I'm gay. I play Warhammer 40k. I have never once felt unsafe or unwelcome in the community. These people are a joke.

That's simply because we don't care. I'm more concerned about someone using dirty tricks to win a battle than what they stick where. Bearing in mind that I'm 50 and and started with the hobby 35 years ago I've never seen a group that rejected someone for who they were, only their behaviour towards others. As so many of us also happen to have the social graces of a bull in a china shop it's not exactly something we can hide.
Back when warhammer was all metal, I put metal pins and spike all over my space orks, that was actually quite unsafe and I bled many times picking them up.
And my guess is that a good chunk of your hobby group doesn't know and the rest doesn't care. And how would they? Are you rolling the dice homosexually?
Not trying to be facetious, it's just hard to fathom how your private life would impact the game you play in any way. But yeah, then there are the activist caricatures whose sexuality is their whole personality.
@@Dawamesk420 The thing is there are honestly bad elements on both sides of this, and while the left tries to overstate the existence of those nasty elements, some more right-wing zealots downplay it big time. The hobby isn't just about rolling dice. As with any social activity, going at it long enough, you will see conversations about daily life arise. That's how bonding and friendships in a common activity arise. Sure you're not rolling dice "homosexually", but when having a drink and a rest in the middle of a 3 to 4 hour battle and the conversation turns to the wife and kids turning your office full of minis into a new bedroom for the next youngling, a gay person can just go and have a small joke about how that's not an issue for them. Most of the time it will go well. But there is an uncomfortable amount of occurrences where that can entirely shift the mood, if not outright become hostile. I worked in a Hobby store, and I wouldn't say it's daily whatsoever, but I've had to intervene to preserve some customers from hateful people, and ban them from the store. And would you guess it, banning such a person all of a sudden turns the store into a "woke mess". No, we just don't care for our quiet agreeable customers being attacked on personal matters because of a bigot. We'd be just as quick to ban those that came in screaming "fascists" at the top of their lungs. But those crazies tend to actually not play the game, and stick to internet pathos.
EDIT: there is also the effect of human bias towards bad experiences being more memorable. While most of the community is accepting, or even better, doesn't care all that much, 1 or 2 bad interactions can ruin the enjoyment you have for something. That goes from social interaction, as mentioned above, to generally having a cheater that always gets a pass for instance. People will discuss the bad disproportionately, and that's not a political effect, just a human bias effect. If the person in charge doesn't act swiftly to redress that genuine bad interaction, it can ruin a place("they let bigots/cheaters/what have you run amok"). There is no smoke without fire, now whether or not that smoke is proportional to the fire or way overblown is another matter. But it's the store/company's job to deal with that, display a swift action, and showcase the good of their activity (without being completely bonkers, over-correcting while wholly useless and pandering like GW).

I came across a channel called inquisitor yun, its made by a diversity pusher, he had some lore videos, literally everything he said in them was wrong, all of the lore ge was spewing sounded like he was just making up what he wanted it to be. So i rudiculed him and told him he was being gatekept while correcting his false lore claims. He cried racism a couple times thinking i would care. Most, if not all the people who worked there in the 90's and 2000's have also left. Many people who worked there probably cared a whole lot. They're just not there anymore. Agreed, I think in situations like the Warhammer ordeal. People often forget that sometimes the lack of diversity is, in fact, diversity. If you simply look at the scale of how media is over representing groups of people, or the experiences of every individual person. For most of us, we don't experience 2 gay people a day, a trans person a day, or any specific race a day. When I take trips up to Hmart by my house (which is predominantly inhabited by latin and asian americans), if a DEI chip was installed in my brain. I'd see every race on the spectrum like a damn acid trip.

(Which is the tragic sacrifice of space marines but that's a meaningful aside.) Space Marines stand out and get the attention, or some Xenos does. (Necrons were mine. Oldcrons, not space tomb kings.) but it's the regular human beings fighting the good fight that sticks with you.

@@Nempo13 Don't get me wrong. I like the guard and especially some of the more unique Regiments (Catachan, Krieg, Mordian Iron Guard).
However, what I especially like about the Space Marines are simply the ritualistic nature of their pattle preperations, battle doctrine and so on.
And I also like the concept of the Imperium as a whole: A regressive, xenophobic, totalitarian regime that has only one thing en mass and is not afraid to use said resource: People.

Some of these studies are the bases for other studies. Professions in real sciences that doesn't have this massive glaring issue have called into question if the whole "science" of psychology and sociology should be done away with and place back as pseudoscience since most of their studies and conclusions from those studies have been found as fraudulent or completely mishandled.

I hate how they use the word "safe". Not long ago the word safe refered to being safe from some kind of physical harm.
