Rashid Khan Saheb belongs to the Rampur - Sahaswan Gharana of music (Northern Uttar Pradesh) and honed is craft under the tutelage of his maternal granduncle Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan & his paternal uncle Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan.
He has noted some of his most important musical influences as being Ustad Amir Khan & Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, both of which are fondly remembered for their beautifully crafted alaap's and vilambit khayals.
Ustad Rashid Khan is one of India's most important custodian's of the ancient classical arts. He continues to soulfully combine technical dexterity and dignity from concert to concert - a true master.
Performing here with a wonderful group of artists at the Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh (Varanasi), Northern India.

Rashid has mastered Vilambit, cannot be done any better.
Arguably the best Malkauns rendition available on YT. The only one that compares to this is Ustad Amir Khan's Vilambit. this: czcams.com/video/xPxcZndx5mM/video.html
But as far as the overall presentation goes both Amir Khan and Rashid are on the same level for me.

Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty ji has rendered Raag Malkauns very deep and sombre in a near about 54 minutes recording you can find. No way to compare stalwarts, but I personally connect to that rendition more. Pranam. Regards.
