Quick tip for watching The Witch: watch it with subtitles on. I really think it helps when it comes to absorbing that challenging Old English dialogue.

The movie doesn't have 'twists' exactly, but the way it is written keeps you guessing constantly. No jump-scares, convincing acting and a focus on a dark, foreboding atmosphere rather than the grotesque and bloody. This is another of those films I would label as a psychological thriller, as the supernatural horrors are kept almost completely out of view as we witness the downfall of a family who are all affected, turning on each other as their faith is truly tested.
    Great Review Jason.

Yeah I am about 2 years late on this one I am doing a Sinister Reviews marathon today lol. Anyway just wanted to say I thought this movie was boring the first time around then realized it was because I had no idea what anyone was saying. Watched it again with subtitles and now I love it. Also gotta give Robert Eggers mad props on the research and work that went into making this realistic!

Personally I love this film!, probably my favourite modern horror movie for years and years.
I went into it knowing what to expect months later after release so I knew it wouldn't be a typical horror movie, I love slow burn horror movies that make you think and this really hit that for me.
I didn't know whether I would love it or not because people went on and on about how "amazing" It Follows was and although I thought it was good I didn't think it was as spectacular as most people do, so with this film I was skeptical that the hype wasn't as warrented much like It Follows but I didn't have to worry, it was great.

The tense realistic atmosphere of this film was great it kinda remind me of the passion of Christ with the use of language & especially the ugly baby scene

i love a good slow burn movie it gives you a chance to really SEE whats been put into the movie, it's not flying by in a flash, if there's time to look around there's usually something worth seeing.
the bf would survive/thrive in the wilderness, i went out for the day and came back to a new dining table he'd built from scratch, there he was doing his Al Borland impression and the time before- he'd put in an attic hatch, insulated and boarded the place out. last summer i woke up to him replacing a flat roof and the guttering! it's a good thing i can plaster a ceiling and walls or I'd be of no use to his home improvement plans lol.

I have to watch this again...Kat and I were riveted the whole time, but at the end, we just had a “whaaaa?” reaction 😜 I never went back to put it all together. Maybe your review will shed some light (only 2:46 into your review) 😝
    Dave and Chainsaw ❤️❤️❤️

I guess my question is, was she tagged as a witch from the beginning or did she choose??? I guess it wasn’t as huh as I thought.

I recommended this movie on Killer Flicks a few days ago and got ripped apart for it. People only want to see gore and mindless movies now. More intelligent films get labelled as boring. It's a shame. Anyway apparently there was some fungus growing on some of the crops and it was implied that it was making the family hallucinate. I need to rewatch it again. Overall great movie and great review good job bro.

Trailers and hype ruined it for me, I even waited until it was on DVD to counteract it happening but it wasn't enough. Favorite part was Black Phillip getting "horny" with the dad. I turned in the subtitles once the dad started talking alot, everyone else was easy enough to understand but it sounded like he had swallowed an apple too.

It's not even that the language is all that difficult to understand, it's really just the actor who plays the father in particular; he's got a very guttural voice and a strong Yorkshire accent.

I love this movie also...enjoyed your perspective and glad you “get” this kind of film. A lot of my friends didn’t like it because of the slower pace....not sure what they were expecting. Did you like Lords Of Salem?

  • @mayamelina6
    @mayamelina6 Před 4 lety

I know this is one of your old videos, but had to say I totally agree. It was marketed completely wrong, but I think that’s because they try to grab the attention of the general population with trailers. Most people will say boring because it’s not your typical horror. I thought it was an awesome film. But I enjoy slow burns, eerie stuff, and just the out of the norm. I don’t think I’ve seen that you’ve done a review of “I am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the House” on Netflix? I’d like to hear your thoughts. I personally loved it, but seems the majority think it’s boring as hell. Oh and my boyfriend at the time this came out was Ukrainian, okay English, and the poor guy couldn’t understand a damn thing they were saying. 😂

I love this movie. I found it scary and creepy. In my opinion the reason people don't like these type movies is because they don't have the imagination to put themselves in the time and world this takes place. Belief in witches was very so there was witch hysteria. Great review for a great movie.

I love this movie. Like you said most people seem to think its totally boring but i really got invested in the slow burn nature of the movie. It really suprised me at how interesting & well done this movie was. This should really be watched by a lot of the folk who maybe couldnt be bothered when it 1st came out cos theyd heard it was too slow & boring. Also Black Philip is awesome as shit hahaha, hes such a bad ass. Great stuff 👍

Love this movie! I just rewatched it the other week as well. I think after the old witch was in the locked barn with the three kids drinking the goats milk is when she went after the twins I suppose. but ya I didn’t see there bodies either just the other goats and the beginning with the baby and that same witch reminds me of Julian sands in warlock drinking the flesh of the unbaptized kid so he then to could fly.

Before the movie came out I was wondering if there was a witch at all. I thought it might be about the hysteria of that time. Then the first ten minutes featured a woman floating on a broom. Well Ok then

I remember commenting on another review you were complaining about Rude People and there was a guy who as soon as the Credits rolled YELLED and I mean YELLED That Movie Fucking Sucked and I was like ok, Asshole LOL!

It's a well made movie but it just didn't click with me...the atmosphere was great...the acting was great...the end was awesome...but it felt a little drawn out for me...a bout the babadook: I went in blind and still hated it lol
