  • Reverse Pendulum Table Tennis Serve - eBaTT | Tutorial #31
    eBaTT Tutorial focusing on the reverse pendulum serve:
    One of the hardest, possibly the toughest serve to perfect in table tennis is the reverse pendulum serve.
    In today's tutorial, we are providing 3 tips to help you develop this service and implement it inside your game.
    Three main spins - sidespin topspin, sidespin, and sidespin backspin
    Focus on your grip, try to find what works for you but note that loosening your grip and where your index finger is placed can help you execute this serve.
    Tip 1: The movement
    Introduce an exercise serving over the table which helps with the mechanics of the stroke when implementing it as a serve. Try to impart all three spins; sidespin, backspin, topspin using this exercise. Check the angles of movement 45 degrees and 90 degrees
    Tip 2: Bat/racket position
    This depends on your flexibility and personal preference. you can prepare the blade above or below your forehand/wrist. Then look at the contact point (ball and rubber). look carefully where the ball shot hit for each different spin.
    Tip 3: the importance of the serve
    The reverse pendulum has great value in completely changing the movement in flight from the same position as another serve (traditional pendulum). This change of curve and spin can completely change the game in your favour.
    You can cock your wrist in more when executing the reverse serve due to hand mechanics and the way your wrist is built.

    I struggle with the placement at my backspin/sidespin variation. I only can do this diagonal or to the elbow at max.... what should i change to place the ball although parallel. Is it the hip movement or what?

  • @stephenphoenix-roberts9447

    I naturally do side and back using this serve. It defo the hardest. I find the finger placement on back height up help for feel and control. Under wrist for back spin feel so unnatural to get ur bat to normal position.

    Thank you Eli - fantastic video!!! 👍👍👍.
    I was really amazed how the more extreme pendulum grip allowed me to get more spin and keep the ball short for the normal pendulum serve - really surprising.
    But I really struggle to transition into shakehand for the return ball. Would love your ideas on how to do this fast and safely without dropping the bat.

  • @cosmeticcarrepair

    Technique beautifully explained by you Eli. After the technique is learned, the only way to master this serve is repetition, 100s of multiballs to train your muscles to co-ordinate in this un-natural movement. This is why I've never managed to master this serve as I don't have the time it takes.

  • @conradfisher2376
    @conradfisher2376 Před 4 lety

    I've resisted trying to learn the reverse pendulum serve, rationalizing it by thinking "I can have enough variation using the pendulum and a few other serves" But what blew that argument away was seeing you serve a series of pendulum and reverse pendulum and noting how deceptively similar they can appear while being so diametrically different in spin and direction. I need to get busy on this when the shutdown gets lifted! Thanks coach!

    • @leafsmithleafsmith691
      @leafsmithleafsmith691 Před 2 měsíci

      Totally agree!. I have been practicing pendulum serve and it’s noticeable that many tutorials do not emphasise the high elbow position in fact some advice low elbow close to body.
      It’s only when you consider trying to do pendulum and revers pendulum with a high elbow position that you can develop a similar motion to perform both .
      The Penny drops!. Great video ,thanks for illustrating this so well.

    This is the hardest serve! I'm still learning it, but to get it working I had to film myself, and then compare what I was doing to another tutorial video. I found, similar to the backhand flick, that contact point is very important because it's a fast but tight swing, so the end of the racket is moving much faster than near the handle.

    • @animaysh
      @animaysh Před 4 lety +1

      I'm at the exacct same point. Trying to film myself and get it right. I'm finding it super difficult to get the full backswing and follow through connecting to the ball so that the ball hits the first bounce correctly. A lot going straight into the net or not getting enough contact to get the ball over the net.

    • @animaysh
      @animaysh Před 4 lety

      There's also so many different ways to do it. I see the eBaTT way is wristy without elbow. More Timo, less FZD.

      I'm a little bit confused now. I watched both videos and especially had a look for the contact point.
      At nearby 6.00 the two guys told, that the contact point should be at the front of the bat, you tell us the contact point for a backspin serve should be at the end of the racket. What is right?
