy groceries for me. He only asked for £500 back. I was wracked with anxiety which didn’t help my other conditions and made me worse.
Now, 20 years on, I’ve gotten worse and there’s talk that this government wants to get ‘longterm sick people back to work’ which is just going to backfire !
I'm considered disabled although there are no outward signs of my disability and I have a very well documented problem going back almost 40 years which has got steadily worse. I'm now at a point where a couple of minutes of anything physical leaves me in agony and I'm on Morphine for the pain but I've filled out the DWP form and I know they're gonna send me for an interview. That's fine, I understand that and have no problems going but I have no doubt they'll say fit for work and I'll appeal based on my doctor's evidence. I'd also like to say that I've paid tax and NI for almost 40 years so I'm not a scrounger or similar and only went onto benefits when my business failed because of the government lockdown and NO, I didn't get a penny from them. I know lots of self employed people who claimed the govt money and still worked, that's a benefit cheat!!
probably concerned about not enough folk being prosecuted
I've said it many times, the government should be running an awareness campaign in making sure people understand exactly what a license is needed. Shocking that this isn't.
It's not needed. There you go...

So looking at what's been said here even if you don't talk to them and close the door, they can still possibly take you to court behind closed doors based on fabricated evidence by them only and that's it your done and convicted.
Only if you sign something. They have been accused of, essentially, filling in a 'confession' above your signature after you signed it. Then they claim that is how it was when you signed it. Personally, given their other, obviously vindictive, behaviour, I find the allegations believable. Recently they prosecuted someone with Downs Syndrome. Try telling me that was an 'error'. Nasty people working for TWO nasty companies, the BBC and Capita.
Never let them on, never sign anything.
That’s why they should be called Poor Courts and not Magistrates Courts. Rubber stamp everything and then get BBC to report on how unjust other countries’ courts are. This country is nothing but an open prison Stasi state and there’s no chance of changing it by voting.
Let them. Ignore that as well.
@@user-wc2xf3fj6l Trouble with ignoring the court's judgement is that the bailiffs are then given the job to retrieve the £1000 fine.
The bailiffs are allowed to gain entry to your house and remove any goods that come to the sum of money owed to the BBC fine if you are not willing to pay the fine to the bailiff company when they arrive at your house, and you also then have to pay a ridiculous payment to the bailiff company that is asked on behalf of the court's judgement.
So it all conveniently works in the favour of the BBC all win win case.
They have no powers
Take a look at the post office, the draconian attitude will be your demise. Love the content and love that you speak for the people. If you're humble, you're bigger than you think. Thank you.
The question never brought up n answered is why the bbc is allowed a monopoly, no other company is allowed a monopoly in the U.K.
Why does the Nation not get together and all cancell their TV LICENCE. This is the only way to put a stop to this. What will they do.,put the Nation in Jail? Please think about it, lets have somebody start this up please. It has become a big issue now for the Nation. Gouverment is a fool for not getting this sorted now.
It's the government's propaganda arm, why would they stop it?
Perhaps the MPs should ask the BBC to explain exactly where all this money goes.
Most of it goes on over the top salaries and pension pots you wouldn’t believe.
MPs can’t say anything, because they do exactly the same thing.
They have a book called The Bible, which lists every single thing they can claim for.
As soon as they turn up for the new parliamentary session, they’re given this book.
They’re advised to claim for every single thing possible *and* to go for the higher cost items.
The post office are going to be stopped from making private prosecutions. Why not TV licensing?
When they knock at the door you say who are you and what do you want. They say im TV licence and you say NOT INTERESTED close the door and thats it
It amazes me every mp we have had slaps their jaws and blerts out what we like to hear but are actionless. But laws like the covid law sorted over night to name one. Put a tv documentary on about post masters and action is taken. Not until we vote differently get new blood in their will it ever change 😊
Voting won't make a change any more as they are fudging the numbers - we need a full out revolution for a change in this Country now, and I don't think the general population are ready yet so this will still carry on for years and get worse.
No point getting Labour in as they are just as Left and Woke as the BBC and will shunt the taxpayers for every penny.
Surely one can appeal the conviction then file a lawsuit for wrongful and malicious prosecution against TV licensing!
Maybe you could but who has £1600 a day for a barrister (this is what I paid over 5 years ago). People are scared to go to court or even respond to the initial summons, they have no hope of appealing and this is due to ignorance of the proceedings as a whole.

You are doing a great service, sir. You are the TV equivalent of Mr Bates!
What happens if you don't talk to the goon on the door but he lies and writes on his chipboard that he's seen you watching live tv? If your court case is held behind closed doors how can you defend yourself against that happening?
@@tvguy61 Yeah, maybe. Well if that's the case it's crazy how many people have been talked into signing something on their doorstep. Madness!
@@tvguy61 I won't even be talking to them let alone signing anything. I just wondered if you sent a goon away without saying a word, well apart from no thanks, if they could falsely claim that they'd seen you watching live TV when in fact it was a complete lie.
@@tvguy61 Thanks for your replies. I'm looking forward to politely telling them to **** Off! 😃👍
You will be told of the prosecution and have a chance to respond, or even turn up if you want, it's when there is no response to a summons that the case is held without you and you are automatically guilty. The number of people actually attending a summons is indicated in the figures Jon quotes because there are more summons than guilty prosecutions, hiding your head in the sand doesn't make these things go away as most people would like to think.
The BBC are starting to look a lot like the POST OFFICE hay mate.
Not like you to lose your temper more than once every five minutes, Jon!
Well said, Jon!
If people didn't open their doors in the first place, how could anyone present evidence to a court of law I'm the first place.!!!
The most entertaining thing on my TV is CZcams.... it's got all the variety you need: violence, news, sex, drugs and rock & roll, humour, international affairs, politics, wildlife, nature and last, but not least: ChilliJonCarne....
A TV licence is NOT needed!!
Hi Chilli Jon, if the BBC cannot detect if you are watching live broadcast TV, how do they know that over 20 years ago 30.15 million people viewed BBC1 Eastenders (Angie & Den divorce papers) and last week 9 people viewed BBC2 International Crown Green Bowling?
It used to be based on AVERAGE viewing figures and BARB had a number of homes, about 5000ish I think, with a set top box designed to capture what they watched. They then extrapolate the data based on this representative sample with an error margin of about 2% they reckon.. Check out a company called BARB👍👍
They don't know which 30 or 9 million . Don't they ask a few thousands , or put a box on their TV , then extrepolate the figures?
@@normanpearson8753 Yes, maybe all TVs sold in the UK should have a monitoring device as standard, this could be linked to the Horizon IT Fujitsu system. It is now 2024 and BBC enforcement officers (THUGS) spying through bedroom windows is outdated.
Lucy Frazer was my MP in South Cambs, I had to contact her on a few matters. As useful as an ashtray on a motorbike!
Well the mafia did a better job scaring people.
The BBC licence fee is an absolute scam, it’s akin to the DVLA prosecuting non-drivers and pedestrians for not having road tax (VED).
And with all the repeats they show, you should be legally entitled to photocopy the previous years license. 🤷♂️
I`m nor sure if im still under investigation. I guess l must be with all these letters to " the occupier" 🤣
'under investigation' just means....another letter full of gibberish....
Moved into a house three years ago. Instantly went on website declared I don’t need a license cause I don’t watch normal TV. Have had one email since asking if I still don’t need a license and that’s it. Never had anyone come round asking questions or nothing so no idea how people are getting TV license people randomly knocking on their door
I’ve made this point on here before Jon. Talk TV are very good at saying the licence should be banned , they then have such ignorant debates about it they do more harm than good. You need to be their go to expert on this lad!
The threat of defunding is a potent corrective to keep the biggest media outlet in line, for the benefit of the largest care-home in the country.
Anyone who pays for a TV licence is complicit
Guilty of this until 4 years ago! Now redeemed myself!
NEVER cancel your license with the BBC. Simply don't pay for one. Then wait patiently for a goon to knock the door. Open door, film them, say nothing, wait for them to either slip up or leave. Publish video to CZcams.
In 2005 I bought a TV from Curry’s. They asked for name and address telling me it was for the warranty. 1 week later I got a letter from TV Licensing saying that I couldn’t watch tv without a license. Can curry’s be sued for sharing my data
In 2005 it was _law_ that retailers had to pass a buyer's address to TVL. That law was ended in 2013.
happened to me too with Tesco, but using my clubcard member details.. was fuming...
thinking about it, that TV never was connected to an antenna, wasn't one in that bedroom.
OFCOM complaint about disinformation by Talk tv
I stopped my TV licence over a year ago when my television broke down, and i didn't replace the TV i am no longer a television owner.
Black belt barrister looked into this and you DO NOT need a License, apart from when watching LIVE BBC broadcasting…which amounts to about 3 F.A. Cup games…
How they trap you is in their questions.
‘Are you the legal occupant of this property’ if you say yes…you enter into a verbal agreement!
What annoys me is they involve the POLICE who are an emergency service! The TV van is a lie…a policeman told me that years ago.
Ignore them and just shut your door. Do not say one word to them…
This is not true.
You need a licence if you watch any TV broadcast as its being shown or use bbc iplayer to watch bbc shows
@@ChilliJonCarne which includes things like gbeebies live broadcasts on CZcams.
@@ChilliJonCarneI'm sure you have tv license officials who are subscribed to our channels.
I'm sure we can get some insider information on their dirty tactics and how to tell them to f*uk off.
My view is if you have a TV/tablet/mobile phone in your home you are guilty!
This annoys me so much because they would state if you don't watch TV then why do you have it in your home?
Then you will have to provide evidence of your innocence without any work from them, we know the judge in charge works for them so we are screwed!
Sorry about my language but I'm really ticked off about this.
❤ your channel BTW 🙏
youre doing good work! keep up the good fight
Thank you Jon 👏👏👏👏
